NASA Global Annual Temperature record. The first 5 months of 2015 blows the top of the chart. The star shows how much 2015 will break the annual record if the temperature departures for the rest of 2015 are the same as the departure from normal for January through the end of May.
2014 was the warmest year in global climate records but 2015 is on track to be significantly warmer than 2014. The first 5 months were the warmest on record and global models are predicting a super El Niño that could be the strongest ever measured on record or by paleoclimate proxies. Australia's Bureau of Meteorology just released a stunning compilation of forecasts from a range of global models. The consensus of models forecasts that this will be a super El Niño with water temperatures in the equatorial central Pacific of greater than 4.5°F (2.5°C) above normal.
