According to a bill supported by Rick Perry, before a woman may have an
abortion she must endure having the ultrasound probe inserted into her
vagina, listen to the fetal heartbeat, watch the fetus on the ultrasound
machine, listen to the doctor identify the body parts, sign a document
saying that she understands all of the things presented to her, have the
form become part of her permanent medical file, and then wait 24 hours
for the abortion procedure. I have been married 29 years, had three
children, but never had an abortion. Once I had a trans-vaginal sonogram
to assist in the diagnosis of a medical problem. It was invasive,
uncomfortable and humiliating to have such a device inserted into my
body. To require such a procedure for a woman seeking an abortion is
punitive and harassing. Even if the goal was to ensure the woman knew
what the fetus looked like, an abdominal sonogram would accomplish the
same goal, without the personal embarrassment of humiliation of vaginal
penetration.
There is so much more in Texas which is meant to punish women for being women.
1. Body Cavity Searches on women is now normal by police.
