Trump Tries To Do Math: Health Insurance Only Costs ‘$15 A Month’

Amateur president Donald Trump gave a doozy of an interview with The Economist today. First, we learned that he coined the phrase “priming the pump” which has been around for centuries. And now the former reality show star tells us that health insurance only costs $15 per month.
That’s it. Only 15 bucks and you’re covered for the ‘rest of your life.’
The state governments are in much better position to, you know, help people. In terms of, you know, just the size, the mere size of it. But we’re putting in $8bn and you’re going to have absolute coverage. You’re going to have absolute guaranteed coverage. You’re going to have it if you’re a person going in…don’t forget, this was not supposed to be the way insurance works.

Insurance is, you’re 20 years old, you just graduated from college, and you start paying $15 a month for the rest of your life and by the time you’re 70, and you really need it, you’re still paying the same amount and that’s really insurance.
(my bold)
Perhaps this is why Trumpcare is such a monumental disaster. Republicans must have been thinking, ‘Hey, the middle class and lower income Americans are only paying $15 for insurance so giving gazillionaires a trillion dollar tax break is the right thing to do.’
Shareblue reports:
Recent data indicates that average monthly health insurance premiums are closer to $235 dollars, which is roughly 1,566 percent higher than what Trump asserted.
And before Obamacare, I recall paying five times more than my boyfriend at the time was paying because I had/have pre-existing conditions, a thing that Republicans don’t take issue with. That’s why their town halls have been inundated with angry constituents. They, too, have never heard of these ‘$15  per month’ insurance plans which totally do not exist.
I suppose this is the part where Trump supporters explain to us what the former reality show star really meant. They do that because Donald Trump cannot communicate properly so they start guessing what their president must have meant after each utterance from his crazy mouth.
