We had rain yesterday and today so not much chance that I will be going out to the Glacier this weekend. It is warm too. It is about 37 degrees. This warm weather is hurting the Glacier. The warmth is why the Glacier is crumbling so very fast and we have large chunks of glacial ice in Mendenhall Lake.

I am frustrated with my computer at work. I have decided to take a break and put up pictures which I have been meaning to do for a while. These are more of Mendenhall Glacier. I have been out there about 4 or 5 times since I last put pictures up. We got a foot of new snow but it is now raining - lightly. I hope we get away from the warm and rain.

These pictures were taken before Christmas Vacation. It is now 1/6/2011 and all I can say is rain. Everything is wet. The lake is covered with water. Global Warming is real folks!!

200+ year old ice

More Mendenhall Glacier pictures. This is old ice - as old as the United States. Because of the pressure it has been under, it has a very unique color - super blue, which just kind of radiate color from inside to the outside. It is a very unique and awe inspiring color. The Glacier is crumbling because of Global Warming.

Mendenhall Glacier

Mendenhall Lake is frozen and I was able to snow shoe out to the glacier. Here are some pictures. I was able to get within 25 yards of the glacier itself. There has been significant change to the Glacier in two years. It is definitely a retreating glacier. I have a lot of pictures so more will be put up tomorrow and each day this week. (Unless I run out of time or energy.)

Eaglecrest Ski Area

Here is Eaglecrest before the lifts opened. I snowshoed up and got some pictures.

Snow is increasing on Mt Roberts.

Two Pictures are of Mt Roberts from my Apartment and 2 pictures are from Eaglecrest Ski Area. Winter is on the way. After the snow started building up, we had rain except for the top of the mountains. We are slowly moving into winter. The last couple of days, we have had no rain and temperatures right around 32 degrees so the water iced up and it is icy!

Snow, rain, ice

We had some good snow and I was all excited thinking that it would be ready for winter sports. Then it rained and washed away snow - yuk. Today, we are sitting right at 32 or 33 degrees and all the water is icing up. We had to keep all of our students inside today and off of the slippery ice. I just want snow. We have snow at the ski resort at the upper parts but the lower has snow but it is not good snow. Frustrating.

Everything is white now. We have a winter wonderland. Goodbye ice and brown.
