Historians such as David McCullough, Ken Burns, Robert Caro, Ron Chernow and Vicki Lynn Ruiz – people who have spent their entire careers studying the events and individuals that helped to shape our country – have united to warn and remind Americans about just how dangerous having Trump in the White House could be for not only our country, but the rest of the world.
On the Facebook page called “Historians on Donald Trump,” historians have banded together to speak out against the presumptive Republican nominee in hopes to shift voters away from America’s most bigoted candidate. The page was created Wednesday morning and is already gaining massive support. The page’s description reads:
Historians share their point of view on why Donald Trump’s campaign is so troubling from a historical perspective.
Many of these historians, such as Pulitzer Prize winner McCullough, rarely weigh in on current political issues, but this election is an exception. McCullough, who is registered as independent, said he’s been so rattled by Trump’s rise in the GOP that he couldn’t stay silent any longer. In a video posted to the “Historians on Donald Trump” Facebook page, McCullough says:
Like so many others, I keep asking myself, how in the world can it be that the Republican Party, the party of Abraham Lincoln, is on the verge of nominating the likes of Donald Trump for president of the United States?
You can see all of McCullough’s criticism on Trump in the video
