Fracking: Ill Livestock when exposed to Fracking fluids

In the midst of the domestic energy boom, livestock on farms near oil-and-gas drilling operations nationwide have been quietly falling sick and dying. While scientists have yet to isolate cause and effect, many suspect chemicals used in drilling and hydrofracking (or “fracking”) operations are poisoning animals through the air, water, or soil.
Earlier this year, Michelle Bamberger, an Ithaca, New York, veterinarian, and Robert Oswald, a professor of molecular medicine at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine, published the first and only peer-reviewed report to suggest a link between fracking and illness in food animals.

Lawrence O'Donnell calls out Bill Oreilly on racism

On MSNBC’s Last Word, Lawrence O’Donnell took a moment to speak against Bill O’Reilly’s recent comments regarding the African-American community as of late. In the segment, O’Donnell airs a clip of President Obama’s speech where he identified with Trayvon Martin, to which O’Reilly had taken in a negative light by criticizing the President. NEW MEXICO DRAINING AQUIFER to sell water to frackers

The bad news is that the terrible drought in New Mexico has led some farmers to sell their water to the oil and gas industry. The worse news is that many of them are actually pumping the water out of the aquifer to do so.
The worst news of all is that once the frackers get through tainting it with their witches’ brew of chemicals, that water often becomes unrecoverable — and then we have the possibility the used fracking water will end up contaminating even more of the groundwater.

Bear steals entire dumpster

 The restaurant had been vandalized in the past so they installed a video security system and caught a thief stealing their dumpster. The news report said they found the dumpster in the restaurant parking lot the next day. I guess the bear preferred open spaces for his meals.

No-one in Gilberton seems to have the courage to arrest members of an organization which is operated by the Chief of Police, even when their actions are clearly illegal. Every citizen who was intimidated and harassed on August 1^st, when trying to speak to the town council, should now band together and file charges against the police and council, both of which are refusing to uphold the constitutional rights of the general population.

Suicide Rates are up and so are corporate profits: Any Connection?

In a study released in May, Professors David Stuckler and Sanjay Basu of Oxford University in England found that suicide rates in both the U.S. and U.K. increase when working class wages and wealth decline.

The study calculates, for example, that there were 4,750 “excess” suicides during the recession period in the U.S., compared with suicide rates before the recession. 

Virginia’s suicide rate is now the highest it’s been in the last 13 years; Virginians are now three times more likely to die from suicide than they are from homicide.

Study: Medicare for all would save HALF a TRILLION DOLLARS in just a few years!

Upgrading the nation’s Medicare program and expanding it to cover people of all ages would yield more than a half-trillion dollars in efficiency savings in its first year of operation, enough to pay for high-quality, comprehensive health benefits for all residents of the United States at a lower cost to most individuals, families and businesses.
That’s the chief finding of a new fiscal study by Gerald Friedman, a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There would even be money left over to help pay down the national debt.

REPUBLICANS PROPOSE HUNGER GAMES with their Budget!

We are at high unemployment and record profits for corporations and the wealthiest among us.  The Republicans have not produced any bills to create jobs and they have blocked any infrastructure rebuilding WHICH WOULD CREATE JOBS.  Now, the Republicans insist that food stamps and food subsidies to people be cut dramatically.  Basically, it is a Hunger Games scenerio.  Sad, but true.

The prime target appears to be able-bodied beneficiaries under 50 years old and without dependents — a population that has grown significantly since 2008 because of the bad economy and increased state waivers of a 20-hour-a-week work requirement.
By rolling back these waivers, large savings are possible, essentially by forcing millions off the rolls if they don’t find work after three months. Unless approached with some care, the impact could be severe in areas of chronically high-unemployment, such as the Rio Grande Valley, poor urban areas and Indian reservations, for example. And the final details of the bill have not been made public.

EPA waters down fracking study

A must-read Los Angeles Times story by Neela Banerjee demonstrates that - once again - the Obama administration put the kibosh on a key Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study on hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") groundwater contamination, this time in Dimock, Pennsylvania.

Though EPA said Dimock's water wasn't contaminated by fracking in a 2012 election year desk statement, internal documents obtained by LA Times reporter Neela Banerjee show regional EPA staff members saying the exact opposite among friends.
