Saturday Night Live didn’t disappoint as the show pulled out all the stops for the premiere of the its 42nd season.
Although we bid a farewell to Darrell Hammond’s portrayal of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, his replacement surely seemed to be no disappointment.
According to USA Today, former cast member Tina Fey urged the Saturday Night Liveproducers to bring on former 30 Rock star, Alec Baldwin, to portray Trump until the November election.
Executive producer Lorne Michaels told USA Today:
‘She said, ‘You know who would be a great Trump is Alec!’ I talked to Alec, who was finishing a movie, he was getting ready to have a baby – it couldn’t have been worse timing. But slowly, the idea grew on me. People on the show liked it, and I thought he’d be great with Kate [McKinnon],’ who portrays Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
McKinnon, who recently transitioned to the big screen after becoming a household name for her portrayal of Hillary Clinton, entered the SNL stage in full swing, clad in a bright red pantsuit and coughing exactly like Clinton.

Baldwin rocked the signature Trump ‘do, frowning, pursed lips and all.
‘Good evening America. I’m going to be so good tonight. I’m going to be so calm and so presidential that all of you watching are going to cream your jeans.’
Before the “debate” was barely underway, Baldwin mimicked Trump almost perfectly, claiming he had already won the debate:
‘If Hillary knew how, she would have done it already. Period. End of story. I won the debate. I stayed calm. Just like I promised. And it is over.’
After Lester Holt told him the debate was 90 minutes long, Baldwin responded, saying:
‘My microphone is broken. She broke it with Obama. She and Obama stole my microphone and took it to Kenya and they broke it and now it’s broken,’ he said, referring to Clinton.
When asked about the debate was going, McKinnon responded, saying:
‘I think I’m going to be president.’
