The Russian spy ship patrolling the East Coast that we reported on twice this past week, here when it was first spotted near Delaware, and here when it was near CT and NYC, was just located again near a U.S. naval base in Virginia Friday, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.
The ship was located just 30 miles from Norfolk, Virginia, just outside but close to the U.S. international water territory line of 12 miles. The map below shows approximately where the ship is and has been so far. We don’t know exactly because the Coast Guard has only issued rough estimates but these spots are very close, if not exactly where the ship has been. ORANGE is the past two positions, and red is the approximate current location. At 30 miles off the coast, it has been confirmed by U.S. Officials that this is the closest the ship has ever been to our 12 mile international border.
