Maher also took it upon himself to make fun of Republicans when they discuss Sanders and Socialism. He put together a video clip of what Republicans hear when Sanders speaks, and it not only is it hilarious, it’s pretty spot on.
When Sanders said:
“I supported President Clinton’s effort to deal with ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.”
Republicans likely heard:
“I will refocus our military on gardening and interpretive dance. We must aspire to the fighting style of the Iraqi Army: tear off your uniforms and run.”
When Sanders said:
“When I was a young man, I strongly opposed the war in Vietnam.”
From that, Republicans probably heard:
“I would have loved to fight in Vietnam, but for the other side. Not only do I hate our troops, but sometimes I lock John McCain in his office, do a Vietnamese accent and laugh.”
Maher did a number of translations that were likely exactly what Republicans hear when they listen to Sanders speak.
You see, Sanders has the audacity to want tax payer dollars to be used on actual tax payers. Wild, right? His ideas and campaign promises definitely have a long road ahead of them in the rigid U.S. political climate, but all of his ideas are for the betterment of the American people as a whole, not just to benefit the very few on top.
