Legendary former The Daily Show contributor and The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert has not toned down his approach despite the fact that he is now the face of CBS’ The Late Show, with a broad, mainstream audience.
Colbert has been relentless in his attacks on our Bigot-in-Chief, and in a recent broadcast delivered his single sharpest takedown of President Donald Trump yet. One of Colbert’s jokes in particular has proven to be controversial.
Colbert’s monologue came as a response to how Trump harshly treated Colbert’s CBS colleague John Dickerson, telling him that he preferred to call CBS’s Face the Nation “Deface the Nation.” After being asked a question that make him uncomfortable, Trump ended up walking out of the interview with Dickerson. Said Colbert on The Late Show, “John Dickerson has way too much dignity to trade insults with the President of the United States to his face. But I sir, am no John Dickerson.” He added later, “When you insult one member of the CBS family, you insult us all. Bazinga.”
Joked Stephen, “Mr. President, I love your presidency, I call it ‘Disgrace The Nation.’ You’re not the POTUS, you’re the ‘gloat-us.’ You’re the glutton with the button. You’re a regular ‘Gorge Washington.’ You’re the ‘presi-dunce,’ but you’re turning into a real ‘prick-tator.’” He then quipped, in a joke that drew considerable scorn in conservative circles, “In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster.” Finished Colbert about Trump, “The only thing smaller than your tax returns are your hands.” Is this Colbert’s best anti-Trump monologue yet?
