A giant portion of an Antarctic ice sheet appears to be on an
“unstoppable” decline, new researched released Monday showed, which
could lift sea levels faster than previously forecast.
The pullback of several glaciers, coupled with the faster-than-expected
out flows of ice, suggests that “the disappearance of ice in that sector
is unstoppable,” said University of California Irvine professor Eric
Rignot, the lead author of the new study and a glaciologist at NASA’s
Jet Propulsion Lab in California.
