WE NEED ARMED GUARDS AT GUN RANGES AND GUN SHOWS!! Juanita Jean figured it out her own self!
Chris Kyle the SEAL and American Hero was shot and killed yesterday at a Shooting Range. A couple of weeks ago, 6 people were shot at Gun Shows around the US in one week.

Climate Change is affecting Alaska. 2/3/13 and it is 40 degrees and raining. No Winter?
This is crazy - 40 degrees and rain in Juneau, AK in February of 2013. In the past 3 weeks, we had 3 days of 5 to 10 degrees and a foot of snow. The rest of the time has been above freezing and rain.
I have my cross country skis loaded and will go up to the ski area to cross country when I should be able to just take off anywhere and ski at this time of year. The lakes are soft and you will break through the ice IN FEBRUARY in Alaska.
It was raining on the top of the mountain yesterday at the ski resort. It is probably the same today. The big ski area in Anchorage, Alyeska is also having rain and no snow. Anchorage is generally 10 to 15 degrees colder than we are in Juneau. This is turning out to be a crappy winter. I am still hoping that real winter comes but I am not too hopeful.

Emmonak - The Real Alaska: Native Villages
I was in the Yu'Pik Village of Emmonak for about 6 months a few years ago. I now see I am getting a number of people looking at my early blogging when I was in Emo. For my Emmonak and/or those interested in Village Teaching friends, this post is for you.
I now live and teach in Juneau, Alaska. It is a long way from Emmonak or the many villages which are scattered throughout Alaska. the life in Juneau is that of any small city in the lower 48. I have a car and can drive to a Fred Meyer or Costco and have multiple restaurants to choose should I decide to eat out. We have a few movie theaters and I can easily get alcohol at a liquor store or a bar should I want a drink. Gasoline is about 4 dollars a gallon, which is high when compared to the lower 48 but cheap when compared to the village. I had an apartment with running water, an indoor toilet (regular bathroom with a tub and shower) and a washer and dryer in my apartment. I just turned the heat up or down as needed.
I would also like to point out that the Governor and Legislature in Alaska is run primarily by White Middle Aged Men who have little to no knowledge of the villages. Even those who have been to a village, have been there for an hour or two for a meeting and look around. Living in a village in my opinion needs more time than a quick trip to the school, city hall, the medical facility and then a meeting before flying back to their comfortable bed in their 2000 square foot house.
In the village of Emmonak and many other Native Communities. Many of the elders in Emo do not speak English. They speak their native tongue on Yu'Pik. The elders often take the hides and grasses and make clothing and baskets to stay warm and store their goods. After the fish run, you will see fish on the lines to dry and cure. You will see smoke houses where fish and meats are being cured for the long, hard winter.
Houses: Many in villages live in houses and huts which are quite small. I have had a two car garage which was bigger and better insulated than over half of the houses in Emmonak. Many of those houses did not have running water and indoor toilets. Most people had to go to a community bathroom, shower, clothes washing building. I went into a house which had 10 people living in it and it was smaller than my double car garage, They had made bunk beds 3 high for people to sleep. They had no indoor toilet. They did have running water in this house. They were the nicest, sharing people you could imagine. After I had been at the school teaching for 3 months some of the Natives I worked with told me of the conditions which they lived. No running water and No indoor toilets and it was 30 below Zero at the time of her telling me.
Villages are just barely making it now: The Pebble Mine and Billion Dollar Tax Breaks are being pushed by the Governor and the White Male Legislators in Juneau now. If the water is fouled by the breaking of a 700 foot earthen dam or two at Pebble Mine, the Bristol Bay watershed will be devastated. Those who rely on subsistance to feed themselves in the villages cannot withstand the loss of Salmon or game. The cost of food is so very high to the average villager with little to no income means they will starve.
PFD: If the Governor and the Political Elite decide to give Billions to Oil Companies and then have to cut the PFD or money to schools or Head Start, the Villagers will pay a severe penalty. We had Head Start in Emo and a K-12 School, where I taught. The children are as smart as any other children I have taught. they live in a Village where there are few jobs. Even fishing and selling their fish is costly. It is much cheaper to ship fish out of Anchorage or Juneau or a Fishing Village with fishermen from the lower 48. Flying things or boating in and out of Emmonak and remote villages is very expensive. Villagers are often not given the high paying jobs in the mines and oil fields anyway. They lose the land or have it spoiled so the fish and wildlife are killed but they have little economic benefit. The White Politicians will chose what will put money in their pocket with very little thought of how the decisions impact those who have lived on this land for hundreds and thousands of years.
If you want to see the real Alaska, the Native Alaska, you see that in the villages. In the North it is frozen for 6 to 8 months and you have to withstand severe cold.
I just wanted to say hi to those interested in Village life and let you know that the real Alaska is in the villages and the life and problems are unique to villages and you cannot understand them until you have lived in a Village for at least 5 months.

Rights stated in Amendments are not Absolute! They have limits
Here is a list of rights and restrictions placed on those rights. With Free Speech, 1st Amendment, You DO NOT have the right to make an impromptu parade on a freeway. 2nd Amendment - YOU MAY NOT HAVE AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON LEGALLY or an F-16 with bombs.. Reasonable limits are set on our rights. We have to decide what those reasonable limits are: I think clips to 10 Max and no Semi-Auto Asssault Rifles that can kill more than 3 people a minute.

Today, Wayne LaPierre was actually asked hard questions on FOX. Is it too little too late is my thought. I just listened to LaPierre again and I am now thinking that Wayne LaPierres is dangerous to America. His ideas make me think our country is unsafe. Having him and the hot heads, (some of whom I have met) he insists have guns with 30 and 100 bullet magazines will not make our community safer. With the Gabby Giffords shooting, a man with a gun got to the scene and was ready to shoot the man who was holding down the shooter but was stopped just before pulling the trigger.
The world Wayne LaPierre advocates for is dangerous and deadly for my children and grandchildren. We need limits on clips and get rid of semi-automatic Assault Weapons.

Guns kill little kids!
I know of 3 kids who are dead because they played with guns that had no bullets in them only to end up dead.
This little baby saw a gun sitting on a table and touched the trigger. He is now dead. The dad only turned his back for a second. Bad guys had broke in before so Dad bought a gun as protection.
If our political leaders keep guns easily accessible with no training or background checks and big clips readily available, I would expect more little kids being killed - by accident, as well as by crazed or mad people with a gun. The easier availability of guns, the more deaths is my thought. I hope I am wrong.

The RICHEST get all the money but they insist that the Poor and Middle Class PAY MORE TAXES and get small or no raises.
This is a great 4 minute video about how we will soon be asked to cut Social Security and Medicaid while the richest folks bank accounts get fatter and fatter. Austerity budgeting has not been growing Economies ANYWHERE it has been tried.
Europe really bought into the Austerity budget craze and where they went Austerity budgeting, the economies are flat, the unemployment is high - AUSTERITY HAS FAILED ON A GLOBAL SCALE! Austerity budgeting means CUT, CUT, CUT and DO NOT STIMULATE THE ECONOMY! As more people are out of work, you cut the budget more.
Countries that stimulated the economies and DID NOT CUT, CUT, CUT are moving forward. Not as fast as people would like of course but moving forward none the same.

Geraldo Rivera used honest Gun Facts on FOX - How surprising! Real information on FOX? Rare event!
Geraldo Rivera did a great job talking about Gun Control with real information instead of just making stuff up. He had a lot of push back but Geraldo held his own. I bet this does not happen again for a long, long time on FOX, unless the big bosses look at the loss of viewership and realize they need to get some honest information to people or more people will bail from FOX.

I went up to the ski area to check out the conditions and they are terrible! It is 40 degrees and raining in Juneau, Alaska today. THIS IS ALASKA - we are supposed to have snow in the winter!!! We had 5 degrees and lots of snow falling Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday. 4 days of rain has made of mess of our snow. The roads to the ski area are clear - melted, gone. It is raining at the top of the mountain too.

Me- Choices, Today
It is raining today - yuk! This past Sunday night through Tuesday we got snow, about a foot. It was also down to 5 degrees - winter had returned after two weeks of warm and rain. Wednesday, we got more rain and now, Saturday, it is 39 degrees and raining. I woke up at 3 AM hoping to go cross country skiing, thinking it would be colder and no rain. It was raining so I went back to bed.
I am in Alaska to ski in the winter. Here I only travel 15 minutes to ski and in the lower 48 I have to drive for an hour or more. I have purchased 5 days on the ski slopes and an unlimited cross country ski pass but I have not used either yet. I might have to break down and cross country in the rain this weekend.

Juanita Jean has an invitation for Lamar to drop by her house and play video games with her. He will play the video games and she will use a real gun. They will shoot. Lamar said Video Games are the problem and not guns. Personally, I think the gun could do more damage.

Little Boy held hostage for 5 days now. Boy taken off the bus after the bus driver was killed.
A boy is snatched off a school bus after the bus driver is killed trying to protect the kids. The boy is then taken into an underground shelter and the crazy guy and the boy are still in the shelter after 5 days. This should be big news but it isn't. Sadly, we are now so accustomed to crazy people with guns that it is just a story?

The NRA and Republicans and a few Democrats have talking points whenever Gun issues and Gun Controls are being discussed. The points are short and sweet but they use faulty information and made up stories which don't even use the Assault Gun in the real story. Good Information.

GOD evidently had a bad week this past week. He was up all night and worried. From The Onion.
The Military Budget is well beyond the stated Budget. (That budget is as big as the next 13 countries military budgets.)
The stated US military budget of 525 Billion is larger than the next 13 largest countries military budgets combined. That is only part of the Military budget.
Here are a sampling of other - non budget, military costs.
So how misleading is the $525 billion figure?
For starters, the $525.4 billion does not include $88.5 billion for unbudgeted costs of wars overseas, called Overseas Contingency Operations. Add other Pentagon spending details and the projected outlays (see fiscal 2013 budget at p. 84) come to $672.9 billion, which is 28 percent more than the basic Defense budget.
But wait!—There’s more.
Each year the Director of National Intelligence releases a total budget figure for national intelligence. For fiscal 2013 it was $52.6 billion, down from $53.9 billionin fiscal 2012. National security includes the NSA, CIA, and other intelligence services. Military intelligence spending, included in the base Defense budget, was $19.2 billion. (A good place to track these budget issues is the Federation of American Scientists Intelligence Resource Program.)
Next there’s $19.2 billion for the nuclear bomb-making arm of the Energy Department. Homeland Security includes $13.2 billion for customs and border patrol and $10.5 billion for the Coast Guard.

Hysteria over the deficit has ground the economy to a halt
If you look at economies around the world. those who have gone crazy with cutting, cutting cutting or better known as austerity have economies that are stalled, at best. The Republicans are insisting on a similar approach and our economy is doing a bit better because of the early stimulus. Our economy is so slow because of our deficit hysteria.

Congressional Gun Hearing: My Daughter. I wish she could have spoken about Assault Guns.
My Daughter wrote this and I wish she could have expressed herself to the Congressional Gun Hearing a few days ago.
It is pretty amazing to me: The Pro-Gun (DO NOT TAKE MY ASSAULT WEAPON) group had 3 people and the REASONABLE CHANGE TO GUN LAWS group had 2 people. The DO NOT TAKE MY ASSAULT WEAPON just made stuff up: like the gal who gave an example of Assault Weapon usage to protect her babies, when in fact, it was a gun which would not be banned. The hearing was called because of the killings of 20 5 and 6 year olds and their teachers BUT NO SANDY HOOK PEOPLE WERE ALLOWED TO SPEAK. The Congressional Hearing is sure doing what they can to appease the NRA and Gun Nuts, seems to me. I am for banning big clips and Assault Weapons. I am for the Right of Pursuit of Happiness for all people including those killed in Sandy Hook.

Republican Goal for 2013 - THE WAR ON WOMEN CONTINUES!
The stated goal for Republicans is to make Abortion Illegal in 2013. The WAR ON WOMEN is ramping up. The 15 year old girl I taught who was raped multiple times by various men during the summer would not have been able to get her abortion had that been the law. Abortion is not something that women do lightly, but when it is warranted, it needs to be done.
In Ireland, 2 months ago, a lady's pregnancy went bad and was DENIED AN ABORTION because it a Catholic Hospital, the MOM WAS DEAD within 48 hours. That should not have happened and the mom should be alive today to raise her other child.
