Gun Violence is now inevitable - Gun Violence is happening regularly

The ‘alarming regularity’ of gun violence
Mark Glaze from Mayors Against Illegal Guns discusses the current prospects for gun safety reform this year and the fear that Americans might be becoming complacent with the violence.

Guns: Are you a school shooter if you take a gun to school for protection and then shoot yourself? People Shot this past week.

Nineteen people on this week's list accidentally shot themselves, and the seven child victims of GunFAIL were mostly teenagers, with the exception of a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Three people were accidentally shot while hunting, three while cleaning still-loaded weapons, and two by freedom-loving neighbors who were unsure where in the Constitution it said they had to keep their bullets to themselves.
Five cops and/or security guards were involved in GunFAIL incidents in the past week, ranging from the guy who was hired as a bouncer to keep guns out of a neighborhood party, but ended up somehow losing his gun during that party, to the BART officer accidentally shot and killed by another in the line of duty.

Guns put 20 Youth in the Hospital daily!

Did you know that in 2009, there were 7391 hospitalizations due to injuries from firearms in youth less than 20 years old? That averages to 20 a day--almost one an hour.

NRA Resolutions for the New Year by Eliot Fineman

We will stop referring to ourselves as a "civil rights" organization that defends "human rights." It is a sacrilege to people actually killed or harmed by civil and human rights abuses.

We will stop blaming gun crime on "failure to enforce existing laws" and confess that it is our lobbying that has blocked sharing and computerizing of national firearm sales data so crimes cannot be solved. We also block weapon microstamping, further making sure the "bad guys'" never get caught.

We admit that arming bad guys through such loose laws and then blaming armed "bad guys" for the need for more firearms is like killing your parents and crying you are an orphan.

How the GUN LOBBY WON after NewTown and the killing of 20 children at Sandy Hook Elem.

Even by the standards of mass public shootings in America, what happened last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School was staggering. Twenty-six victims, most no older than seven, were gunned down in their classrooms days before Christmas.
For gun-control advocates, Newtown offered an unprecedented moment to push to reform the nation’s gun laws. The day of the shooting, a visibly moved President Barack Obama called for “meaningful action.” One month later, a coalition of grieving Sandy Hook parents vowed to fight nationwide for “sensible solutions to prevent gun violence.” Some politicians with top ratings from the National Rifle Association (NRA) even indicated they’d be willing to consider new laws.
It didn’t quite work out that way.
In the wake of Sandy Hook, the gun-rights lobby outspent, out-organized and out-maneuvered gun-control advocates at both the state and federal level. A FRONTLINE examination of state legislation and federal lobbying expenditures shows that gun-rights groups outspent gun-control backers by nearly $10 million, and that around the country, states passed more than twice as many laws expanding gun owners’ rights than they did gun-control measures.

If we make the US better for kids - what would the US look like?  A comparison of countries that truly put children first.

NRA Defends Right to OWN POLITICIANS

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee today, National Rifle Association C.E.O. Wayne LaPierre warned that the N.R.A. would vigorously oppose any legislation that “limits the sale, purchase, or ownership of politicians.”

“Politicians pose no danger to the public if used correctly,” said Mr. LaPierre, who claims to have over two hundred politicians in his personal collection. “Everyone hears about the bad guys in Congress. Well, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a vote is a good guy with a vote. I’m proud to be the owner of many of those guys.”

Rep Steve Stockman wants 'GUNS FILLED SCHOOLS'

TX Republican Steve Stockman wants to allow basically anyone to carry a gun in school just in case someone decides to shoot the school up.  The problem is:  Houses with loaded guns has proven that more gun deaths and suicides take place.  Guns everywhere generally means death everywhere so I, as a teacher, think it is a bad idea.

Gun Violence Continues,,, Nobody wants to upset the NRA

There are serious, unanswered questions related to how the 12-year-old shooter in suburban Reno so easily got the gun that he used to kill on a school day.
I’ve spoken to law enforcement officials who balk at supporting gun bans, but who could see supporting laws that forced people to be far more responsible in how they stored their guns.
What about mandating that if you’re going to buy a gun, you have to buy a gun safe to store it? What about stiffer laws to punish parents whose children used family guns to kill – if law enforcement determined they were negligent in storing their weapons?
This conversation never happens. Compromise and responsibility are drowned out by calls to ban pitchforks or rakes instead.
So I end it here just as I ended the last gun column after the Nevada killings two weeks ago: It’s going to happen again. Somewhere. Everywhere. The crisis can’t be denied.

THE NRA is the ATF'S biggest enemy: The story

The NRA also scored a long-lasting victory in the 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act, which eased rules so individuals could sell weapons from private collections without possessing a federal firearms license.
That redefinition of what it meant to be "engaged in the business" of selling firearms opened up what came to be known as the "gun-show loophole," in which private sellers circumvent paperwork and background-check requirements imposed on licensees. To this day it "handcuffs the ATF," as gun-control advocate Dennis Henigan put it.

US Gun Culture is corrupting the world says Australian Politician

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Furious at the killing of an Australian college baseball player in Oklahoma, a senior figure in the victim's home country blamed the “gun culture” of United States for the death, saying it was “corrupting the world."
“The U.S. has chosen the pathway of illogical policy with regard to guns," Australia’s former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer said Friday. "They cannot expect not to have any criticism of it worldwide.”

"Anybody can tomorrow go to a gun show in Oklahoma or California and buy a gun without a simple background check. That is illogical.”

The ATF has no power to enforce GUN LAWS because the NRA has stripped the ATF of all power. They CANNOT ASK Gun Shops for records or information.

The ATF, Alchohol, Tabacco and Firearms office 10 years ago was stripped of the legal power to ask a Gun Shop for records and were strippped of the power to make a data base of guns used in crimes BY THE NRA!!  The NRA got a congressman to put a poison pill in a bill which took away the power to regulate guns.  We have not had a director of the ATF for 6 years because the NRA does not want one chosen - sweet deal for the NRA to stop the AFT from doing its job.

40 Percent of purchased guns have NO BACKGROUND CHECKS!! That is 6 million guns per year sold without background checks.

I found this article interesting:  From FOX   A guest says: No Background Checks at all!!  I think this is a crazy idea.

Under current federal law, licensed federal firearms dealers conduct background checks on gun purchasers to prevent dangerous individuals such as violent criminals or the mentally ill from obtaining weapons. Gun transfers, “private sellers” or transactions at gun shows or online are exempt from the requirement and as a result more than 6 million gun transfers are unscreened.
