To Alaska: The inside passage.

The trip was relaxing and I read FDR, which helped me figure out the current mess which President Obama is facing. There are many similarities between FDR and President Obama.

During the voyage: We saw at least one hump back whale as well as a few Orca Whales.
We passed so many islands as we went through the inland passage and many of them were uninhabited.

Rain - yep. Southeast Alaska has lots of rain.

Hey, Rich. It's so good to try to catch up with you once again. I kinda lost touch there for a while. As before, though, I just really love your great photos.

I'd appreciate it if you could tell me which one of the various, different Alaskan ferries you traveled on and took the photos from here. My husband and I are talking about using the Alaska Marine Highway one day, so I've just recently begun to notice the differences in the sizes of the ferries, how many passengers they hold, etc.

I didn't realize the deck's lounge chairs were just open to the dampness and wind of the weather there, though!

Did you have the option of an inside room, or, is this one of the smaller ferries that has no rooms?

I'm really looking forward to more news from your great site as you get settled back into your Juneau life.

Best wishes to you.

Hi, Elsie,
Actually, I was under the solarium roof, so I was out of the wind. They had heat elements as well.

YOU CAN RENT A ROOM!! I just decided to sleep in the Solarium. IF YOU WANT TO GET A ROOM - BOOK EARLY or they will be gone during summer months. The ferry runs year round and is cheaper in the winter months.

Taking the ferry: You get on at either: Bellingham, WA or you can drive another 24 hours to Prince Rupert, BC. Either ferry goes to AK. You can then get off at Kechikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Juneau, Haines, etc. you can then drive to Anchorage from Haines.

They have a restaurant and a decent snack bar on the ship too.

3 nights can be a long time but I found I slept pretty well.
