Boston Bombers: Friends of theirs have al-Quida ties? Maybe

Reagan funded Bin Laden in his early years to help take out the corrupt government in Afghanistan.  Funding good guys who become bad guys after they get power and wealth is pretty common.  It probably happened with the Boston Bombers as well.  There may not be a direct connection with al-Quida but there is a decent chance that they had contact with others who were in the know of terrorist groups.

I would venture to guess that this was not the first time Mr. Ridge, first director of the US Department of Homeland Security, had heard Ruslan's messages. Ruslan founded the Congress of Chechen International Organizations and has lucrative work here in Kazakhstan as a USAID contractor and oil industry lawyer.
There is zero—and I mean zero—evidence that Uncle Ruslan or the CIA hired these two sad-ass kids in Boston to blow up their neighbors. The point here is that the FBI is too concerned about making sure that "no one else ought to know" about our government playing footsie with terrorists—and too unconcerned about the blow-back that blows up in Boston.

Economic Choices: The Elephant holding back the economy

Hurricane Katrina: The GW Bush History rewrite. (He forgot a few details)

So it should be noted that the level of urgency that`s on display inside Decision Point Theater was not so much on display when it came to the decider himself. This was President Bush, the morning that Katrina made land fall, sharing a cake with John McCain in Arizona. This was after his administration had already been informed that levees in New Orleans had been breached.
This was President Bush on day two of the disaster yakking it up with the country music star in southern California. That night as the situation was growing worse and worse in New Orleans, George W. Bush decided to return to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, to finish up his vacation.
When he finally headed back to D.C. the next day, President Bush got an aerial view of the damage in Louisiana and Mississippi. But by Friday, five days into that disaster, his aides at the White House were putting together DVDs of news coverage to convince President Bush how bad things were in New Orleans.

Mushroom Clouds, Collapsing Buildings, WHY WE NEED UNIONS!!

News reports tell us that more than 500 people have now died and more than 2,500 were injured in Savar, Bangladesh, while the toll in West, Texas stands at 15 dead and over 200 injured. Behind these two disasters is a common thread of greed - and a common need for unionized resistance.
"It was like a nuclear bomb went off," said the mayor as a mushroom cloud soared above his tiny Texas town. The explosion "ripped through three feet of concrete floor slab and then tore apart 10 additional feet of earth," scattering the wreckage more than 1,000 feet and leaving a blast crater is 93 feet wide.
This was the second mushroom cloud to be seen over Texas in recent years. The first was also a workplace explosion, at an oil refinery.

Unalaska Police Blotter

Assistance Rendered – Officer stopped a speeding driver and learned she was on her way to help an intoxicated friend who had cut himself while preparing food. She was unclear about the extent of the man’s injuries. The officer responded to the residence and found that the inebriated and impolite man had already bandaged his wounded digit.  The inebriate used language that made it quite clear that the officer was most unwelcome at his residence.

Rifles for 5 year olds: Why?

On Tuesday, a five-year-old boy in Kentucky accidentally shot and killed his two-year-old sister using a Crickett rifle that was made and marketed specifically for children.
The maker of the gun, Keystone Sporting Arms, markets its product with the slogan “My First Rifle.” Business has been booming for the company since its 1996 launch by father-son duo Bill and Steve McNeal, according to its website. In its first year, the company sold 4,000 rifles for kids, and by 2008 that number increased to 60,000 rifles. MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell explored this feat in his latest Rewrite segment.

REPUBLICANS: Making more mistakes?

Sure seems like the Republicans are creating their own problems.  Republicans have very low poll numbers,  they lost the last election (BIG), but they are doing the same old routine that lost them the election.  The Republican Civil War is a huge problem for them.

Jobs increase in April. Unemployment drops.

Just imagine what could happen if we passed a JOBS, JOBS, JOBS BILL and started rebuilding our infrastructure again.  We could even hire a few teachers and police officers to help move our society forward.  Just a thought.  (Of course, Republicans insist upon the cut, cut, cut budgets Austerity Budgeting which has halted progress and kept unemployment at 14 percent or higher.  Stupid plan but it is a plan.)

Guns: Think about it. A 5 year old with a cute little gun. "Just a crazy accident"

Let's be clear about one thing: The horrifying story of Caroline Sparks' death tells us, if nothing else, that certain corners of gun culture in America are f-ing nuts. Anyone who has known a five-year-old understands that giving one of them a functioning firearm is utterly insane. Don't give me any line about instilling proper respect for guns in children; at an age when a child doesn't have the dexterity to tie his own shoes, and lacks the impulse control to conclude that putting Krazy Glue on his lips might not be such a great idea, he shouldn't be allowed within 20 feet of a gun, supervised or not. Stories like this one may not be common, but they aren't all that unusual either. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control, in 2010, 62 American children aged 14 and under were killed by accidental discharge of firearms; 25 of those were under age 5. Two hundred and nineteen kids 14 and younger were intentionally murdered with guns, including 54 younger than 5. So Caroline Sparks wasn't the first, and she won't be the last.

SYRIA: DON'T INVADE!! Here is why

Obama learned from Iraq and Afghanistan that US military intervention in the Middle East doesn’t actually work very well. Iraq is still a security basket case, with over 400 dead in bombings and attacks in April (nowhere near the high of 3000 a month in 2006 when the US was in charge of security, or even as much as contemporary Mexico,  where over 1,000 a month have been dying in the drug war — but still no paradise). It has been 11 years and we are still stuck in Afghanistan, nor have we “stood up” a credible Afghan government.

Sen. John McCain argues for an aerial intervention, which more or less worked in Libya. But Syria is not like Libya in any way.
Syria’s weapons depots, tanks and artillery are not out in some desert where they can be bombed with few casualties. They are in the cities. Bombing them would kill a lot of innocent civilians. Even just trying to take out the large number of anti-aircraft batteries (the essential first step of any aerial intervention) would be very costly in lives.

Drone Victim: Killing with Drones is a good recruitment tool for al-Quida

Al-Arshani’s house was the first drone strike I ever visited. I interviewed most of the survivors. I visited them almost a month after the strike, and I still found a few pieces of his house. It is one of the places in Yemen where most civilians were killed ever [as a result of a drone strike]. Whether Al-Arshani was part of al-Qaida or not, the U.S. killed 24 innocent Yemenis. They could have been more efficient and accurate with their strike — at least if this policy was well thought out.

A lot of people after 9/11, all around the world, hated al-Qaida, because they did a terrorist attack and killed innocent people.

School fires armed guards and hires art and dance teachers - GAINS FINALLY!!

The school was plagued by violence and disorder from the start, and by 2010 it was rank in the bottom five of all public schools in the state of Massachusetts.

That was when Andrew Bott — the sixth principal in seven years — showed up, and everything started to change.

“We got rid of the security guards,” said Bott, who reinvested all the money used for security infrastructure into the arts.
But now, three years later, the school is almost unrecognizable. Brightly colored paintings, essays of achievement, and motivational posters line the halls. The dance studio has been resurrected, along with the band room, and an artists’ studio.

The end result? Orchard Gardens has one of the fastest student improvement rates statewide. And

Right Wing Republicans are just paranoid

The Right Wing Nuts have a bill for the US Govt to stop collecting census data and job information about people

The core issue is something called the American Community Survey, which the Census Bureau uses as a supplemental to the decennial reports, providing information on commuting, income, family structure, educational attainment, housing, and finance. The results are used extensively by businesses, researchers, academics, and government agencies, and have been an invaluable tool for decades.
Right-wing lawmakers, however, have come to believe nefarious government officials are collecting the information as part of a larger scheme -- it's never been entirely clear to me what they see as the point of the plot -- that must be stopped.

Rep Kelly Ayotte squirms when asked about NO VOTE ON GUN CONTROLS

At town halls across New Hampshire, gun safety advocates are confronting Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) for voting down bipartisan legislation expanding background checks for gun purchases. In April, Ayotte joined 45 senators to oppose the measure, which is supported by more than 90 percent of Americans, claiming that she was trying to protect gun shop owners from the burden of running additional background checks for sales conducted at gun shows or online.

NOTE;  The bill proposed specifically made tracking guns illegal and you could go to prison for setting up a system to track guns.  Ayotte lied about what the bill did actually.

A Reserved Seat in Hell - Juanita Jean

Please meet 72 year old Kenneth Henry of Proctor, Texas.
Kenneth Henry is one of those guys who makes the devil gleeful.  He owns Henry’s Turkey Service, a business operating in Iowa and other states.
Henry is a slave owner.
He testified that over the decades, Henry’s sent 1,500 mentally disabled men to labor camps in seven states, including Iowa camps in Spirit Lake, Ellsworth and Atalissa.
These men we paid 41 cents an hour and housed in deplorable conditions in a rat infested converted bunkhouse where some were tortured and at least one froze to death.
Henry, of course, is a Christian man.

Pat Toomey: Gun control: Senators voted NO because they DID NOT WANT TO HELP THE PRESIDENT

The TRUTH is finally revealed.  Republican Pat Toomey let the cat out of the bag.  Forget that idea of what is best for the people.

Thank you, Mr. Republican, for finally saying it out loud. Everyone has known it but no one would say it out loud. I hope this remark doesn't just disappear at the start of tomorrow's news cycle - this needs to be talked about. That remark could be the end of this guy's political career. Or maybe it will make a hero out of him - I don't know. Will the American public finally put it's foot down with this do-nothing Congress? It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Armed Revolution: About Half of Republicans think it might be necessary

There’s plenty of proof of an authoritarian streak and animus toward democratic ideals in today’s conservative movement. There was the movement’s use of its judicial power to halt a vote recount and instead  install a president who had lost the popular vote. There is the ongoing GOP effort to make it  more difficult for people to cast a vote in an election. There is the GOP’s  record use of the Senate filibuster to kill legislation that the vast majority of the country supports. There is a GOP leader’s declaration that what the American people want from their government simply  “doesn’t matter.”

this morning Fairleigh Dickinson University released this gun control-related pollshowing that authoritarianism runs throughout the the entire party.
Take a look at the cross-tabs on  page 3 of the national survey. That’s right, you are reading it correctly: Almost half (44 percent) of all self-described Republican voters say they believe “an armed revolution might be necessary to protect our liberties.” Just as bad, more Republicans believe an armed revolution might be necessary than believe one isn’t necessary.

That Turkey Burger could make you sick or even Kill You!!

OK, meat eaters, do you want the good news or the bad news first? Hey, I know! I’ll start with the bad news: In a just-released study, Consumer Reports tested 257 samples of ground turkey from supermarkets, and found that virtually every one was contaminated with either fecal bacteria, staph, or salmonella. Even worse, most of the fecal bacteria were resistant to one or more antibiotics important to human medicine.

HE CRAPPED HIS PANTS FOR WEEKS TO GET OUT OF THE ARMY! Now, he is an expert on the military?

Ted Nugent got a draft notice during Vietnam.  I did too.  TED SHITE HIMSELF FOR A MONTH BEFORE GOING TO HIS PHYSICAL!  He was declared unfit for service.  I got drafted and served because I would never consider doing such a thing.

In interviews, Nugent has provided varying accounts of how he avoided a seat on a troop transport to Southeast Asia. In a 1977 High Times interview, he claimed to have stopped bathing a month before his draft physical, adding that he showed up for the exam with pants “crusted” with urine and feces. “I was a walking, talking hunk of human poop,” recalled Nugent.

In his High Times interview, Nugent recalled his glee at evading the chance to defend his country (though he mixed up the 1-Y and 4-F deferments). “And in the mail I got this big juicy 4-F,” he said. “They’d call dead people before they’d call my ass.”

Now, Ted Nugent  plays himself as all knowing about the Military.  Ted Nugent is full of crap.  Soldiers are committing suicide because they have witness horrendous killings and destruction of people and property and then are going home to no jobs.  Ted Nugent has no right to talk about the military and the problems which they face.  Wars create suicides.  Those suicides were a big issue during the GW Bush years as well.

Jon Stewart takes apart GOP War Mongers on Syria

Muslim US Army Reservist attacked and jaw broken by an Anti-Muslim White Guy

Salim said that Dahlberg left the cab, but then returned and broke his jaw before running into the woods.
Dahlberg was charged with misdemeanor assault and police are determining if charges should be elevated to a felony hate crime. The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Monday said that medical records and the 11-minute cell phone recording were being used as evidence in the case.

Salim is a naturalized U.S. citizen and is an Army Reserve sergeant who has worked in intelligence and as a linguist. He served in Iraq and at the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
"I sacrificed for this country," Salim told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday. "And I myself was fighting the terrorists and I'm against acts of violence. I'm not a terrorist. I'm not a jihadist. I'm American like you."

WAR TAX? Syria: The Neocons insist we start a war in Syria, (North Korea and/or Iran)

WAR TAX:  We have spent 10 years putting 2 wars on credit cards.  My suggestion: IF WE GET INVOLVED IN ANOTHER WAR - START A WAR TAX AND PAY FOR THE WAR AS WE GO!!  Enough of the War on Credit Cards. If a war is worth fighting, it is worth paying for. I DO NOT MEAN TAKE AWAY PEOPLE'S SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE OR HEALTH CARE TO PAY FOR A WAR!  An actual Tax to pay for THE NEW WAR(S) and to pay for Iraq and Afghanistan as well.

I just think it is irresponsible to insist on wars without a funding source for it.

The Right Wing Cult Machine: Rush and his ilk

, Luntz was saying that the right-wing media and its cult following are not serving the national political debate and not helping the Republican Party widen its appeal beyond its declining base of aging boomer cultists.

And perhaps, most importantly, real media doesn't fear or hate our government, and certainly doesn't suggest we should be armed and ready to attack our own government.
Sadly, that cult is coming dangerously close to having complete control over the Republican Party and much of the political discourse in our country.
Thankfully, people are waking up and recognizing the far right-wing media for what it is: a cult.
