Ruth Bader Ginsburg's words put into a dissent song.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/01/ruth-bader-ginsberg-dissent-song_n_5547310.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000013&ir=Politics

We've found the song of the summer. Well, maybe.
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that certain for-profit companies are not required to provide birth control coverage for their employees if it conflicts with their religious beliefs. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, however, disagreed with the ruling, writing a 35-page dissent clearly stating her support for a woman's right to contraception coverage under her employer's health plan. The sharply-worded (and badass) reproach has earned much support -- including its own song.
Singer/songwriter, Jonathan Mann, has put a tune to Ginsberg's scathing dissent, making us bop along to the chorus: “Now the court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield.” While Mann took a few liberties where lyrics are concerned, the song is undeniably catchy.

Kansas Tax Cuts - KILLING the Kansas Economy

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/cautionary-tale-brownbacks-failed-kansas-experiment

“In truth, Kansas is a cautionary tale, not a model,” the CBPP found. “As other states recover from the recent recession and turn toward the future, Kansas’ huge tax cuts have left that state’s schools and other public services stuck in the recession, and declining further – a serious threat to the state’s long-term economic vitality. Meanwhile, promises of immediate economic improvement have utterly failed to materialize.”

Paul Krugman added that while the Kansas experiment failed, everyone involved should have known in advance that the outcome was inevitable.
There’s an important lesson here – but it’s not what you think. Yes, the Kansas debacle shows that tax cuts don’t have magical powers, but we already knew that. The real lesson from Kansas is the enduring power of bad ideas, as long as those ideas serve the interests of the right people.

700,000 jobs to be cut by Republican Non-Action.

http://www.politicususa.com/2014/07/01/obama-blasts-congressional-republicans-putting-700000-jobs-chopping-block.html

Speaking at the Georgetown Waterfront in DC, President Obama blasted Congressional Republicans for putting 700,000 jobs on the chopping block.
And no, it’s not socialism or an imperial presidency, “It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism. It’s not the imperial presidency — no laws are broken,” the President said, lightly mocking Republicans’ for their ongoing conspiracy theories about him. He continued, “We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years.”

Republican Conservative Masterbates in other people's cars. Juanita Jean speaks.

http://www.juanitajean.com/2014/07/01/fun-with-creepy-republicans-the-of-course-its-about-sex-edition/

His name is Jordan D. Haskins and he’s running Michigan’s 95th House District.  He calls himself a member of “true red-blooded American conservatism.”  Of course he does.  He also masturbates in other peoples’ cars.
On four occasions between April of 2010 and January of 2011, Haskins broke into vehicles on public and private property, disconnected the ignition wires, then started the engine. As the wires snapped and spit sparks, Haskins would masturbate to climax in a sexualized ritual he calls “cranking.”

A woman spaks against the Corporate supreme court contraceptive decision WHY WOMEN AREN'T PEOPLE!

http://jezebel.com/why-women-arent-people-but-corporations-are-1598061808?utm_campaign=socialflow_jezebel_facebook&utm_source=jezebel_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow&utm_source=Mic+Check&utm_campaign=e83573c2d4-Mic_Report_7_01_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_51f2320b33-e83573c2d4-285125109

Earlier today, five men agreed that closely held corporations with anti-birth control religious beliefs cannot be required to provide contraceptive coverage to female employees. Corporations are people, my friend. Women? Not so much.
The decision to declare women Unpeople was a narrow one; the five men agreed that corporations (people) shouldn't be able to use Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby to justify discriminating against anyone except women (lesser people-ish entities), and won't be able to use it to deny other health care besides contraception. The same religious exemption to the Affordable Care Act that applies to nonprofit organizations also applies to for-profit companies controlled by a small group of people who think birth control is black magic. This ruling applies to whore pills only. Not to blood transfusions, AIDS retrovirals, vaccines, treating infections caused by getting a SATAN RULES tattoo with an infected needle at an unsafe tattoo parlor, antibiotics purchased to fight off a nasty case of the clap caught while raw dogging a stranger in a bar bathroom. Just birth control. No matter why a woman needs it.

Churches worry about Hobby Lobby fallout. - Rachel Maddow

There are some interesting historical and societal perspectives to consider with the Hobby Lobby decision.  It looks like bad law actually.

5 best lines of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg's dissent.

http://aattp.org/here-are-the-top-5-best-lines-from-ginsburgs-dissent-on-hobby-lobby-atrocity/

4. For-profit corporations are not religious organizations: “Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community.”
3. The ruling violates separation of church and state: “The exemption sought by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga would…deny legions of women who do not hold their employers’ beliefs access to contraceptive coverage”

States with the highest numbers of gun violence

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/29/states-gun-violence_n_5541292.html?ir=Business

Suicide is the leading cause of gun-related deaths across the nation in recent years. Of the 32,351 firearm deaths in 2011, nearly 20,000 were suicides. In all but one state with the most gun-related deaths, suicide accounted for the majority of fatalities. Six states — Alaska, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Montana, Arkansas, and New Mexico — reported more than 10.0 firearm-related suicides per 100,000 residents, versus the national rate of 6.2.

10 Big Fat LIES and the liars who told them.

http://billmoyers.com/content/10-big-fat-lies-and-the-liars-who-told-them/

Investigative journalist Chuck Lewis joins Bill this week to discuss his new book, 935 Lies: The Future of Truth and the Decline of America’s Moral Integrity, that looks at the history of government officials and media pundits speaking and repeating (and repeating and repeating) untruths to shape public opinion and policy.
The title of the book refers to the number of times President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other top administration officials made false statements in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. But the book has a far greater scope, looking at how lies have shaped American policy over several decades.
Here are 10 notable whoppers that affected hundreds, thousands, and in some cases, millions of lives.

Remember that time we invaded Iraq to remove the threat of the world's most dangerous people using the world's most dangerous weapons, and it turned out that the threat wasn't there? Well, good news. The threat's there now! (audience laughter) In some measure, due to the destabilizing effect of our intervention. And you'll never guess what the people who hyped the original plan would like to do now.

A) Only kill exactly the people that the United States wanted me to kill
B) Try to kill the right people, with the caveat that I have never used an automatic weapon before
C) Kill people only after submitting them to a rigorous vetting process
D) Immediately let the weapon fall into the wrong hands

Gun Nuts are terrorizing the US. A watershed moment you missed.

Here is a truth so fundamental that it should be self-evident: When legitimately constituted state authority stands down in the face of armed threats, the very foundation of the republic is in danger. And yet that is exactly what happened at Cliven Bundy’s Nevada ranch this spring: An alleged criminal defeated the cops, because the forces of lawlessness came at them with guns — then Bureau of Land Management officials further surrendered by  removing the government markings from their vehicles to prevent violence against them.

From Cliven Bundy defeating the cops to "open carry" movement's menace, the left's timidity has spawned a nightmare.

5 States going for Scientific Illiteracy

http://www.alternet.org/education/5-states-gunning-make-their-kids-scientifically-illiterate-possible-teaching-creationist

The British government dealt a strong blow to creationists last week when they clarified and extended their laws banning creationism in the classroom to not only free schools, but to academies as well.
Academies, including free schools, are the UK’s version of the charter schools in the US, and there were concerns that, since academies are often run by religious organizations who taught and endorsed creationism in the classroom, kids who attend them were not being taught actual science.

In the US however, the battle to bring creationism and intelligent design into the classroom is alive and well. Ever since the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial in which the teaching of evolution was found to be a violation of Tennessee law, banning the teaching of human evolution in any publicly funded school.
The battle finally came to a head in 1987 when the Supreme Court heard Edwards v. Aguillard, in which Don Aguilard took the state of Louisiana to court over a law that required that creationism be taught in public schools.

Plaintiffs argue that the vaccination program at issue denies their children the constitutional right to free exercise of religion, but not only has the Supreme Court strongly suggested that religious objectors are not constitutionally exempt from vaccinations, Jacobson v. Commonw. of Mass., 197 U.S. 11, 35-39 (1905), courts in this Eastern District have resolutely found there is no such constitutional exemption.

Koch funding of Climate Deniers exposed

So Bjorn Lomborg is funded by foundations that are part of the Kochtopus empire of influence. And Lomborg is a big-time pundit who argues for inaction on climate change, who pens pieces like “The Poor Need Cheap Fossil Fuels,” and who asserts “global warming has mostly been a net benefit so far” and will be for decades.

Ice Sheets are past the point of NO RETURN!

http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg22229752.600-ice-sheets-may-have-already-passed-point-of-no-return.html#.U6tyOqiT5wk

The finding, along with data from Antarctica, suggests both of Earth's big ice sheets may have already passed a crucial tipping point, condemning them to collapse – either melting, or sliding into the ocean. That will mean sea levels rising by as much as 13 metres, leading to massive coastal flooding. So how fast will the ice collapse, and can we stop it?
