From what I read, King Island is brutal. The winds are constant and fierce, the houses and the people who lived there were in constant fear for their lives from the weather. The fishing was great as was finding Walrus. I believe it is abandoned mostly now. Some go back to visit but no one really stays.
These pictures are pretty amazing. When I lived in a remote village, they talked about the real remote of King Island.
