We’ve heard all about the disturbed young man, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, who opened fire on the Umpqua Community College Campus in Roseburg, Oregon this week, and more information is still coming out. Well, now, finally, a family member, the shooter’s father, Ian Mercer, is speaking out.
Just like is so often common in these situations, it seems that the elder Mr. Mercer had no idea that his son was so disturbed. It also seems that he didn’t know about the massive arsenal– 13 firearms in all– that were in Harper-Mercer’s possession prior to the shooting. Ian Mercer lamented his son’s apparent deranged mental state, saying that he “has to have some kind of issue.”
Mercer went on to wonder with regards to his son, “How on earth did he compile 13 guns?”
