Newest CBO study: Tax Breaks favor the wealthy

But a new study of the top 10 tax expenditures also show why GOP leaders including Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp refuse to name a single loophole they would close to achieve it. As the new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis shows, half the value of those $900 billion in tax breaks goes to the top quintile of American income earners. Nevertheless, their elimination would devastate lower and middle income households.
The CBO review of the ten largest expenditures in the individual tax system shows the big numbers at stake. As the National Journal explained:
The top 10 most expensive tax expenditures will cost the federal government roughly $900 billion in 2013, according to CBO--and close to $12 trillion over the next several years through 2023. That's about 5.4 percent of the gross domestic product.

The Gun Manufacturers are out to make money, nothing more nothing less.  If a person comes in and buys 50 AR-15 guns with big clips, they ask no questions.  They just sell guns and then WILL NOT HELP THE POLICE after a crime has been committed with those guns.

So then the Feds set up the FAST AND FURIOUS mess where they were trying to trace guns.  They can't trace them in the US (because of laws) so they tried in Mexico and that was a disaster and they caught hell.  Fast and Furious was started by GW Bush.

GUN MANUFACTURERS CANNOT BE SUED because of a law passed by GW BUSH.

Manufacturers and/or distributors do not have to give the police or authorities requested information about guns used in crimes.

The law signed that day, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, has smothered lawsuits by cities around the country, including by New York, that sought to force manufacturers to be more careful in how they sold and distributed guns.

An article in The New York Times on Tuesdayreported that numerous gun executives stated during sworn depositions that it was not important for them to keep track of how often their guns were used in crimes.
For instance, Mr. Brown said that he never examined the “trace” requests that came from law enforcement to see which of the companies that he supplied were, in turn, selling guns that ended up being used in crimes.

Republican Issa future hearing: WHY DIDN'T OBAMA STOP THE IRAQ WAR? (He lied to us about WMD's)

It seems that Fox News and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) want to get to the bottom of this travesty. They are appalled that the American people could’ve been lied to so vehemently at the cost of thousands of American military lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. Rep. Issa is calling a judiciary committee hearing to investigate the Obama administration’s failure to travel back in their time machine 10 years to stop President Bush from invading Iraq on false evidence.

Moving Out Today

I started my move out of my apartment.  I have one of the best views in Juneau and will miss the place. I call it the Rat Hole because the building was moving towards condemnation.  It was bought out and it is being remodeled.  A lot of money is going into the plumbing, electrical and foundation.

I am moving into a trailer which sits on a hill overlooking a beach.  I really lucked out.  I can put my kayak by the water and go out easily on a nice day.  The old place had eagles but they have been run off by black birds.  The eagles have not been here in 5 days.  No eagles, time to leave.  The new place has eagles as well.

The new place is owned by a friend who was going to sell.  She is moving to Texas,  I told her that if she did not want to sell, I would rent it next year.  Making a move from Juneau to Texas is a big move and she liked the idea of coming back her for summers.  I store my stuff there and move in Aug 15.

It is going to be hard to leave this place permanently, which I plan on doing next year at this time.  It is kind of sad to move but also exciting.  I will stay in the new place starting Thurs night until I fly out.  I will be out of the old place by noon Friday.

Moving is sure a pain.

Juanita Jean speaks: FOX lies? YEP!! Half of what comes out of their mouths is lies!! Dang.

Is there something in the Bible about telling lies?  The Democrats tell lies a lot less than the Republicans.

A leading media fact-checking organization rates Republicans as less trustworthy than Democrats, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study finds that has rated Republican claims as false three times as often as Democratic claims during President Obama’s second term. Republicans continue to get worse marks in recent weeks, despite controversies over Obama administration statements on Benghazi, the IRS and the AP.
According to CMPA President Dr Robert Lichter, “While Republicans see a credibility gap in the Obama administration, PolitiFact rates Republicans as the less credible party.”

Demand creates jobs, NOT TAX CUTS!

If demand dictates a business must grow—it will.
Trust me, companies don’t create jobs based on their tax rates.  I’ve never seen a single company expand just because they got a tax break.  You won’t see a CEO say, “Even though there’s no need to expand, we got a tax cut so let’s hire new employees even though we don’t need them.”
Big corporations and the rich can whine all they want about tax breaks being necessary for job creation, but they know it’s a lie.
It’s just basic economics.  Jobs are created by demand, not tax breaks.

Ice Break-up in Bush Alaska

Each year, breakup along the Yukon means the ice is taking over the river.  Here is a video of ice moving and it goes where it wants.  It can take over a town and destroy whole villages in a matter of minutes.  The apartment which I lived in in emmonak was flooded a couple of times.  Break up in village Alaska is a big deal.

LIBERAL GROUPS AUDITED under GW Bush! No outrage about that. Why not?

“I wish there was more GOP interest when I raised the same issue during the Bush administration, where they audited a progressive church in my district in what look liked a very selective way,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told MSNBC on Monday (video below).
One of the liberal groups targeted by the IRS under the Bush administration was All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California, reported the Los Angeles Times.
The IRS actually threatened to revoke the church's tax-emption because Pastor George Regas said: ‘Mr. President, your doctrine of preemptive war is a failed doctrine," on the Sunday before the 2004 election.
Ironically, conservative churches that actively campaigned for President Bush in 2004 were not audited by the IRS, reported the New York Times.

THE NEW GUN POLITICS ARE ON THE MOVE: Watch out NRA - You are in trouble.

By meeting’s end, it occurred to me that what I had witnessed was a microcosm of the new gun politics. There were only five protesters, but because of their belligerence, they had nearly captured the entire discussion. Manchin, however, had realized that there were a lot of people there who weren’t shouting at him—and when he persisted, it turned out that many of them agreed with him. After all, polls had found a vast majority of West Virginians supported his proposal. If he could pull this off in West Virginia, surely his colleagues could manage it in New Hampshire or Montana. And if Bloomberg and the mom-activists get their way, they may soon have to. “Sure, you get a few [opponents], and I understand that,” Manchin told me. “But it’s not the majority. The majority support a reasonable, responsible approach to what we’re doing. But you gotta be willing to come out here and talk about it. If you won’t talk about it, you got problems."

NRA; A paper tiger? They have lost a lot of clout and losing elections.

... for some time now, the NRA’s power has been more a matter of entrenched wisdom than actual fact. Gun ownership is declining—from half of households in the 1970s to a third today. A slew of senators and governors have won campaigns in red or purple states despite NRA F ratings, including Tim Kaine (Virginia), Kay Hagan (North Carolina), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Claire McCaskill (Missouri), and Bill Nelson (Florida), who has campaigned on gun control but has won majorities even in deeply conservative Panhandle counties. Senator Chris Murphy, a rookie Connecticut Democrat who has taken a lead on the issue since the Newtown massacre, points out that, of the 16 Senate races the NRA participated in last year, 13 of its candidates lost. “The NRA is just all mythology,” he says. “The NRA does not win elections anymore.”

Juanita Jean: Guns and Memorial Weekend in TX means shootin people

Shootin!!  I am so boring, never shot anyone, even when I was drunk.  Texas was perty exciting this past weekend.

ROUNDUP is hazardous to your health AND GETTING WORSE!

Because too much is never enough, the Environmental Protection Agency just raised the allowable limits for how much of that chemical can remain on the food we eat, and the crops we feed to animals — many of which end up on our plates as well. If you haven’t guessed its identity yet, it’s Monsanto’s Roundup, a powerful weed killer.
The EPA and Monsanto are apparently hoping that no one notices the recent rule change — or, if we do notice, that we respond with a collective shrug. But that, my friends, would be a mistake. While Roundup may truly be the “safest” pesticide ever invented, that isn’t quite the same as “safe.” It just may be that Roundup represents a hitherto unrecognized threat to our health — not because of what it does to our bodies, but because of what it does to our “internal ecology,” a.k.a. our “microbiome.”
...scientists are just beginning to explore the inner reaches of our bodies to understand how our microbiome affects our health. Nonetheless, there are some growing signs that Roundup might be the last thing you want in there.
**If it feels like Monsanto and its biotech brethren get to call the shots when it comes to toxic chemicals on our food, well, you’re right. On the other hand, the EPA is still accepting comments on these new glyphosate limits. Maybe if consumers make enough noise, the agency might reconsider.

World MARCHES AGAINST MONSANTO but US Congressmen Protect Monsanto by voting down GMO labeling..

On Saturday, protestors in dozens of countries took to the streets to “March against Monsanto.” The coordinated day of action against genetic engineering and reprehensible business practices by the Missouri-based company came just two days after the Senate rejected a bid by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to ensure that his state and others are free to mandate labels on transgenic foods.

FRACKING: Cancer Causing Benzene goes into Colorado Stream

Once again, Colorado’s fracking boom has residents wondering if there’s something in the water — carcinogenic benzene, in this case. A plant for fracked natural gas processor Williams Energy, near Parachute, Colo., spilled an estimated 241 barrels of mixed natural gas liquid into the ground, some of which eventually washed as benzene into Parachute Creek.
-Of course, no fines 2 months after the accident and the company is in charge of the cleanup.

Real Teaching is leaving the schools. Some teachers say goodbye.

I agree with her.  So much time is testing and preparing for testing that a lot of creative teaching is not possible at this day and age.  I am glad that I can leave teaching at any time I wish.  I am not pleased with the changes and the lack of funding which is impacting schools.  The evaluating teachers based on test scores is crazy.  Test scores correlate highly with income.  I teach in a school that has wealthy families, I have high test scores.  I move to a low income area and the scores struggle, at best.  The wealthy school also can fund raise and get extra money while the poor school has to struggle and beg for funds.

Once upon a time, public schools represented what was best about our democracy. Now, under the guise of "reform," the art of teaching has been dismissed and the emphasis is on mechanized testing (which, not incidentally, is making a lot of people very, very rich). This Illinois teacher posted this viral video last week after finding out she was being moved to a different school against her will --- in retaliation, she says, for sticking up for her kids:

The TEST, TEST , TEST AND CHARTER SCHOOL mantra is being questioned with solid objections.

... activists driving protests against the nation’s prevailing education policies are ratcheting the fight to unprecedented intensity that will likely become even more forceful in future efforts.

More Deficient Bridges than McDonald's in the USA

We all drive on bridges, overpasses, and viaducts that we assume must be safe because, surely, somebody inspected them and determined that they are safe. We pay taxes so somebody makes sure the bridges and roads are safe, right?
That trust is badly misplaced. For decades, we have been using up our infrastructure faster than we have been replacing it. [...]
More than three-quarters of the 239 heavily used bridges in the nation’s capital are rated structurally deficient or obsolete, the American Society of Civil Engineers estimates.

Free Birth Control Reduces Abortions

1) Let’s be clear: Based on actual evidence, we know that free birth control can reduce abortion by 60%. In the US, there are about 1.2 million abortions a year. So making free, high-quality birth control universally available can prevent over 700,000 abortions every year. In a decade, that would be around eight million abortions prevented.
Pro-lifers say they consider each abortion to be the murder of an innocent human child. So what’s at stake here is a practical method, that has been proven to be effective both in other countries and in US test studies, which will prevent eight million children (in the pro-life view) from being murdered.

NRA: 1000 kids killed in a school might be reason to consider changes

FAIRFAX, VA—National Rifle Association Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre said Monday that somewhere around 1,000 kids would have to die in a school shooting in order for the organization to reconsider their longstanding opposition to gun control.
"Yeah, that's probably the only way we'd reassess much of anything at this point: 1,000 dead kids, shot up pretty good, lying face down in the school auditorium or something like that," LaPierre said,

Memorial Day 2013

A Memorial Day Story: She paints the fallen

The Wall in WA DC.  It commemorates those who fell during Vietnam.  I had orders for Nam when I was in the Army.  Another soldier William Coon from Indiana also got orders.  I did not want to go and he was all for going to Nam.  He said he would switch orders with me if they cut down the troops being sent. (There had been rumors and there was massive protesting going on in the civilian world.)
As fate had it, my orders were cut and I was ordered to stay stateside.  Coon went to Nam.  I was in DC once and looked for his name on the wall, it was not there.  I am very thankful for the kind gesture of him taking my place.

I would also like to mention Roosevelt Barnett from Arkansas.  He had a wife and two babies.  I had a two bedroom trailer and I allowed Roosevelt and his wife and kids to stay in my place for two weeks so they could save money.  The landlord allowed and he was a retired army vet.  I forgot to mention that Roosevelt and his family were black.  I was in the South and there were no blacks in my trailer park.  Whites live that a way and Blacks live that a way.  It went from being one of the good old boys and great Southern Hospitality to a Black Lover.  The warm greetings from my neighbors ended.  When I was in DC, I looked for Roosevelt's name and it was not on the wall.

Thank You for those who died.  I think the current Iraq war is a waste and wish it were not a part of our lives.  Afghanistan was so poorly run because we took on two wars instead of dealing with one, that we are wasting lives, resources and causing a big hole in the average person's pocket book.

This link is a great story:  It is just appreciating those who are lost, without the political element.  It is worth watching.

California now has a budget surplus. Depending on whose numbers one uses, it is anywhere from $1.2 billion according to the Governor or $4.4 billion according to the Legislature’s independent financial analyst. How did California do it and what should they do about the surplus?
Democrats President Bill Clinton, President Barack Obama, and Governor Jerry Brown did not attempt an ideological game with blinders to the actual results. They tried basic arithmetic. They raised taxes. Interesting enough, the results were the same.

The Monsanto Protests are Worldwide. Started by a facebook post.

Protesters rallied in dozens of cities Saturday as part of a global protest against seed giant Monsanto and the genetically modified food it produces, organizers said.Organizers said “March Against Monsanto” protests were held in 52 countries and 436 cities, including Washington and Los Angeles, where demonstrators waved signs that read “Real Food 4 Real People” and “Label GMOs, It’s Our Right to Know.”

GAYS WITH GUNS!! LGBT with guns - interesting.

Gwendolyn Patton of Pink Pistols, a group that advocates gun ownership for the LGBT community. With taglines like "pick on someone your own caliber," and "armed gays don’t get bashed," Patton says Pink Pistols changes the perception that gay people are easy victims.

"We teach queers to shoot, and then we teach the rest of the world we’ve done it," Patton told WBEZ91.5, a public radio station in Chicago. "Because then they may think twice about using (LGBT people) as a target."

New Drug Report Out! Decriminalize and Regulate instead of the war on drugs.

The report reflects the growing political momentum throughout the U.S. and Latin America for major drug policy reforms. The people of Colorado and Washington made history last November by voting to legally regulate marijuana – a step that, if taken nationally, could deprive violent drug traffickers of their number one revenue source. A dozen other states are considering similar measures, and activists in many parts of the country are gearing up for initiative campaigns in two or four years. In Latin America, Uruguay’s parliament is debating a bill that would make it the first country in the world to legalize marijuana. The OAS report will no doubt provide further momentum to activists across the Americas.

Republicans: DESTRUCTION OF THE ECONOMY is their goal.

Republicans will not appoint anyone to the conference committee on the budget.  ECONOMIC SUICIDE IS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN with this move.  Great article to explain this dire situation.

For eight years Bush Republicans’ economic malfeasance decimated the economy and racked up debt that continues to this day, and they have spent the past four years attempting to finish what they started. For four years they made the American people pay the price with Draconian budget cuts, and despite their efforts, President Obama managed to mastermind a tepid recovery and get Americans back to work. It appears that absent success at completely destroying the economy by obstruction, they intend on causing a default they failed to achieve in 2011, and new Senate and House debt limit threats

HS STUDENT jailed for explosion found innocent. SHE GETS A SCHOLARSHIP TO SCIENCE SCHOOL.

you've heard about Kiera Wilmot. She's the Florida teen who was arrested for setting off a small explosion in her science class:

Kiera, 16-year-old junior, was arrested after the incident, which happened outside about 15 minutes before the school day began. No one was hurt, nor did she cause any damage. The school's resource officer arrested her on two possible felony charges, possessing a weapon on campus and discharging a destructive device. Kiera was suspended for 10 days, sent to an alternative school, which she still attends, and told she faced expulsion.

She was found innocent and given a full scholarship to a Science School.  Great News!

Japan switches to stimulus and GETS GROWTH! Europe stays with austerity and continues with a flat economy.

It's rare to see a macroeconomics experiment play out in real time in the way we are seeing it right now in Japan and in Europe. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has embarked on aggressive measures to stimulate Japan's long-moribund economy since he took office in December, and the result so far has been strong growth — and, perhaps, liftoff after a triple-dip recession. Europe, on the other hand, remains mired in the muck of austerity and economic contraction.

Louie Gohmert defends all BRAIN DEAD Americans.

Louie Gohmert, Republican Fool from Texas:  Leave choices of abortion to the woman and her Doctor.  Old, male politicians should not be making decisions of the womb and brainless babies.

Yes, definitely very sympathetic and empathetic there, Gomer. It is even good that you think the parents should be “consulted” about what decisions the government makes about forcing a baby to be born with no brain function, and forcing a woman to sit around for four or five months growing a baby with no brain function after she discovers the baby has no brain function, and going through labor, which we hear hurts? (We did not born our own son, but we’ve been told discomfort is involved.) And then delivering a baby, and then waiting for it to die. Yes, it is good of him to think parents should be consulted on that, and then forced to do it anyway.

We used to be that America put men on the moon.
We have become a society deeply in decline. And for anyone who is proud to be an American, it is sickening to watch it unfold.
The only question that remains is this: Will the American people rise up, with renewed pride in what their country once was and could be again, and demand better of its leaders?

Teleprompter President: Wrong - An excellent point

President Obama is criticized and mocked as the “teleprompter president.” Jay Leno, who is suffering from hardening of the punchlines as he gets older, mocked the President Thursday night, with the line, “It is not looking good for President Obama. Today his teleprompter took the fifth.” The anti-Obamma crowd was all over the joke.
The meme is patently untrue. And WC can prove it.

Daily Show missed the mark on Wayne Allyn Root IRS interview?

Honestly, this article makes some very good points.  It is worth reading.

Instead of going after Root for the fact that he probably deserved to be audited by the IRS, they decided to go after him for being a complete hypocrite when it comes to targeting Americans in any way, shape or form at all, and the fact that he doesn't care so much about those being profiled for their race or religion, as long as it's not someone like him affected by the profiling.

Bridge Collapse caused by huge piece of steel hitting span.

The collapse of the Interstate-5 bridge over the Skagit River in Washington State was triggered by an oversized truck hitting its steel span, sending two vehicles into the icy water 50-feet below, Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste said Friday.
Three people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Thursday evening, but there were no fatalities.

I got struck by lightning and I am sore

Yesterday, I was sitting in my studio office—basically a converted garage—while a thunderstorm brewed outside. After wrapping up a conference call with some of Ars' finest, I was getting ready to dive back into work when the storm really picked up. "Ahhhh," I thought as I leaned back in my chair to stare out at the strange greenish light against a purple-clouded backdrop. "So beautiful!"
At that moment—and this part is a little foggy—a bright arc of electricity shot through the window and directly into my chest. I'm not sure whether the arc originated from the sky or the ground, but it knocked me out of my chair. I hit the concrete floor and bounced back up to my feet, which were shuffling at top speed into a bookshelf. I remember thinking, "OK, going to die now. Do not fall down. Do not pass out."

A Railroad Bridge on fire and falls down Domino style.

The unintentional fire-show ultimately cost about $10 million in damages, and while the resulting footage probably isn't worth quite that much, it's something to see. Especially the way the rails themselves fall like puny little wires.

As a child, I lived by the railroad tracks and saw 1 bridge on fire.  A horse died going over a bridge and another bridge that collapsed as the bridge was going over it.  I even saw derailed trains and once the train had oranges and I picked up many boxes of oranges, put them in bags and sold them to neighbors.

Benghazi: 10 times worse than Watergate and Iran-Contra combined! REALLY?

Some are arguing that Obama, Clinton or somebody is guilty of a crime for “allowing” the attack on the consulate.

By that standard, Reagan would be guilty for the three attacks on U.S. facilities just in Lebanon: a suicide truck bomber attacked the U.S. Embassy in Beirut on April 18, 1983, killing 63 people including 17 Americans; another suicide bomber detonated a truck full of explosives at a U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut on Oct. 23, 1983, killing 241 U.S. Marines and injuring more than 100 others; a third truck bomber attacked the U.S. Embassy in Beirut again on Sept. 20, 1984, killing 24 people.

In addition, a suicide attack on the American embassy in Kuwait on Dec. 12, 1983, killed five people and injured more than 80 others.

No one talked of impeaching Reagan for “allowing” three attacks in Lebanon in less than 18 months, but then, this was back when Republicans blamed the perpetrators for attacks, not the other party.

IRS Scandal: A great commentary about it

The IRS scandal.
You mean the IRS scandal where not one, not a single one, of the targeted conservative groups requesting 501(c)3 or (c)4 designations were denied tax exempt status despite being engaged in blatantly political activities in direct violation of the intent of the tax code? You mean the IRS scandal where not one of the targeted organizations were denied their rights as citizens of the United States or, in point of fact, were not harmed in any way? You mean the IRS scandal where no actual laws were broken? Where there was no actual cover up? And where the IRS itself found the problem and corrected it and then reported it to the American people?
You mean that “scandal?”

The IRS Director had NO CHOICE but to take the 5th yesterday

She was the lady that blew the whistle on the practice of targeting Teaparty or Patriot groups.  There is a criminal investigation and she has been called a liar by the person heading yesterday's panel (Issa) so honestly, anything she said could and would be used against her in a court of law.  The panel would not be satisfied with yes/no answers and the details will be seeing the inside of a court room.

Stupid stunt - yes, but arrest and spending a night in jail seems too much.  Did they put pee in the balloons?

UNCONSTITUTIONAL: AZ abortion Law found unconstitutional

Arizona’s abortion law is unconstitutional, according to a federal appeals court. About a year ago, the state banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy except in medical emergencies. But a circuit court now ruled that the government has no right to ban an abortion before a fetus “is viable.”

A friend died today.

She was a counselor at my school but had to leave midyear last year because of breast cancer issues which she had been fending off for 11 years.

She and I worked with the hardest kids at my school and we worked together to improve the lives of the kids in our trust.  If I needed an idea, I would talk to her and if she needed an idea she talked to me. She would fly south to get blood tests taken and for my first couple of years she would talk about the improving numbers.  Last year, she would go south for the tests but she would not share her numbers with me but say, 'I am doing fine,'  Then she left work on a disability for the cancer.

Whenever I saw her in her yard working on her garden, I would stop and she would give me a hug and we would take about our kids and what we have been doing.  It was always such a pleasant meeting.  She would grill me on my kids and grandkids and then want updates our our students.  She would tell me about her kids, husband and the trips they were able to do.

Last week, I was at an end of the year gathering and I asked if Terry would be there and I was told she was doing poorly.  Another friend who had taken her to Hawaii with her family told me that she saw her that morning and she could be gone within hours, days or weeks.

All of her family had come to see her so I did not want to interfere and hoped for the best knowing it probably would be ending sooner than later.  She had hospice care and pain medication at the ready, which means that the end is near from my perspective.  Historically:  Once the people I know got to push a pain med button on demand, they died within days.

I saw her about a month ago.  She was walking by the school in an evening and she said Rich.  I went over to her and gave her a hug.  She was walking the dog.  She told me she got back from San Francisco about a week and a half before.  She said they found tumors in her brain and she had them zapped with lasers - poof, they were gone.  She said she left the zapping machine, was wheeled to the airport and flew to Seattle and back to Alaska.  She was up and about a day later.  She had high hopes and was impressed with the technology.

Terry Gonwa was a fighter, for herself, her family, her students and for society as a whole.  She was told she has 6 months to live 10 years ago and she said she had kids to raise and took on the cancer.
She wanted to see her kids through high school but leaves one in HS.

I saw Terry live her life with dignity and caring for others.  She helped teach me how to live my life.
Terry Gonwa also taught me how to die.

Rest in Peace my dear friend,  Terry Gonwa.  You will be missed.

Republicans LOSING POPULARITY!! New poll shows their unfavorables climbing

The number of Americans who view the Republican Party unfavorably has hit a record high, according to a new poll released by CNN on Monday, despite scandals that have plagued the White House over the past few weeks.

Another Teacher Hero - threw her body over kids during the tornado

"I was in a stall with some kids and it just started coming down, so I laid on top of them,'' she told Guthrie. "One of my little boys just kept saying, 'I love you, I love you, please don't die with me.'

On Tuesday, it looked like we had three possible political scandals brewing. Two days later, with much more evidence available, it doesn’t look like any of them will pan out.
Just a lot of hot air.

Oklahoma Congressmen kept voting AGAINST HELP FOR DISASTERS, now they need it!

Is GOD teaching them a lesson?  'Do unto others as they should do unto you?'

WASHINGTON -- As frantic rescue missions continued Monday in Oklahoma following the catastrophic tornadoes that ripped through the state, it appeared increasingly likely that residents who lost homes and businesses would turn to the federal government for emergency disaster aid. That could put the state's two Republican senators in an awkward position.
Sens. Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn, both Republicans, are fiscal hawks who have repeatedly voted against funding disaster aid for other parts of the country. They also have opposed increased funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which administers federal disaster relief.

HYPOCRITES:  In January of 2007, Coburn urged federal officials to speed disaster relief aid after the state faced a major ice storm.
A year later, in 2008, Inhofe lauded the fact that emergency relief from the Department of Housing and Urban Development would be given to 24 Oklahoma counties. "The impact of severe weather has been truly devastating to many Oklahoma communities across the state. I am pleased that the people whose lives have been affected by disastrous weather are getting much-needed federal assistance," he said at the time.

Republicans Question Whether President Obama could handle a real scandal.

“If this is how he handles this stuff, Lord have mercy on him if he ever has to deal with a real scandal,” said newly elected Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S. Carolina). “Quite frankly, I don’t think he has what it takes.”  from Andy Borowitz

Absurd Myth: More Guns make us safer

We know because tons of other countries have reduced their gun violence by reducing guns; Australia is the most recent example. Having a gun in your home makes you vastly more likely to take your own life. A 2006 study published in Public Health finds that, “the proportion of firearm suicides decreased simultaneously with the proportion of households owning firearms. This result is in line with the well-established association between availability of firearms at home and risk of firearm suicide.”

Weapons of Mass Distraction. Very Good information. Benghazi

The Republicans are using Weapons of Mass Distraction in regards to Benghazi

Forced Religion in a Public School

2 Girls file suit and get ridiculed.  These two young women are heroes.  We are supposed to have freedom of religion and a person should be able to choose whether or not they partake in religion and then choose the religion they are a part of.  By the way, anyone can pray at any time in a public school. They just quietly close their eyes, pray and move on with their day.  I know people who do this.

FBI and Homeland Security was too busy checking out the Occupy Movement to catch the Boston Bombers early.

The DHS, which spent billions of dollars on fusion centers like BRIC, has been accused of gathering “crap intelligence” and using federal anti-terrorism programs and resources to spy on nonviolent protesters exercising their First Amendment rights, rather than stopping terrorists. When they should have been investigating Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s extremist ties, the intelligence arm of the Boston Police Department was busy collecting information on peaceful antiwar activists from Code PINK and Veterans for Peace.

There was a big push by FOX and Conservatives to stomp on the Occupy Movement and the people in Homeland Security seemed to make Occupy Folks a priority.

A burgler incident

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.'

Startled, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yes', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he's watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people who would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

The 3 Scandals (Republican wording) are falling apart

The 3 Republican scandals DO NOT involved the White House or President or even the upper echelon officials in the agencies being accused of wrong-doing.  The more information that comes out, the less it looks like there is a scandal involving higher ups.

Top GOP Leaders are telling the crazies they are overplaying their hand.

Republicans are worried one thing could screw up the political gift of three Obama administration controversies at once: fellow Republicans.
Top GOP leaders are privately warning members to put a sock in it when it comes to silly calls for impeachment or over-the-top comparisons to Watergate. They want members to focus on months of fact-finding investigations — not rhetorical fury.

America's first climate change refugees are in Alaska

But exile is undeniable. A report by the US Army Corps of Engineers predicted that the highest point in the village – the school of Warner's nightmare – could be underwater by 2017. There was no possible way to protect the village in place, the report concluded.
If Newtok can not move its people to the new site in time, the village will disappear. A community of 350 people, nearly all related to some degree and all intimately connected to the land, will cease to exist, its inhabitants scattered to the villages and towns of western Alaska, Anchorage and beyond.

Citizen's United is an invitation to abuse of tax code!! Charlie Rangel

"So, you don't have to be a political expert to know that there was an increase in political donations given to 501(c)4s," Rangel continued. "So, again, it's almost an invitation as the law is written for abuse in terms of political activities for corporations that are primarily are supposed to be doing a social service work. Is that not correct?"
"It is something we have to look at closely, yes," Miller replied.
"I mean, you should have wanted to look at this earlier before this -- what my [Republican] friends want to call a scandal," Rangel insisted. "I mean, this is wrong to abuse the tax system. This screams out for tax reform.

The IRS favors the Richest - THE REAL SCANDAL

For all the outcry about targeting by ideology, IRS has for years unfairly favored a different group: the rich.

This has precedent within other parts of the IRS. According to data from the  Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University, IRS audits of the largest and richest corporations have  steadily declined since 2005, down 22 percent in the ensuing four years and  even more from 2011-2013. In the same period, the agency accelerated its scrutiny of small and midsize corporations. Since 2000, the IRS has been more likely to  audit the working poor, individuals and families making under $25,000 a year, than those making over $100,000 annually. The middle class received  disproportionately more auditsthroughout the past decade as well. An IRS unit formed in 2009 called the Global High Wealth Industry Group, designed to give special attention to tax compliance of high-wealth individuals, performed  exactly two audits in 2010 and 11 in 2011.

Billionaires now own American Politics

Obama is winning this battle, folks. He's outsmarted them YET AGAIN and they despise him for it.

The President has effectively cleared the air, and cleared the decks, all in one afternoon.  The GOP should have been more careful with what it wished for, because the President complied, and now we'll almost certainly watch them overplay their hand by moving the goalposts.

At least 6 dead in Texas Tornado

Officials say the tornadoes were unexpected. While they did expect serious storms, weather forecasters said it was "too cool" for tornadic activity. Not so, as it turned out:
A massive emergency response is under way in the Granbury area, where at least six people were killed and dozens injured by up to three tornadoes as a relentless storm system raked across North Texas on Wednesday evening.

Jon Stewart rips Rumsfeld and Cheney for their Benghazi criticism.

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart ripped into Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney on Wednesday for their sanctimonious criticism of the current administration, saying President Barack Obama’s transgressions didn’t resolve them of their own.
Stewart lamented that conservatives now had government scandals to be justifiably outraged about. Many right-wing commentators were downright orgiastic at all the bad news pummeling the President and his administration.

Boy with two moms bullied: He makes a statement

Arresting: A girl in class for falling asleep. Normal kid behavior becomes a

A major contributing factor to this crisis is the failed “zero tolerance” discipline program promoted by the Bush administration and still in force in school systems throughout the country.  Like its abstinence-only sex ed program, Bush policies made a serious issue worse.  The effort to enforce classroom discipline through the expulsion and punishment of students is an example of the moral absolutism propagated during much of the last few decades. It further extends the “school-to-prison pipeline” by aggressively incarcerating ever-younger children, particularly African-American and Hispanic youth.

Benghazi: Altered email because there is no real smoking gun. (Just pretend the altered email is real news)

Andrew Sullivan concluded:  “Just an early, failing attempt to smear Hillary for 2016. Because the GOP has no relevant policies for our times, just politics.”
We finally might have a real scandal here, but the scandal is over who is altering email to fabricate right wing attacks.

Benghazi: In Perspective Let's see: Blame for problems but never any credit for success

Of course, in reality (if that word has any meaning here), we should be investigating Benghazi in order to determine how we might better protect our people in the future.
That’s what responsible, mature, intelligent people would do.
That’s what those charged with the security of nation are enjoined to do. That’s the oath they swore and their solemn duty.
But obviously we’re not investigating what went wrong in Benghazi in order to reduce the likelihood of such an event again.
Look at the “investigators.” Look at the questions they’re asking. Look at the witnesses and those called before Congress. Look to the talking heads on the News. Look at the testimony. Nowhere is there any effort whatsoever to quantify lessons learned, to develop a better process, to update security procedures or embassy staffing or define security protocols.
Because, obviously, the investigation isn’t about that.
It’s not even about Barak Obama, except by default.
It’s about blame.
It’s about sour grapes.
It’s about bitter partisan driven revenge.
It’s about the last presidential election.

Nothing, and I mean nothing tells you who conservatives fear in 2016 more than this idiotic charade.

US Deficit is dropping faster than ANYTIME SINCE WWII. (Don't tell the Republicans, this might distract them from Benghazi)

The quickest way to reduce a deficit historically is JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.  That is, if people are working and more people are employed the more taxes are brought in and the deficit can be reduced.  So then the question becomes, what if we had a true, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS bill?  A bill like the one proposed by President Obama.  The economy would have taken off much faster is my guess.

The Mayflower Oil Spill continues to put Cancer Causing Benzine in the air for residents.

In his press conference, Attorney General McDaniels emphasized that benzene, a known carcinogen, has been detected inside some homes. “I have a real concern about the short- and long-term effects of carcinogens released into the air which are still detectable in the living rooms of people in that area.”
ExxonMobil has presented a plan to purchase eleven homes that were immediately impacted by the spill, at prices equal to an appraisal if the spill had never occurred. However, neighbors in the Mayflower subdivision, and those with property along the Lake Conway cove where dilbit has been discovered, have been offered no such deal. The company says it will compensate other residents for “all valid claims.” Attorney General McDaniels says that this plan does not go nearly far enough.
“I believe that Exxon should offer to purchase all the affected properties” in the Northwoods subdivision, as well as those near the cove, at a pre-spill appraisal price, McDaniel said.

GW Bush used the IRS, CIA, FBI to go after people. No outrage then, Whey the difference?

Unlike the noisy outrage that met today’s allegations of IRS misconduct under President Obama, these earlier – and well-documented – revelations of systemic IRS, Secret Service, FBI and CIA misconduct were met with a collective shrug of the shoulders in Washington. Sure, a few newspapers wrote about them, and a few Democratic lawmakers tried to raise questions about the Bush administration’s actions, but compared to today’s sound and fury over the IRS allegations, there was veritable silence. Indeed, as alluded to before, so little outrage was voiced about this kind of thing during the Bush years that a Fox News’ headline this week summarizing a Karl Rove interview blared: “What if IRS Under President Bush targeted liberal groups?” – as if that never actually happened…even though it most certainly did.
