CNN has fact-checked Republican nominee Donald Trump before, but what the network did on Wednesday morning was particularly hilarious and brutal.
Just a few weeks after CNN called Trump out – in real time – for denying his statements about Japan needing nuclear weapons, CNN’s Tom Foreman dissected Trump’s speech on Wednesday morning and exposed every lie he told. Trump had spent a good part of his speech bad-mouthing his rival, presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, by calling her crooked, untrustworthy and unworthy of being America’s next president – and Foreman was not about to let Trump’s comments slide by without being checked.
While pointing out that this speech was a bit more organized than Trump’s previous speeches because it included a teleprompter and far less ad-libbing than usual, Trump still couldn’t stop lying through his teeth. Even with a more rehearsed, scripted speech, CNN host John Berman said that Trump still “said things that were not true.”
Foreman also called Trump out, calling the GOP candidate’s claim that Clinton wanted to bring “hundreds of thousands” of Syrian refugees into America “simply false” and brought forth the facts to show just how much Trump was exaggerating. Foreman pointed out that Clinton had only mentioned bringing 65,000 refugees into the country.
