Christie asks people to be patient while he makes up a new story.

TRENTON (The Borowitz Report)—Responding to fresh charges that he knew about the controversial lane closures on the George Washington Bridge last fall, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie today asked for the public’s patience while he makes up a new story.
“Today you have heard some allegations that are shocking and explosive,” he told reporters at a hastily called press conference. “All I ask is that the people of the great state of New Jersey give me sufficient time to invent a new story that explains my way out of this.”

Sandra Fluke considering running for Congress

Hours after Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) announced on Thursday that he was retiring after four decades on the Hill, Sandra Fluke announced that she is “strongly considering” a run for his seat.

Fluke, 32, made headlines in 2012 when she was denied the opportunity to testify in Congress on Obamacare’s contraception requirements while she was a law student at Georgetown University. Her story gained instant fame when conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute.” Since then, she has become an advocate for women’s health issues and was invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

Chris Christie is sinking fast.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is sinking fast. Yet another national poll finds that his 2016 hopes are fading, as he falls from first to third place among likely GOP presidential contenders in the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll, and 20 points behind Hillary Clinton. Like earlier polls, this one finds that Christie is losing his best attribute for 2016: his wide appeal with Democrats and independents

Climate Deniers are going to court for defamation against Climate Scientists.

Finally, the courts get to hear a case where climate scientists are being defamed with little or no cause other than the Koch Brothers and their ilk will pay people to spew lies and distortions so they can make 100 Billion as with Keystone.

Accusing a scientist of conducting his research fraudulently, manipulating his data to achieve a predetermined or political outcome, or purposefully distorting the scientific truth are factual allegations. They go to the heart of scientific integrity. They can be proven true or false. If false, they are defamatory. If made with actual malice, they are actionable.

The daughters of Wendy Davis are done with the idiotic comments about their wonderful mom.

My name is Dru Davis and I am Wendy Davis's daughter. I hate that I feel the need to write this, but I have been reading and hearing so many untrue things about my mom and I want to set the record straight. And sadly I feel the need to be crystal clear on the malicious and false charge of abandonment as nothing could be further from the truth.

My mom has always shared equally in the care and custody of my sister and me. My mom had my sister at 19 and although she was technically married for a short period of time, she was handling almost everything on her own. She was working 2 jobs regularly and going to school. She met my dad when Amber was still very young. They had an amazing love that I witnessed for many years. Unfortunately, it didn't last, like so many love stories don't.

An Open Letter to Gun Lovers

Seven school shootings in 24 days? I can't imagine what they were worried about.
I said this on New Year's Day: "In 2010, by comparison, there were nine school shootings in America that killed seven people. In 2011, there were eleven school shootings that killed nine people. In 2012, there were fourteen school shootings - including the massacres at Sandy Hook Elementary and Oikos University - that killed 43 people. In 2013, there were twenty-three school shootings that killed nineteen people. Nine, then eleven, then fourteen, then twenty-three. If the trend holds, we can look forward to maybe thirty or forty school shootings in 2014."
I was wrong. Seven school shootings in the first month of the year means we are on pace, if this keeps up, to have no less than 84 school shootings by the end of December.
Yes, you, who love your guns.

I am puking sick of reading every single day about how your baby, your toddler, your brother, your sister, your cousin, your niece, your nephew, blew their brains into their lap with a gun you left lying around, because freedom, or something.
I am sick of mourning the gun dead day after day, every day, because every day someone wins the Someone Gets To Be Dead Today lottery, because of you, and a whole lot of those winners are children.

Gun Violence is now inevitable - Gun Violence is happening regularly

The ‘alarming regularity’ of gun violence
Mark Glaze from Mayors Against Illegal Guns discusses the current prospects for gun safety reform this year and the fear that Americans might be becoming complacent with the violence.

Climate Change is real and impacting the arctic

Recent warming has been unprecedented in speed, scale, and cause. Last year, we reported on a study that found the rate of warming since 1900 is 50 times greater than the rate of cooling in the previous 5000 years, which threatens to destroy the stable climate that enabled civilization.
The warming is so fast that it’s easy to forget how cold it used to be just a few decades ago, which is the point of a recent Climate Central analysis and the awesome xkcd cartoon based on it (above).
We’ve known for a while that the Arctic — which is warming at twice the rate of Earth as a whole — is now warmer than it has been in at least 2000 years. As a National Center for Atmospheric Research study found in 2009:

Guns: Are you a school shooter if you take a gun to school for protection and then shoot yourself? People Shot this past week.

Nineteen people on this week's list accidentally shot themselves, and the seven child victims of GunFAIL were mostly teenagers, with the exception of a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Three people were accidentally shot while hunting, three while cleaning still-loaded weapons, and two by freedom-loving neighbors who were unsure where in the Constitution it said they had to keep their bullets to themselves.
Five cops and/or security guards were involved in GunFAIL incidents in the past week, ranging from the guy who was hired as a bouncer to keep guns out of a neighborhood party, but ended up somehow losing his gun during that party, to the BART officer accidentally shot and killed by another in the line of duty.

Guns put 20 Youth in the Hospital daily!

Did you know that in 2009, there were 7391 hospitalizations due to injuries from firearms in youth less than 20 years old? That averages to 20 a day--almost one an hour.

Investing - Corporations buy back stock instead of investing in workers or R and D.

In sum, America’s leading corporations control a huge sum of money that they’re unlikely to spend on the machinery, wage increases and new ventures that might return the nation’s economy to something resembling health. Since these companies move their profits abroad to avoid U.S. taxes, a truly satisfactory resolution to this problem probably requires a higher level of transnational governmental coordination than is plausible—though the U.S. might consider stiffening and extending its sanctions on tax havens like the Cayman Islands to more mainstream tax havens like Ireland. It should certainly raise the taxes on capital—that is, on capital gains and dividends—to levels comparable to or, better yet, higher than those on labor, since capital income is soaring while labor income isn’t going anywhere. Our governments—both the federal and the states’—should set up investment banks to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure. Minimum wage hikes and labor law reform are essential to restoring the nation’s consumer markets to a level of activity that would entice our reluctant investor corporations to actually expand production.

Koch Goals: 1. Own the Republican Party 2. Have Control over Congress by 2016 3. Own the President

What’s the Koch goal?

The Republicans have the House, likely until 2020. Soon the Kochs will have the party, which will give the House to the Kochs (they and their Koch Conference friends). They have two good shots at the Senate, 2014 and 2016. And they’ve already set up their next shot at the White House by putting Koch (and Wall Street) favorite Paul Ryan in the 2012 Veep seat next to failed candidate Romney. As Rick Perlstein says, Republicans always nominate the “next in line.” Well, Paul Ryan has a strong claim to that, and a pretty face.
So what’s the goal? If I were the Kochs, I’d aim for a takeover of all three branches by 2016. Why not? Do these men think small? Asl yourself: Would you aim lower, if you were evil, greed- and power-obsessed, richer than god, very good at “mergers and acquisitions” — and if all the power in the country were actually within your reach in the next three years?

Water for sale - Our water is being bought up and is being sold back to us for a big profit.

The droughts are making the water more and more valuable.  We have a problem folks.

Tennesee is the most violent state. High unemployment and high drop out rates are common for high crime states.

Why is Tennessee the most violent state? Well, according to 24 Wall St., who originally reported on the list of most dangerous states,
The state was among the top 10 in the country for murders and robberies and was first for aggravated assaults, with an estimated 479.6 for every 100,000 residents. Tennessee’s 41,550 violent crimes in 2012 were up 6.8% from 2011 but down 10% from 2007, when there were 46,380 violent crimes. There were 388 murders in the state in 2012, up for a second straight year. To be fair, Tennessee’s violent streak is concentrated in some of the major metropolitan areas. Memphis’s violent crime rate was the nation’s fifth worst, while Nashville’s was the 18th worst. Like many states with high violent crime, poverty in Tennessee is acute, and high school and college graduation rates are lower than most of the country.

More Americans have been shot and killed in gun violence than in ALL THE WARS THE US HAS BEEN IN!

I found this statement to be very shocking but it is TRUE!  It is now Jan 27 and we have had 5 shootings in Schools so far this year.  in 2013 there were no new gun laws to restrict the carrying of guns at the national level.  On the state level, most laws passed loosened already loose gun laws.

An Open letter to Bristol Palin - I just thought it was good and reasonable being in Alaska and all

Bristol my dear,
Who the fuck do you think you are lecturing President Obama and Wendy Davis on morals? You are a 23 year old uneducated, unwed single mother whose best vocabulary consists of words such a “awesome,” “whatnot” and “haters.” You have not experienced life in any way. Heck, I have three kids, and they have been all over the world. My oldest son is the same age as you. He has been to America twice with the family, and once on his own. He has travelled to Australia twice on his own, has been to Morocco, Portugal, Italy and France. I may have left out a few countries. He has just completed his degree (not high school).

Take Government Money and Run! Capitalist RipOffs which taxpayers pay for.

It’s bizarre that so many people cling to the myth of market marvelousness despite massive evidence of market corruption and inefficiency. People seem to think that each example of corruption or inefficiency is a bad apple who should be punished. But, of course, we don’t do that any more. The people behind these examples are being sued, not indicted. Their corporations may or may not pay up, but no one is going to jail, and no one is being punished. Every single one of the responsible people will walk away with a pocket full of dirty money, and their reputations, if they care about them, will be restored after the obligatory time away from the media spotlight.

WV Poisoning of water shows WV needs to repeal their mining laws.

This month, 300,000 West Virginians lost their water. Hundreds of people went to emergency rooms, which also did not have water. A state of emergency was declared. All because of “clean” coal.
The toxin responsible was methylcyclohexanol, used for washing coal. West Virginia mining companies assured residents that their operations are safe. The truth is just the opposite.
“It’s caused us more problems than you could ever imagine,” said Danny Jones, mayor of Charleston. “It’s a prison from which we would like to be released.”

Fundementalist Parents allowed to deny their HomeSchooled Children the right to an education.

The appropriate balance between freedom and harm can be hard to strike, particularly when it comes to religious freedom. In an attempt to find this balance, religious conservatives have been granted exemptions from a wide range of civil rights laws and social obligations. In the last two decades, one of the exemptions they have secured in many states is the right to opt out of school attendance for their children.
Led by a group called  Home School Legal Defense Association, a network of institutions and activists have sprung up to advocate the  rights of parents to educate their children—or not—as they please. Now the largest generation of home-schooled children are coming of age, and some are telling horror stories that suggest parent privilege may have gone too far.

It was not so much homeschooling that traumatized me as much as my mother’s mental illness. This was hidden by homeschooling, and the pain that damaged me came from the constant exposure to her psychiatric illness. I feel like someone roasted me over a fire, leaving me with burns to rest the remainder of my life, and I didn’t even know at the time what fire was.

Kochs and the Keystone XL Pipeline - 100 BILLION IN PROFIT FOR THE KOCHS

100 BILLION in Profits for the Kochs.
Building Keystone XL Pipeline Could Mean Roughly $100 Billion in Profits for the Koch Brothers, New Report Reveals.
The owners of Koch Industries, Charles and David Koch, will benefit should President Obama allow the Keystone XL Pipeline to be built. In recent years it has been reported that the Kochs hold up to 2 million acres in Alberta, could earn roughly $100 billion in profits from the project, and have spent more than $50 million on congress and think tanks that heavily push for the pipeline.
The Kochs have long been one of the largest players in the tar sands region of Alberta, Canada. The report connects the Kochs’ 50 year history and large footprint in the Canadian tar sands to the current debate about the pipeline. Since the Kochs are big players, it stands to reason they will be big winners when the pipeline gets built. IFG crunched the numbers and puts forth a compelling answer to why the Kochs have used their influence networks to push for fast-tracking of pipeline – $100 billion in potential profits.

WV Chemical Spill - Let the lawsuits begin. Poisoning of the water for 300,000 is not the fault of the operator?

Last Friday, as lawsuits piled up over the chemical spill that left hundreds of thousands of West Virginia residents without potable water for days, Freedom Industries, the company responsible for the leak, declared bankruptcy.
The filing set off a battle between several private companies trying to avoid liability for the damages suffered by West Virginians. It also provided new insight into the previously murky ownership of Freedom Industries, and a sense of what the company’s foreclosure strategy may look like.

Nebraska lawmaker proposes bill which would make Churches pay Taxes.

An atheist lawmaker has proposed legislation in Nebraska that would essentially tax churches and other religious organizations.

Ernie Chambers, who may be the highest-ranking openly atheist politician in the country, introduced a bill that would eliminate a state property tax exemption for those organizations.

Chambers, an independent, submitted the bill, LB675, as simply a copy of the existing statute with the word “religious” crossed out at each mention among groups that are currently exempt from property taxes.

Texas - Anti Choice Law at its worst. The war against women continues

Republicans only want laws that invade your  vagina - other than that (and anti gay laws), people should not be restricted by petty laws, like gun laws.
The law denies women the same rights as men to make decisions regarding their end-of-life care, and allows the state government to overrule a woman’s ability to make her own healthcare choices. Yet that same government all too often lacks the interest, will or resources to assist families in raising children, much less children born to brain-dead mothers. And the hospital has not discussed any support that it will offer Munoz’s family in the case that the fetus is delivered alive.
Given Texas’s aggressively anti-choice behavior over the past year, it would be easy to say that these actions just demonstrate the perspective of one state. But such laws exist in over half the states in this country, although they vary in their wording and strictness. While Texas’s law falls on the stricter end of the spectrum, the knowledge that so many state governments

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow broke down the curious reversal of fortune for New Jersey Port Authority chair David Samson since the man who installed him in the position, Gov. Chris Christie (R), took office in 2010, and the intersection of his possible involvement in both the threats against the mayor of Hoboken and the lane closure scandal concerning the George Washington Bridge.
Maddow cited a WNYC-FM report pointing out that Samson’s law firm, Wolff and Samson, went from doing $40,000 worth of business a year to more than $1 million a year after being named to the Port Authority.
But the firm also represents the development group behind a development project in Hoboken that allegedly prompted Christie’s Lieutenant Governor, Kim Guadano (R) to threaten Mayor Dawn Zimmer to expedite it or risk losing relief funds in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

NFL Bad Lip Reading

Super Bowl is coming up in a week - Bad Lip Reading to get you ready.

Legal Drugs are a worst problem than illegal drugs.

The war against illegal drug use has been going on for decades, but now it seems the “war on drugs” should have a new target… Legal drug addiction is taking lives in record numbers.
In the UK, 1 million people are addicted to over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription painkillers and tranquilizers; that’s significantly more than the number addicted to illegal drugs.

In the US, it’s a similar story. There were four times more deaths among women from prescription painkiller overdose than for cocaine and heroin deaths combined in 2010.

Legal drug addiction is tricky because it often starts out with a prescription obtained from a doctor. Many people find themselves addicted to painkillers before they even realize what’s happened, often after taking the drugs to recover from surgery or treat chronic back, or other, pain.

Unemployment Stopped - How is it going? Not well

It has been almost a month since Congress let emergency unemployment benefits expire for 1.3 million Americans. Since then, Republicans and Democrats have bickered about how to reinstate these benefits, with little progress—a comprehensive unemployment bill recently failed in the Senate, and similar measures in the GOP-run House haven't even gotten a vote. Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate majority leader, has promised to press the issue when lawmakers return from recess next week. But until Congress comes to some sort of agreement, unemployed Americans will have to wait.
Shortly after Christmas, we spoke to seven Americans who were set to lose their benefits. We checked back with a few of them this week to ask how their situations have changed. We've also collected a few new stories—some directly, and some from other news outlets. Many of these people quoted here have chosen to remain anonymous so as not to damage their job prospects. Their responses have been condensed and edited for clarity.

From there, Silverman goes on to say that “using religion to dictate legislation is un-American, but it’s happening.” The goal of the video is to raise awareness about the “From V to Shining V” national pride day for women, which is being organized by Lady Parts Justice on September 28th, 2014. The group is aiming to set up rallies at all 50 state capitals; Silverman will be leading the one in Concord, New Hampshire.

Coal-fired power plants are the nation's biggest water polluters, spewing millions of pounds of toxic metals and other pollutants like arsenic, boron, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, and selenium into surface waters each year.
Beyond West Virginia, need another example of how close to home this contamination can be? Duke Energy's coal ash pollution is contaminating North Carolina's Mountain Island Lake - a drinking water source for more than 750,000 people in the greater Charlotte area.
Additionally, Duke Energy's coal ash pollution from one coal plant in North Carolina kills 900,000 fish every year in Sutton Lake -- and that's just how it affects the fish!
In West Virginia, parents are wondering if they can let their kids drink the water, pregnant women are being told to drink bottled water -- and we don't even know yet the full effects of these leaked chemicals on the land and aquatic wildlife.

Loophole allows lawmakers to reel in trips and donations –> For a window into how money from special interests buys access to lawmakers legally, take a trip to the ski slopes of Vail, CO and Park City, UT with New York Times reporter Eric Lipton. Lipton’s report describes how lawmakers, donors and lobbyists are hobnobbing and fundraising at “destination events” in exclusive vacation venues. Since a corruption scandal in 2007, Congress prohibits lobbyists from giving gifts to lawmakers. But there’s a legal workaround: corporate and lobbyist dollars can be given to political campaigns and leadership PACs. If the PACs then use the money to pay for lavish ski vacations or trips to the golf course it’s no longer “technically” a gift. And it’s entirely legal for lawmakers to travel home to DC with their vacation buddies’ business interests in mind.

Emeritus, for its part, rejects any suggestion that a quest for profits has tainted its admission practices. But in interviews, former Emeritus executives described a corporate culture that often emphasized cash flow above all else. The accounts of the executives, who spoke independently but anonymously, were strikingly consistent.
“It was completely focused on numbers and not human lives,” said one executive, who worked for Emeritus for more than three years and oversaw dozens of facilities in Eastern states.
The company’s emphasis on sales and occupancy rates, the executive said, transformed the workforce into “a group of people who were grasping at every single lever they could pull to drive profitability.”

This is only the last few.  The numbers are staggering.

I tried being on Food Stamps for a week. Paul Ryan is wrong!

Rep. Stephen Fincher (whose district receives millions in farm subsidies) even  quoted the Bible to make his anti-SNAP point: “For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat.”
Cantor et al. would be wise to know that  41 percent of SNAP recipients are in a household generating income. Yet, for some “able-bodied” workers, a meager income is still not enough to put food on the table. Employees of Wal-Mart and McDonalds, for example, are major beneficiaries of SNAP. (A 2012  Daily Kos article reported that 80 percent of Wal-Mart’s employees benefit from SNAP. One Wal-Mart in Canton, Ohio, even held a  food drive for their fellow employees struggling to afford the cost of Thanksgiving dinner.) Those SNAP beneficiaries who are not employed include children, the disabled and the elderly.

Folks who have had 75% of their Retirement Benefits taken away are talking about the unfairness.

Bridgegate - More Evidence - Christie's folks have a lot of splainin to do.

While reading the diary Port Authority Chief Samson Says He Might Resign in Wake of Bridgegate by ericlewis0, I noticed a very unusual paragraph in the associated New York Times Article.
In fact, Mr. Foye did not have to distance himself from the bridge issue; supervisors of operations at the bridge had been told by Christie political operatives that they were specifically not to inform Mr. Foye of the lane shutdowns.

Sandy Extortion could be WORSE Than Closing the Lanes on the GW Bridge.

Interest in the mayor claims comes at the same time the U.S. Attorney's Office is reviewing the September lane closures on to the George Washington Bridge, which are also the subject of an ongoing investigation by the state Legislature.
But James Cohen, a law professor at Fordham University, said the Hoboken case is more serious.
"Closing the George Washington Bridge, that is very serious. It takes a lot of balls," Cohen said. "But this deals with dollars — the misuse of federal tax dollars. The feds will treat that very, very serious."

Snoring is a tricky condition because there really isn’t a “cure.” To naturally stop or lessen your snoring, lifestyle changes are key. Exercise, weight loss, managing allergies, and changing sleeping positions are the types of things that seem to really work for some people but, like any remedy, may not do anything for another person. Try to figure out what’s causing your snoring so you can treat your snoring as effectively as possible.

Another Bloody Week in America

Here’s one adamantine fact. Thursday afternoon, a little girl in Michigan found a rifle under the bed at her grandfather’s house. Curious, as four-year-olds are, she pulled the gun out. What happened next is unclear. We know that somehow she pulled the trigger and her four-year-old cousin is dead.

Accidents happen, National Rifle Association leaders will probably say. Accidents will happen. That is a fact. Wayne LaPierre could fall off a stepladder at home. He could even break his neck in a fall. Then the gun nuts would have a new bumper sticker slogan. I can see it now: “Guns don’t kill people. Stepladders do.”

What else happened in gun-related news last week? Tuesday, a 12-year-old boy opened fire with a shotgun at his school. We’ve had so many school shootings in America we need to clarify which one and where. This time the bloodshed took place at Berrendo Middle School in Roswell, New Mexico. ABC News talked to one witness soon after the shooting:
“I just saw blood everywhere,” Essance Sosa, 12, said Tuesday. “Everyone started screaming and running.”   Of course there is more...

Hoboken Mayor told to start a Billion Dollar Project with Christie Buddies or lose Storm Funding.

Chris Christie's problem was never that some of his closest aides thought it would be a good idea to punish a mayor by closing lanes on a bridge. Christie's problem was that some of his closest aides thought he would think it was a good idea to punish a mayor by closing lanes on a bridge. And now the press is going to start finding out why his top aides thought that.

In an exclusive interview on Saturday with MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer said New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and community affairs commissioner Richard Constable delivered a message on behalf of Governor Chris Christie: Approve a ‘lucrative redevelopment plan favored by the governor’ or ‘be starved of hurricane relief money.’
“The fact is, the Lt. Gov came to Hoboken and she pulled me aside in the parking lot and she said, ‘I know that it’s not right, I know that this thing should not be connected, but they are. And if you tell anyone, I’ll deny it,’” claimed Mayor Zimmer.

Agent Orange Corn - Chemical Corn may be for sale soon, without labeling

The Obama administration  announced last week that it expects to approve corn and soybeans that have been genetically engineered by Dow Chemical company to tolerate the toxic herbicide — 2,4-D. They are planning this approval despite the fact that use of this herbicide is  associated with increased rates of deadly immune system cancers, Parkinson’s disease, endocrine disruption, birth defects, and many other serious kinds of illness and reproductive problems.

There is in fact considerable  evidence linking the weedkiller 2,4-D, by itself, to cancer, lowered sperm counts, birth defects, neurological damage and other serious health harms. Dozens of  studies in humans have reported an association between exposure to 2,4-D and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells that can be fatal.
Convinced by such research, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and parts of Canada have  banned 2,4-D. But instead of protecting the American people from this poison, the USDA is acting as a salesman for Dow. I

Koch - New Organization started to pick Koch candidates for state and national elections.

Aegis Strategic comes across as an effort by the Koch brothers' allies to bring in-house the business of campaigns. On its website, Aegis bills itself as a one-stop shop for candidates who are "committed to freedom and economic opportunity," offering candidates such services as opposition research, fundraising, direct mail, TV/radio/cable advertisements, phone banking, data management, and social media. The company's office is located just blocks from Americans for Prosperity's national headquarters, the offices of various Koch-funded foundations, and Freedom Partners, the primary vehicle for anonymous money raised by the Koch donor network.
Pledging to identify and train budding conservative and libertarian candidates, Aegis potentially fills a gap that the Kochs have previously identified in their political operation. Donors and activists who are active in the Koch network say there was widespread frustration following the 2012 elections, during which the GOP had fielded so many lackluster candidates. "You can spend all the money on a candidate you want, but if they're talking about self-deportation, or betting $10,000, or 47 percent, you're gonna lose," says Stan Hubbard, a Minnesota-based radio and TV magnate who attends the Koch seminars. "You have a bad candidate, you're gonna lose."

Zero Evidence of a traffic study: Christie and the GW Bridge mess gets worse.

So far there is no evidence that there was a legitimate traffic study that went through proper channels. Furthermore, it looks as if staff felt pressured to go along with the bridge closure even though they were aware of the potential problems. These new developments highlight the dangers in the path that Governor Chris Christie chose in dealing with this crisis, which was to claim that he knew nothing about it while blaming staff and a traffic study. The traffic study is down. Christie better hope his staff (and ex staff) hold up better under scrutiny than the traffic study story.

NO Pants Subway Ride - video

No Pants on the Subway - OK.  Interesting.

JUNEAU -- A government report indicates a large-scale copper and gold mine in Alaska's Bristol Bay region could have devastating effects on the world's largest sockeye salmon fishery and adversely affect Alaska Natives whose culture is built around salmon.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday released its final assessment of the impact of mining in the Bristol Bay region. Its findings are similar to those of an earlier draft report, concluding that, depending on the size of the mine, up to 94 miles of streams would be destroyed in the mere build-out of the project, including losses of between 5 and 22 miles of streams known to provide salmon spawning and rearing habitat. Up to 5,350 acres of wetlands, ponds and lakes also would be lost due to the mine footprint.

Embattled New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may idolize "The Boss," but when it comes to Bridgegate at least, the feeling isn't mutual.

Rachel Maddow takes apart the Christ Christie Story on the Bridge Shutdown. Christie is toast.

All roads lead to Christie's inner circle

Rachel Maddow points out that several statements made by NJ Governor Chris Christie about the bridge scandal are demonstrably false given newly revealed facts.

Chris Christie: I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT BRIDGE! Is it a Clinton (or Weiner) Moment?

What makes it possible for anyone to buy Christie’s denial is the swagger with which he makes it. His rise to power was propelled by his snarling contempt for anyone who’d dare challenge him. His ruthlessness was seen as an asset; to take on the vested interests, you have show your enemies how big a bat you swing. It’s the political equivalent of Weiner’s lewd pictures: Look how large I am!

GMO CROPS AND HAWAII - Hawaii being sued by BIG AGRA for limiting GMO crops

As was expected, Big Biotech’s legal juggernaut has rolled into action in Hawai’i. On Friday afternoon, three big agrochemical companies — Pioneer-DuPont, Syngenta, and Agrigenetics Inc (a subsidiary of Dow Chemical) —  filed a suit in a federal court in Honolulu seeking to block Kauai County’s new GMO regulatory law. Two other big agribusiness concerns on the island that will be affected by the law — Kauai Coffee and BASF — haven’t joined the suit.

Many residents, especially those living on the west side of the island where most of the biotech companies’ fields are located, are deeply concerned about the health and environmental impact of the large volumes of pesticides used these fields. Three-two four crop harvests a year, they say, means a tripling or quadrupling of the amount of pesticide used — way over what’s used in fields, GMO or otherwise — on typical farms. Many local doctors and nurses, teachers and parents are especially worried that exposure to pesticides is harming children.

CLIMATE DENIERS LOOK RIDICULOUS when you consider 1 of 9137 Climate Scientists deny Climate Change

That’s right. Only one — ONE — of the 9,137 authors of peer-reviewed climate change articles rejected anthropogenic global warming. Geochemist James Powell did the research on publications from November 2012 and December 2013. (But if a year-long sample isn’t good enough for you, Powell previously examined 21 years of peer-reviewed literature and found that only 24 out of 13,950 articles — or two-tenths of a percent — came out and rejected human-caused climate change.)
The lone dissident, S. V. Avakyan, wrote in Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences, “The contribution of the greenhouse effect of carbon-containing gases to global warming turns out to be insignificant.” But Coby Beck smacks this idea down in his “How to talk to a climate skeptic” series. Plus, Avakyan clearly admits his bias on the very first page of his article:

Fracking has ruined the water near fracking site - FRACKER SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRINK

TEXAS:  A Fracking Co did testing and said the water was safe so the EPA did not test.  An independent found explosive levels of chemicals in water - EPA asked to get involved AGAIN.

Christie Bridge problem is getting worse.

Highly Paid Teachers? Pay them $3.00 an hour and see what happens..

That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and planning -- that equals 6-1/2 hours).
So each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now how many students do they teach in a day...maybe 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585 a day.

Waste Water De-regulation Bill passes the House the day 300,000 LOSE DRINKING WATER because of a lack of regulation.

As West Virginians were learning Thursday of a devastating chemical spill in the Elk River that has rendered water undrinkable for 300,000 people, the US House of Representatives was busy gutting federal hazardous-waste cleanup law.

The House passed the Reducing Excessive Deadline Obligations Act that would ultimately eliminate requirements for the Environmental Protection Agency to review and update hazardous-waste disposal regulations in a timely manner, and make it more difficult for the government to compel companies that deal with toxic substances to carry proper insurance for cleanups, pushing the cost on to taxpayers.
In addition, the bill would result in slower response time in the case of a disaster, requiring increased consultation with states before the federal government calls for cleanup of Superfund sites -- where hazardous waste could affect people and the environment.

Other New Jersey Mayors punished - no meetings or less money with no endorsement

Jersey City, N.J. Mayor Steve Fulop told the Wall Street Journal in a story published late Sunday that he's been frozen out since he opted against endorsing Christie last year. The Journal reported that Christie officials offered Fulop "new access to state commissioners, who hold the purse strings for many Jersey City services" in exchange for his support.

NSA Reforms Coming Soon! President Obama to announce them.

46 Changes have been recommended.
In an effort to revive public confidence in the nation’s embattled intelligence services, the White House on Wednesday released a report suggesting far-reaching changes to the National Security Agency’s controversial data collection programs.
The report, offered by the Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies, was commissioned by President Obama following the firestorm of controversy that erupted when former government contractor Edward Snowden disclosed many of the NSA’s surveillance programs, including one that gathers the telephone records of nearly all Americans, in June.

Hero: Aizaz tackled a person at school, it was a bomber. Aizaz and bomber died saving hundreds of innocents.

What Aitzaz did was simply incredible. The word hero doesn't come close to describing him. Here's someone, a teenager no less, whose instinct was to protect the people around him from danger, and who acted on that instinct. He gave his life for them.
I think about the gratitude that the parents of the children at his school must feel toward Aitzaz, and toward his family for raising a boy who would do what he did, who would act like a man in the best sense of the word.

All I can do is think about how small Kelly and Wildstein are, and how for the rest of their lives they will be defined by that smallness, by vindictiveness, and by a complete lack of empathy for their fellow citizens and human beings.
And then I think about Aitzaz Hasan, and how his name will always evoke humanity, and love, and sacrifice. David Wildstein, Bridget Kelly, and Chris Christie could learn a lot from a 14-year-old about what it means to be a human being.

Right Wingers in FULL POWER Mode to stop any legislation to move our country forward - Obama Conspiracy is the goal

A secret audio tape of a May 8th meeting of the conservative group “Groundswell” (a total nightmare amalgamation of creatures mostly bearing Southern drawls, birther conspiracy beliefs and a reliable paranoia of being persecuted) shows the group using their collective power (media, sleeping with SCOTUS, money, evangelical base/money, GOP Congressional aides) to pressure elected Republicans into making something out of the now debunked Benhazi scandal.

Among those present at this meeting were Ginni Thomas (wife of sitting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas), former Republican Representative Allen West and of course, Stephen Bannon of Breitbart News, who was on hand to instruct everyone how to handle the talking points (keep repeating that you are just interested in the “TRUTH”).

One of their agendas is to create a scandal out of Benhazi. And now we know how they did it.
Just imagine this—the party that calls everyone else a Nazi is meeting in secret to use their collective power of media, money and power to pressure elected Republicans to carry out their orders.

California beaches being RADIATED? The numbers are not coming from the State or Feds? Why Not?

[See Over 462 trillion becquerels Fukushima strontium in Pacific Ocean, Seafood risk]
Babies dying at a 35% increased rate in eight northwest U.S. cities since the Fukushima meltdowns has been another secret. Radiation expert Joseph Managno's has asserted that Americans will pay a high price for government and media cover-up and deception related to Fukushima radiation, such as telling women only harmless trace levels of radiation are coming to the U.S. from Fukushima. Increasingly, women in the United States have a special commonality with Japanese women: suffering spontaneous abortions and infant deaths.
Fukushima radiation secrecy has also involved the California Department of Public Health. It has not been posting updated radiation information for the public.
Wieckowski is urging the state’s health department to post updated information on the issue to its homepage.
Californians are concerned and seeking information about potential health risks caused by contaminated water coming to the state from the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, says Wieckowski (D-Fremont).
