Over the past several months, it’s been my pleasure to write about North Carolina’s Christian Pastor John Pavlovitz, citing his piercing open letter to Hillary Clinton, his praise for President Obama, and his warning to Christian women about men right wing Trump supporters. We need more people of faith like Pavlovitz who stand unequivocally against Donald Trump.
Here is my fourth and final segment for 2016 (more to come in 2017, with hopes of of an exclusive interview). In July, Pavlovtiz wrote about 25 reasons he is against Trump and all that Trump stands for. The Raleigh pastor certainly has a way with words, and as you can see, he holds nothing back. To read all 25 reasons, visit: JohnPavlovitz.com. I’ve chosen eight below — in no particular order.
“If your politics don’t align with the above statements, you might well be tempted to label this as an unnecessarily negative post and dismiss it all as divisive. On the contrary, it’s a hopeful affirmation of what I believe and of the kind of world I’m fighting for my children to inherit. It’s also fully conducive to my faith tradition. Jesus didn’t just preach love, he also pointed his finger squarely in the face to the hateful and essentially said, ‘This is not my way!’”
- Because to legitimately claim Christianity you need to at least slightly resemble Jesus.
- Because we’re all immigrants here.
- Because Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream and this wasn’t it.
- Because religion shouldn’t be a costume you put on only when it helps.
- Because intelligent adults don’t say “The Blacks”, The Mexicans”, and “The Gays”.
- Because diversity is inherently American and exclusion is not.
- Because people who flee war, oppression, and violence should not be greeted with more of the same.
- Because peace-loving Muslims should have as much religious freedom in America as peace-loving Christians.
