The husband and wife’s body was found in the bed of their truck.
Maybe if they stole some cigarillos, they wouldn’t have made it out alive.
It is reported that Edward Campbell’s estranged wife was terrified of him. She claims he brutally beat her last year and since then asked for escorts to and from work, KHOU reports.
Edward Campbell, 54, and Eric Campbell, 21, allegedly killed the retired couple on New Year’s Day at their home, then set their house on fire.
The father and son then put the two corpses into a pickup truck and took off to wreak more havoc.
A few hours later after the murders, two West Virginia, officers pulled over an SUV on a highway.  According to police, the SUV had a North Carolina license plate showing it had been stolen.
During the traffic stop, a second vehicle – a truck – pulled over nearby, WJLA reports.
When the officers conducted the stop, that’s when the driver of the truck shot at them with a handgun, wounding both officers.
One officer returned fire, which wounded the suspect in the leg.
The son was captured a short time later after he fled from the scene.
Through the ordeal he sustained two black eyes.
