Republican congresswoman Marsha Blackburn thought asking Americans their opinion about Obamacare would prove that they agree with her. She was spectacularly mistaken.
House Republicans, including Blackburn, have been desperately trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act for years, voting over 80 times to do so.
However, the plan has NEVER been popular with average Americans. If Republicans do repeal it, they would be stripping millions of Americans of healthcare and the all of the protections the provides against predatory insurance companies.
Not only would the uninsured rate skyrocket back to what it was before the Affordable Care Act went into effect, it would allow insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, deny parents the ability to keep their children on their coverage through the age of 26, and would once again give insurance companies the ability to discriminate against women by making them pay more for coverage just because of their gender.
While there are certainly small problems with Obamacare that need to be addressed, repealing the entire law would harm millions, especially in red states where many of the uninsured reside.
But Blackburn thinks Obamacare should be repealed even though her party has absolutely no plan to replace it. Ad she was so confident that American agree with her that she posted an online poll on Twitter asking them to vote on whether Obamacare should be repealed or not.
It didn’t go well.
As you can see, 84 percent of respondents voted against repeal while only 16 percent voted in favor.
This is definitely not the result Blackburn wanted to see.
But Blackburn also got ripped apart in the comments.
@MarshaBlackburn why do you hate Americans? Just curious.
@boris3324 @S3nt13ntB31ng @MarshaBlackburn GOP obstruction caused the rates to go up. Put Congress on the plan the rest of us are on .
Kicking 20+ million off insurance b/c you can't stand Obama doing what GOP couldn't do w/GOP own idea (individual mandate) @MarshaBlackburn
@MarshaBlackburn No, I don't. And I suggest SINGLE PAYER, Mrs. Ebeneezer Scrooge!
@MarshaBlackburn please don't take away my healthcare, which I pay for 100% myself, no subsidies. Stop the lies!
@buffaloon @SoulFlyTry @MarshaBlackburn I hope you can all sleep at night knowing kids will go without medical care.
@MarshaBlackburn Repealing without a simultaneous replacement is deeply irresponsible. GOP has had six years to come up with a plan.
@MarshaBlackburn Cancer survivor. Lost everything due to illness. Without OC, if I get sick again, I'll die, in debt.
Clearly, the American people disagree with the Republican effort to repeal Obamacare, especially since they don’t have a viable plan to replace it with.
