Sharpshooter takes on Open Carry Guns
http://m.chron.com/opinion/outlook/article/Sharpshooter-takes-aim-at-open-carry-6110845.php
The mentality of many gun owners today is a far cry from what I knew growing up. What is heard from open-carry fans seems to be a fascination with guns - a swagger-inspired fascination that possessing a pistol in a public forum will make everyone safe. The chutzpah of open-carry advocates: We will be the protecters against the bad guy!
But I wonder: When the bullets fly, will police know who is the good
guy? Maybe one will be a hero and then again maybe not when others pull
their guns and begin to fire. Hero-seekers are a danger to themselves
and others.
What I will not be comfortable with if open carry becomes law in Texas, as some state lawmakers are proposing, is encountering a gun carrier in a restaurant sporting a holstered 9mm with an extended magazine. I will wonder: Is this person really licensed, or is he an unlicensed bad guy casing the premises to commit crime or an act of terror? Is he of a proper mental state or has his mental health changed since he was licensed? Does he properly maintain and clean his weapon as required? Is his weapon housing a chambered round? When was the last time he qualified on a firing range? Can he really be trusted to take on the gut-wrenching task he obviously seeks? Should the business owner check the licenses and qualifications of gun-holstered patrons before allowing them to enter armed?

Another Crude Oil 'Bomb Train' explodes
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/03/06/1368979/-Yet-another-crude-oil-bomb-train-goes-boom-this-time-in-Illinois-Regulations-clearly-inadequate
Six cars of a 105-car train carrying crude oil derailed near Galena, Illinois, Thursday. Two cars caught fire and burned throughout the night. The train was carrying gassy oil from the Bakken Shale formation of North Dakota where an economic boom in the production of oil pried from rock by hydraulic fracking has boosted domestic oil production to levels not seen since 1970. In 2008, oil by rail barely made a statistical blip, with 9,500 carloads moved. In 2014, the number exceeded 500,000 rail cars of crude.
The derailment took place near the Iowa border where the Galena and Mississippi rivers come together. Galena was once the home of Ulysses S. Grant and is today a tourist destination of about 3,200 residents. Authorities urged people up to a mile away to evacuate, but only one family did. No injuries were reported.
The carrier, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, issued a statement:
At this time, we do not know the cause of the derailment. In addition to the railroad employees currently on the scene, additional BNSF personnel arrived soon after the event occurred to be part of the response. BNSF is working with local responders and has notified the Federal Railroad Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board of the incident. BNSF also promptly notified various local and state officials from Illinois and Iowa. [...]

When a U.S. federal judge - an appointee of George W. Bush, no less - ruled in favor of marriage equality in Alabama, Judge Roy Moore didn't take it lying down. The chief justice of the state supreme court in this reddest of red states immediately blasted out this furious letter to all the state's probate courts, which issue marriage licenses, ordering that "no probate judge of the State of Alabama nor any agent or employee of any Alabama probate judge shall issue or recognize a marriage license that is inconsistent" with the state's same-sex marriage ban. Moore used even more brazen language in a separate letter to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, cited by the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Moore used even more brazen language in a separate letter to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, cited by the Southern Poverty Law Center:
"As you know, nothing in the United States Constitution grants the federal government the authority to redefine the institution of marriage... The laws of this state have always recognized the Biblical admonition stated by our Lord... Today the destruction of that institution is upon us by federal courts using specious pretexts based on the Equal Protection, Due Process, and Full Faith and Credit Clauses of the United States Constitution... I stand with you to stop judicial tyranny and any unlawful opinions issued without constitutional authority."This was blatantly illegal, as state courts can't overrule federal courts under the U.S. Constitution's Supremacy Clause. Nevertheless, Moore's decree led to chaos all over the state. Some probate courts ignored him and followed the federal ruling; others refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples; and still others closed entirely, preventing anyone from obtaining a marriage license. (The Ku Klux Klan issued a rousing statement of support for Moore.)

IT IS ALMOST CRIMINAL WHAT THEY DO TO PRESIDENT: OBAMA Merle Haggard
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/03/05/1368652/-Merle-Haggard-To-Rolling-Stone-It-s-Almost-Criminal-What-They-Do-To-President-Obama?detail=facebook
A Merle Haggard quote has been circulating social media over the last two days, almost as if it appeared in response to the incredible disrespect shown to President Obama by Republicans in Congress and foreign leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. The quote is from a 2010 Rolling Stone interview. Patrick Doyle spoke with music legend Merle Haggard, who was attending the 33rd Kennedy Center Honors. Haggard was invited to the White House to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Doyle asked Merle Haggard about President Obama, and the traditional 'stone-country' singer-songwriter said he enjoyed meeting Obama and found the President to be quite different from what he had seen in the media. That's when Haggard interestingly added:
Merle Haggard: "It's really almost criminal what they do with our President. There seems to be no shame or anything. They call him all kinds of names all day long, saying he's doing certain things that he's not. It's just a big old political game that I don't want to be part of.

To Netanyahu: A letter from a US Liberal
http://mindy-fischer-writer.com/2015/03/a-message-to-netanyahu-from-an-american-liberal/
Dear Mr. Netanyahu….
I know that to much of the world Americans are known for being rather stupid. But at the risk of ruining our infamous reputation I probably should tell you that actually most of us can clearly see that your whole production of speaking to a joint session of our Congress on Tuesday was really nothing more than political theater. And we also fully recognize that your little Republican-encouraged stunt was quite simply a desperate attempt to manipulate Israeli voters just two weeks before your next election by using the U.S. as a political pawn.
Though whether you realize this or not Bibi, you have also been manipulated. Because you see the Republicans who so enthusiastically plotted your visit and Congressional address were actually not the least bit interested in your opinions on our negotiations with Iran. Their main objective and the only reason they invited you here was to use you to satisfy the one thing that ultimately drives every single thing they ever do…undermining and trying to sabotage President Obama.
Now I will give you some credit for personally demonstrating to all of us that your Chutzpah apparently knows no bounds. I mean the fact that you literally stood before our Congress and the American people by way of a secret deal schemed up with Republicans, and blatantly insulted our President while insisting to us that the Israeli-U.S. alliance “must remain above politics” really gave a whole new meaning to extraordinarily huge balls.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented his concerns about a nuclear deal with Iran. But the country portrayed by Netanyahu resembled a comic-book villain more than a nation engaged in intense nuclear negotiations with the P5+1, and in efforts to push back ISIL’s advances in Iraq.
While rejecting the developing nuclear deal and urging Congress to push for a “better deal,” Netanyahu provided scant details about how a “better deal” might be reached with a country he compared to “clutching Israel with three tentacles of terror,” a “deadly game of thrones,” the “Persian potentate” and holding a “voracious appetite for aggression.”
This isn’t the first time Netanyahu has lobbied Congress with dire warnings of security threats in the Middle East.
In 1995, Netanyahu wrote that Iran would have a nuclear weapon in “three to five years,” and, in 1996, speaking before a joint session of Congress, he warned that the deadline for Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon was “getting extremely close.”
Those predictions, while terrifying, were also inaccurate.

It is Man Made Disasters, not GOD, who is making our environment much worse.

Money, Money, Money
Manmade global warming is one such issue, and our stubborn refusal to acknowledge it for what it is —a frighteningly real phenomenon and the shameful byproduct of human greed—makes us look like total idiots to those with whom we would share the good news of Christ.
Manmade (as opposed to naturally occurring) global warming has been so thoroughly, unquestionably, irrefutably documented that arguing its existence with an entrenched climate denier is like trying to convince a toddler that the sky is blue when he is absolutely certain it is pink. In short: a total waste of time.
Despite the tonnage of evidence, an astonishing number of evangelicals choose (quite willfully) to believe that manmade global warming is nothing but a "liberal hoax," apparently designed to undercut oil company profits. Which begs the question: Why would anyone wish ill on oil companies? They're so lovable.
The larger question, of course, is: Why would anyone believe the pseudo-scientific snake oil put out by climate deniers like U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla), who famously declared global warming to be the "greatest hoax ever”? And how, in Heaven's name, can an educated man like Inhofe believe his own drivel, if indeed he does?

Iranians on the street talk about Bibi's speech
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/03/03/iran-on-netanyahu-congressional-speech/
There’s been a lot of talk and hubbub around Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Tuesday address before Congress, but what does Iran think of the matter? CNN sent Frederik Pleitgen to Tehran to find out.
Pleitgen’s coverage states that Netanyahu’s speech didn’t get too much live coverage in the Iranian capital, and that’s far from surprising. Regardless, many Iranians did follow what Netanyahu said in his speech, and they were not too thrilled with the content.

While many Iranians are optimistic about Iran’s nuclear prospects, others remain skeptical.

-1. Israel’s continued program of flooding its own citizens into the Occupied Palestinian West Bank is a serious war crime for which the country may yet be charged at the International Criminal Court. The illegal colonization of the West Bank sets the Muslim world, of 1.5 billion persons, against Israel. The Muslim world won’t be weak and ineffectual forever, and Netanyahu is undermining Israel’s future by constantly increasing the number of Israeli squatters on Palestinian land.
-2. Israel’s continued de facto opposition to Palestinian statehood leaves Palestinians stateless and without the rights of citizenship, or indeed, any basic human rights– to their own property, to freedom of movement to hospitals or shopping, to water and other resources, to peaceable assembly and protest– in short, to basic human rights.
-3. Israel now has al-Qaeda on its border in the Golan Heights. The rebel Jabhat al-Nusra or Support Front, which holds the Golan, has declared allegiance to Ayman al-Zawahiri and al-Qaeda central. Mr. Netanyahu does not seem perturbed by this development, even though al-Qaeda is a brutal and highly destructive terrorist group that killed nearly 3,000 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis and Syrians.
-4. Syria and Israel share a long common border. Syria is in civil war and governmental collapse, and half of Syrians have been displaced from their homes, four million abroad. The potential for radicalization here is enormous, as the rise of ISIL demonstrates. Yet Israel has done nothing, repeat nothing, to ISIL.

Jon Stewart: Republicans gave Netanyahu the longest bl*w job a jewish man has ever received

on Stewart opened The Daily Show on Tuesday by mocking the Republican-heavy Congress for giving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not just a warm welcome, but nearly 20 minutes of applause for his much-ballyhooed appearance.
“Whether or not Netanyahu achieved his goals of sabotaging a deal with Iran or mistakenly opened up a rift in U.S.-Israeli relations, one thing is certain,” Stewart observed. “The in-chamber response to this speech was by far the longest bl*wjob a Jewish man has ever received.”

A Scientist Joins the Science Committee in Congress - Such a Novel Idea?

And now for a bit of good news.
The only PhD-level physicist in Congress, Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) announced that he is finally being assigned to the House science committee.
For many years Foster had focused his time on reforming banking and finance after the 2008 financial collapse. However, in the irony to end all ironies, Foster attributes Republican gridlock in Congress as what is giving him the free time to shift gears and fight for science instead.
“Congress is now seized in gridlock, and that made the Financial Services Committee a smaller drain on my time and my staff’s time,” he told Science Insider.
In other words, Republicans in Congress have made passing any legislation so impossible that Foster is able to throw himself into promoting science instead.

Nancy Pelosi on the BiBi speech. Very Good.

So where would that leave things? Netanyahu argues that if the U.S. walked away, Iran would eventually capitulate on everything; the “better deal” he imagined is one in which Iran does everything short of dismantling its government. He had nothing to say about why this might happen if we weren’t negotiating, other than that we should “keep up the pressure.” That’s his alternative: Do nothing, and instead of just going ahead and developing nuclear weapons, Iran will see the light and completely reverse everything it’s been doing. To call that position “absurd” is too kind. You don’t have to be some kind of foreign policy whiz to grasp that there’s something weird about arguing that 1) Iran is a nation run by genocidal maniacs; 2) they want nuclear weapons so they can annihilate Israel; and 3) the best way to stop this is to abandon negotiations to limit their nuclear program and just wait to see what they do. But that’s the position Netanyahu and his supporters in the Republican Party are now committed to.1:05 PM PT: Here's the real irony: while Bibi is over here touting the Iranian threat as an existential crisis, 90% of Israelis just shrug their shoulders. The Times of Israel released a poll a few weeks ago on the upcoming Knesset elections. It asked respondents which issue mattered to them most. 48% said economic issues. 19% said relations with the Palestinians. 14% said education. The "existential" threat from Iran came in fourth at 10%.

SNBC host Chris Matthews on Tuesday blasted Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives for assisting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an attempt to “take over” U.S. foreign policy from President Barack Obama.
“I’ll get to the heart of this speech now,” Matthews told MSNBC’s Thomas Robertson. “This man from a foreign government walked into the United States legislative chamber and tried to take over U.S. foreign policy. He said, ‘You should trust me, not your president on this. I am the man you should trust, I am your true leader on this question of U.S. geopolitics. To protect yourself, you must listen to me and not this president.’”
“It was a startling situation,” he continued. “To allow someone to come in — knowing that was going to be their message — to the U.S. Congress. This was a decision made by Boehner and certainly complied with by Netanyahu and his ambassador [Ron Dermer]. They went into the U.S. Congress to take over U.S. foreign policy from the president.”

Right Wing terrorists more dangerous in US than Islamic Jihadists - NEW STUDY
http://www.ringoffireradio.com/2015/03/far-right-radicals-are-more-violent-than-islamic-jihadists-in-america-study-finds/
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) published a study illustrating that right-wing extremists have caused more violence in America than domestic “jihadis,” reported Vice News.
The SPLC’s report duly noted the tragedy of 9/11, where international jihadists killed over 3,000 Americans in a single attack. However, since that day, the SPLC found that “A large number of independent studies have agreed that since the 9/11 mass murder, more people have been killed in America by non-Islamic domestic terrorists than jihadists.”
From April 2009 to February 2015, there were 63 incidents of terrorism on American soil, and most of those were carried out by far-right extremists. Vice News reported that these incidents include attacks on abortion clinics, government agents, and the Fort Hood shooting. These attacks were committed by American “patriots,” anti-government gun nuts and ultra-religious zealots.
“We felt that the report demonstrated pretty clearly that some attention should be paid to the domestic radical right,” said Ryan Lenz, a writer at the SPLC’s Intelligence Project. “The domestic radical right has killed more people than radical Islam since 9/11 in the United States, without a doubt.”

Jon Stewart on Homeland Security Shutdown possibility - Republicans can't govern
http://www.ringoffireradio.com/2015/03/not-even-republicans-will-work-with-other-republicans/
House Republicans will oppose anything. House Republicans will oppose everything. House Republicans will even fight other Republicans. Republicans are so dysfunctional that they can’t even unite in opposition to President Obama.
Immigration reform was supposed to be the thing that every Republican was against. Barack Obama was supposed to be the president that every Republican can hate. But it seems that not even John Boehner can reign in the division his own party creates. Having defeated the Democrats and taken control of both houses, the GOP has no one else to destroy but themselves.

DHS Shutdown Looms Again: GOP Leaders Scramble To Avert Crisis
Call it a déjà vu week for Republican leaders.
They returned to Capitol Hill for the second Monday in a row staring down the possibility of a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security on Friday — and without a politically viable plan to avoid it.Honduras: A Libertarian Nightmare

Few cars have license plates, and one taxi driver told me that the private company responsible for making them went bankrupt. Instead of traffic stops, there are military check points every so often. The roads seemed more dangerous to me than the gang violence.
The greatest examples of libertarianism in action are the hundreds of men, women and children standing alongside the roads all over Honduras. The government won’t fix the roads, so these desperate entrepreneurs fill in potholes with shovels of dirt or debris. They then stand next to the filled-in pothole soliciting tips from grateful motorists. That is the wet dream of libertarian private sector innovation.
On the mainland there are two kinds of neighborhoods, slums that seem to go on forever and middle-class neighborhoods where every house is its own citadel. In San Pedro Sula, most houses are surrounded by high stone walls topped with either concertina wire or electric fence at the top. As I strolled past these castle-like fortifications, all I could think about was how great this city would be during a zombie apocalypse.
We walked through the gated walls and past a man in casual slacks with a pistol belt slung haphazardly around his waist. Welcome to an Ayn Rand’s libertarian paradise, where your extra-large pepperoni pizza must also have an armed guard.Part of the reason this discredited, libertarian bullshit still carries any weight for Americans is because so few of us travel. Only 30 percent of Americans have passports, and if Americans do go places, it’s not often to Honduras. On the mainland of Honduras, we saw no more than a handful of Americans.

US thinks of Israel of an Offshore Military Base. (They have easy access to our weapons to destroy Gaza)

NOAM CHOMSKY: It was kind of interesting how the U.S. rearmed Israel. The arms—it’s true that the Pentagon sent more arms to Israel. They were actually running out of arms in this vicious assault against a totally defenseless population. The arms were taken from arms that the U.S. stores in Israel; they’re pre-positioned in Israel for eventual use by U.S. forces. That’s one part of the U.S.-Israel strategic alliance. That’s one small part of it, is that Israel is regarded as essentially an offshore military base. So we store, pre-position arms there, and some of those arms were transferred to Israeli control so that they could complete—continue the massive destruction of Gaza, which is horrific and one of many indications of the nature of the alliance.

Rich fellow says the wealthy DO NOT create jobs.
http://egbertowillies.com/2013/11/30/henry-blodget-rich-not-job-creators/
Anybody remember Henry Blodget? This is the guy whose father was a banker. Henry Blodget is the guy who got a History degree and then went to teach English in Japan. This is the guy who was a freelance journalists and proofreader for Harper’s Magazine that turned into a ‘financial guru’.
Most importantly Henry Blodget is the guy who predicted (guessed) the meteoric stock price rise of the Internet stock Amazon.com. It immediately made him a financial media star. He seemed to be a fixture on CNBC.
Henry Blodget spent a lot of time pumping up the value of stocks even as he privately expressed negative views of the companies the stocks represented. For this he was permanently barred from the securities industry. He got rich making money like many in the wealthy class who make money on money. He got rich from contributing nothing for society. He created no product. He created no service.
Henry Blodget and his ilk along with the politicians they fund have maintained laws that privileges the acquisition of wealth via money manipulation. Those that work pay up to 39%+ in taxes while Henry Blodget’s class pay less than half that. They defended that by claiming that somehow their wealth trickles down and is better for the economy.
Of course the experience of the last 30 years of this thinking has all but decimated the middle class. It turns out, the wealthy are not the job creators at all. Their wealth do not trickle down giving the rest in society access to wealth. Wealthy entrepreneur Nick Hanauer realized this and did a wonderful TED talk on it that everyone must listen to.
A few years ago I wrote the book As I See It: Class Warfare The Only Resort to Right Wing Doom. In that book I wrote,

The reality is that our capitalist system is designed in such a manner that wealth will progressively be transferred upward. There are no real mechanisms to ensure that equitable distribution is maintained consummate to actual work or productivity. As such societal gain from marginally taxing those who benefited the most from this country providing the platform for said wealth creation, should be seen as a responsibility to maintain a viable society.

Republicans paying a heavy price for Koch Money to buy elections
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/03/02/republicans-paying-making-deal-koch-devils.html
Republicans, including John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, so desperately wanted a majority in their respective Chambers that they embraced whichever fanatics the Koch brothers could fund to victory. The Republican establishment made a deal with the devil by agreeing to take every possible opposition stance against President Obama regardless how beneficial it is to the country. It is worth reiterating, that when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to the Koch brothers that if they bought control of Congress, Republicans would “go after the federal government, all of it.” That is the deal they made with the Koch brothers and John Boehner has dutifully held up his end of the bargain by inciting Koch extremists to hold Homeland Security hostage.

Boehner
has no-one to blame but himself. In fact he has taken the lead in
antagonizing the extremists to threaten homeland security. Americans
should be terrified at what Republicans will impose on the country over
the next two years because if they are willing to endanger every man,
woman, and child in America over one legal executive action, there is
little chance they will fund the government or pay the nation’s debts
which is actually exactly what the Koch brothers likely planned all
along.

Trickle Down Economics: A great letter to the editor about how it failed the US
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/03/01/1367872/-My-Letter-to-Editor-refuting-conservative-economics-printed?detail=facebook
Just like the extreme property rights doctrines of the Confederacy corrupted many Christians a century and a half ago, today, the love of self and love of mammon have again corrupted many -- and have similarly retarded the scientific and economic progress of the republic. The constant denunciation of “redistribution” by today’s property rights extremists has made it politically impossible to raise taxes to levels needed to fulfill the Constitutional mandate to promote the general welfare. We cannot even afford to maintain our roads, bridges, waterways, and airports in good working order. Modern day Confederate economics have again crippled governments at all levels.
Finally, Mr. R. declares anyone desiring “free” education or “free” health care are “thieves.” But the real thieves are those selfish rich who fund anti-tax movements but who never would have amassed great wealth in another country, such as Somalia or Ethiopia, without the protections, promotions, incentives, and economic structure provided by a strong national government. The real thieves are the Wall Street traders and hedge fund managers who buy and sell stocks and bonds within split seconds, and then insist their “capital gains” be taxed at only 15 percent. What real wealth is being created by such “high frequency trading”? What benefit to the economy? The real thieves are the employers and managers who are unwilling to pay their employees the $20 to $30 an hour actually needed to raise a family, and save for the kids’ college education and retirement. How is such thievery different than Pharaoh forcing the Israelites to make bricks without straw (Exodus 5)?

FEAR DOMINATES IN AMERICA and it is getting worse.

Fear is so pervasive that experts have made the case we live in a generalized “culture of fear,” also the name of a book by Barry Glassner which underscores the fact that we often fear the wrong things, and incredibly out of proportion to reality. Statistics show you have a much higher chance of being killed by lightning than by a terrorist.
People cannot think clearly when they are afraid. As numerous studies have shown, fear is the enemy of reason. It distorts emotions and perceptions, and often leads to poor decisions. For people who have suffered trauma, fear messages can sometimes trigger uncontrollable flight-or-fight responses with dangerous ramifications.
Yet over time, many interlocking aspects of our society have become increasingly sophisticated at communicating messages and information that produce fear responses. Advertising, political ads, news coverage and social media all send the constant message that people should be afraid—very afraid.
In addition, television and film are filled with extreme violence and millions of fictional deaths, far out of proportion to what happens in real life, as researchers have pointed out. And more recently, we have witnessed the massive militarization of local police departments with equipment, gear and attitudes that treat citizens as if they were terrorists, as recently evidenced by events in Ferguson, Missouri. Many militarized police raids have gone wrong and taken the lives of hundreds, while police violence against often unarmed people results in unnecessary deaths and injuries every day. All this, despite statistics indicating that in most parts of the country, the crime rate is actually on the decline.

The horse had to be put down.
Today, I was working on some farm property either remodeling in the house or burning tons of stuff which has been piled up over the winter.
I heard a horse screaming either in pain or anger somewhat close to the farm. A man started yelling 'Help' and we heard some serious kicking of metal at the same time. I figured the horse must be freaking out about being trailered. I yelled, 'You need help?' but there was no return yell.
Finally someone else from our farm yelled 'You need help" after he yelled for help again. He said, 'yes'
We got in two trucks and drove down the road. We stopped at the first property but it was not there. I then drove to the 2nd property down and there was a horse who was down. The horse had gotten excited when another horse was taken for a ride and he did not go. This strong and very healthy horse started running around and put its front legs on the gate and got it stuck between two gates and he could not get it out.
The horse kicked and fell down onto the ground so his one leg was stuck high up on the fence while his body was down on the ground. When I got there, the fellow had just cut the chain to open the gate to release the horse and the horse was walking around. The horse was hurt. The more the horse walked around the more pronounced the limp. In talking to people who saw the horse down and kicking with the foot stuck way up in the fence, it was painful to watch.
The man said he might have to shoot the horse. A couple of hours later, I heard a single shot.
That was a beautiful horse. That screaming the horse made was terrifying. It is not a sound I want to hear often.

ReTreating AntArctic: The reshaping of our world, For the Worst

CAPE LEGOUPIL, Antarctica (AP) - From the ground in this extreme northern part of Antarctica, spectacularly white and blinding ice seems to extend forever. What can't be seen is the battle raging underfoot to re-shape Earth.
Water is eating away at the Antarctic ice, melting it where it hits the oceans. As the ice sheets slowly thaw, water pours into the sea - 130 billion tons of ice (118 billion metric tons) per year for the past decade, according to NASA satellite calculations. That's the weight of more than 356,000 Empire State Buildings, enough ice melt to fill more than 1.3 million Olympic swimming pools. And the melting is accelerating.
In the worst case scenario, Antarctica's melt could push sea levels up 10 feet (3 meters) worldwide in a century or two, recurving heavily populated coastlines.

99 Lies of Bill O'Reilly: Why is he still on the air?
http://www.dailydot.com/politics/bill-oreilly-long-list-of-lies/?fb=dd
- O’Reilly claimed Democrats took money from Jack Abramoff, a lobbyist famously convicted in in a vast corruption scheme in 2005. Actually, only Republicans received contributions from Abramoff.
- O’Reilly claimed renewable energy was a waste of time because “God controls the climate.” He’s also said “nobody can control the climate except God, so give a little extra at mass.” That’s goes against what modern science has concluded: Human beings contribute to climate change.
- Criticizing attempts to bring diversity to Christmas, O’Reilly said Santa Claus is white based on the myth’s roots in medieval Greece. But Bill, Santa isn’t real.

Oklahoma Republican legislators are debating whether Advanced Placement courses should be taught in their state's public schools. Let's pause to absorb that, shall we? Oklahoma lawmakers do not want their state's students to be able to take classes that will allow them to earn college credit while still in high school, thanks to a far-right conspiracy theory about the College Board's latest AP U.S. History framework. One bill currently being considered would specifically ban the AP U.S. History course, while some legislators think that an anti-Common Core law passed last year may already apply to all AP courses.Headline #2—Georgia Republicans latest to propose airing of right-wing propaganda as 'history' in public schools:
