Zimmerman Trial: Innocent of 2nd degree murder? Did the State lose the case already?

The answer is simple. In order to win a conviction on second-degree murder, the prosecution had to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that George Zimmerman's conduct revealed "a depraved mind" without regard for human life. It has failed to do so.
The problem with the prosecution's case is that there was never enough evidence to prove that George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin "because he wanted to," as prosecutor John Guy claimed at the beginning of the trial.
What makes matters even more complicated is that the state's witnesses weren't able to shine a coherent light on the events that preceded the shooting on the night of February 26, 2012.
"There are significant weaknesses in the state's case — most importantly conflicting eyewitness accounts which themselves create reasonable doubt as to what happened that night," said Elizabeth Parker, a former Florida prosecutor.
Even worse, some of the prosecution's key witnesses gave testimony that damaged the state's case. John Good, a resident of the Florida community where the shooting took place, gave testimony that would suggest that Martin had the upper hand in the struggle that occurred before Zimmerman took out his gun.

A woman and her doctor should make the decision about abortion! The facts speak for themselves.

And what if poll respondents were told about the "elective abortion" of Danielle Deaver, a Nebraska woman who, at 22 weeks, was forced to watch her premature child suffocate as a result of Nebraska’s misguided “fetal pain" law:

Deaver, 34, and her husband planned the pregnancy and wanted a second child, she said.
Their dreams ended tragically when they learned, shortly before the premature birth, that the pregnancy could not go to term and that the fetus had virtually no chance to survive. She was in her 22nd week of pregnancy when her water broke…
…Doctors said there was less than a 10 percent chance the fetus would have a heartbeat and the capacity to breathe at birth. If it lived, there was perhaps a 2 percent chance that it  ever would be able function on the most basic level.

After consulting with doctors, the Deavers decided it would be more humane to terminate the pregnancy than to allow the child to be born, merely to suffer for a few brief moments before dying after birth.  Nebraska’s anti-abortion law, however, prevented that from happening:

…After consulting attorneys, doctors told Deaver and her husband that the Nebraska law prohibited an abortion in their case. She had to wait, give birth, and watch the infant die.
Nebraska’s new abortion law forced Danielle Deaver to live through ten excruciating days, waiting to give birth to a baby that she and her doctors knew would die minutes later, fighting for breath that would not come.
And that’s what happened. The one-pound, ten-ounce girl, Elizabeth, was born December 8th. Deaver and husband Robb watched, held and comforted the baby as it gasped for air, hoping she was not suffering. She died 15 minutes later.

This is what happens when you place the government between women and the decision to abort a child at any point during the pregnancy.  Kirsten Powers and the “majority" of Americans who oppose elective late-terms abortions are probably only thinking of situations where a healthy baby is being terminated by a feckless mother, for whom the thought of raising a child is a mere “inconvenience."  But it’s not always that simple.  Powers et al. apparently can’t conceive of a situation where a doctor might refuse to perform an otherwise legitimate abortion out of fear of being subject to scrutiny by law enforcement.  Or a situation where the supposedly “elective" nature of an abortion forces a mother and father to watch their premature child die the second it is born, like Danielle Deaver and her husband.
No abortion law, no matter how carefully drafted, can possibly account for every situation in which a woman who carries a pregnancy past 20 weeks might have a legitimate reason to seek an abortion.  Medical science is not exact, and situations always arise where the risk of death or serious injury—to either mother or fetus—is nebulous enough to make doctors hesitant.  Furthermore, not every pregnancy complication is discovered prior to 20 weeks of gestation.  To assume that this cut-off point is somehow appropriate or “backed by scientific advancement" is ludicrous.

Mr. Smith has agreed to provide, within 5 days, the statement of David Chaney concerning the allegation that Todd Palin introduced him to Shailey Tripp and the assertion that he engaged in sexual relations for money with Shailey Tripp. In consideration for the voluntary production of this information, I have agreed not to file suit, and for a period of 6 months to refrain from filing any new FOIA requests with the Secret Service or Homeland Security pertaining to David Chaney, Shailey Tripp, Sarah Palin, and Todd Palin.

OIL SPILL - 42000 Gallons in Montana on an Indian Reservation

A Phillips 66 pipeline that broke twice in 1997 spilled 42,000 gallons of gasoline on the Crow Reservation in southeastern Montana this week, officials said.
The leak from the 8-inch underground pipeline was detected Wednesday when workers from Phillips 66 Co., based in Houston, found the pressure on the line had dropped, NBC News reported.
A U.S. Department of Transportation spokesman said the leak, which occurred about 15 miles from Lodge Grass, Mont., was under investigation but posed no immediate safety threat to the public and did not immediately affect any waterways.

Apparently, we underestimated the depth of the House GOP’s hatred of poor people food stamps. It used to be “hold your nose and vote for it” hatred. But now it’s Bible-misquoting, poison-pill-amendment-sponsoring, throw-out-the-baby-with-the-bathwater hatred. (Message for the House GOP: I do not think the “War on Poverty” means what you think it means.)
The House GOP’s second-in-command, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), is leading the charge to split the bill, but getting nutrition funding out of the farm bill is a longstanding priority of conservatives — one conservative House Republican referred to the “unholy alliance” between the farm lobby and the anti-hunger lobby. The last thing in the world farmers should be worrying about is feeding people, right?
The irony, of course, is that American farm policy is now as much, if not more, about supporting fuel, feed, and fiber products — corn and soy for livestock and ethanol, along with cotton for clothing — as it is about food. This fact, however, is more coincidence than strategy as far as the House GOP is concerned.

TEXAS; TOWN EXPLODES Killing 12 RESULT: REGULATE VAGINAS!!!!

In West, Texas a Fertilizer Plant exploded two months ago because it ignored regulations.  12 Dead and 200 injured was the result.  About half the town was blown up too.

Wendy Davis' filibuster of the abortion bill on procedural grounds, told the New York Times that lawmakers should be wary of monitoring chemical plants more closely because there's "a point at which you can overregulate."

Maybe if pro-choice activists really want to stop Texas from regulating clinics they should just start calling them "fertilizer plants."

Today's Republican Party is the living embodiment of what happens when you do not provide sex education to children. From the idea that women won't know what a pregnancy is unless an elderly male politician rapes them by proxy with an ultrasound wand to conservative women believing that a rape kit is a kind of uterine Drano, the ignorance is simple human reproduction on the right is simply appalling. The problem is that now their ignorance is extending to the people they represent when they are in government.

Ohio's new anti-abortion law bestows full personhood on a fertilized egg that has not yet implanted. Clearly the Republicans in Ohio's legislature who passed this travesty haven't got a clue about how pregnancy occurs. There is no pregnancy until the egg implants into the uterine wall, because up to half of all fertilized eggs never implant. There are many reasons for this, some of them having to do with the effects of the Pill and the IUD (which would under Ohio law become instruments of murder in a way that a gun, for some reason, is not), and some having to do with just plain nature -- God's will, if you prefer.

Some of the women whose fertilized eggs never implant in the uterus know about it -- because the egg implants in the fallopian tube instead. Ohio's law would have the perhaps unintended effect of making removal of an ectopic pregnancy a crime of murder, even though an ectopic pregnancy can never become a baby.

It’s attitudes like this that keep white Southerners from understanding that year after year, decade after decade, they support policies that don’t help them. “Rank-and-file southern voters—who have lower average incomes than other Americans—resoundingly defeated Barack Obama in 2008; the eventual president carried just 10, 11, and 14 percent of the white vote in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana respectively,” Thompson writes. “An influential percentage of poor, uneducated, underserved, insurance-less white southerners continue to cast votes for candidates whose agendas clearly conflict with their own self interest.” What Thompson doesn’t do—what I’ve never seen anyone do—is offer a valid explanation for why white Southerners ally themselves with the party that treats them contemptuously. 

Whites in the South overwhelmingly support right-to-work laws, which Thompson defines, correctly, as “the Orwellian euphemism for ‘the right for companies to disregard the welfare of their workers.’ ” According to a 2009 survey by Grand Valley State University, annual salaries for autoworkers in Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina averaged about $55,400, while their counterparts in Michigan averaged $74,500. Thompson notes that Southern blue-collar workers also have “inferior health and pension plans, less job security, higher risk of being fired for trivial reasons, and diminished safety precautions. … ”

Working Poor are Demonized to justify cuts to VITAL Food Programs.

Greg Kaufmann, poverty correspondent for The Nation, says the poor in America are stereotyped and demonized in an effort to justify huge cuts in food stamps and other crucial programs for low-income Americans.
“People are working and they’re not getting paid enough to feed their families, pay their utilities, pay for their housing, pay for the healthcare… if you’re not paying people enough to pay for the basics, they’re going to need help getting food,” Kaufmann tells Bill Moyers. “There are a lot of corporations that want to be involved in the fight against hunger. The best thing they can do is get on board for fair wages.”

Paula Deen - lots of racist accusations in court

Here are a few of the allegations, and I'm only picking a few and restricting my selection to racial discrimination, not sexual.   The point is to expose the timidity of the media in their handling of this case.

Note:  Bubba Hiers is Paula Deen's brother and the locations are all businesses under the Paula Deen business empire.

"52.  At Uncle Bubba’s restaurant, African-American staff persons are required to use the back entrance for all purposes, including picking up their checks.  they were prohibited from using the front entrance.

53.  African-American staff persons at Uncle Bubba’s restaurant are required to use one restroom that is in the back of the restaurant and is not the customer restroom.  White staff was allowed to use the customer bathroom.

55.  Ms. Jackson hired two African-American hostesses.  Their position required them to be stationed in the front of the restaurant.  Bubba Hiers complained repeatedly about one hostess being out front and she was later fired for allegedly stealing a white customer’s purse.  The police were called and the young woman was searched, but she was not arrested and no charges were brought.  Mr. Hiers demanded that the other African-American hostess be moved to a position in the back of the restaurant where she could not be seen by customers.

I don’t care how mankind existed in the past. We today don’t live in ancient Mesopotamia. Let me see Gohmert-Gohmert give up his running water and electricity, live in a mud hut for a while (without AC), and ride a mule to work, and then maybe I’ll take his statements about how mankind used to exist as a little less hypocritical (though still very quaint). After all, it’s no more fair to force the Gohmerts to enjoy the luxuries of modern life than it is to force Poor Innocent Children to (gasp!) get some evidence-based education about their bodies.
And speaking of mud huts: most of mankind existed for a pretty long time without Mommy and Daddy having their own bedroom with reasonably sound-muffling walls. For most of history, most families lived in a single room, usually sharing that room with their animals, and usually with only one bed (if that). Close relatives always stayed together. And that means, of course, that children learned about sex by watching Mom and Dad go at it regularly, because Mom and Dad regularly did it in front of them.

Immigration Bill puts Billions into Defense Contractors Pockets

The legislation would require the U.S. Border Patrol to acquire, among other items, six Northrop Grumman airborne radar systems that cost $9.3 million each, 15 Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopters that average more than $17 million apiece, and eight light enforcement helicopters made by American Eurocopter that sell for about $3 million each.
The legislation also calls for 17 UH-1N helicopters made by Bell Helicopter, an older model that the company no longer manufactures.

NC sneaks in a bill to stop abortions - REPUBLICANS GET CALLED OUT

As Rachel reported tonight, Republicans in the North Carolina are trying to sneak a set of anti-abortion measures into a bill ostensibly about Sharia Law in family courts. Below is North Carolina State Senator Martin Nesbitt's full reaction to the revelation of what his Republican colleagues are up to. Nesbitt said, in part:

We have a state full of people out there that don't even know we're doing this. And let me tell you what I think you're doing to them.

I think the provision having to do with ambulatory care centers is going to do away with health care as we know it for women who need help. And there are going to be more of them, not less of them. When you force these things in the ambulatory surgical centers, planned parenthood has four centers in the state -- none of them comply. Out of business. Nobody told us that in committee.  I scurried around and got that information myself.

OHIO:  They put a VERY RESTRICTIVE ABORTION BILL AND CHANGED THE TERM FOR CONCEPTION into a Budget Bill so they could forgo the questions and quietly allow it to pass.  Raped women, incest victims or when the woman/s life is in danger now have less options in Ohio.

Mississippi: 53,000 with no Health Care Options! No Private Insurer wants to pick up the poor.

This is why we need a public option.  Private Insurance Companies can decide to pick up an area or not, the Privates have decided they DO NOT WANT TO INSURE the counties in Mississippi with the poorest of the poor.

San Diego CHALKER FOUND INNOCENT!!

He chalked negative comments about Bank of America and was looking at 13 years  in prison.  This trial was a waste of time!  NO B OF A EXECUTIVES had to go to court regarding the melting down of our economy - What a sad commentary that this case even made it to court.

Common sense and sanity prevailed - perhaps unexpectedly - in San Diego today.  Now Bank of America can go back to defrauding America the old fashioned way, instead of demanding that the courts do their dirty work for them.

A 40-year-old man was acquitted Monday of 13 misdemeanor vandalism charges that stemmed from protest messages written in chalk in front of three Bank of America branches in San Diego. Jeffrey David Olson's attorney argued during the trial -- which garnered national attention -- that his client was engaging in a legal protest and was not maliciously defacing of property.
