One of the arguments that OMB Director Mick Mulvaney made for cuts in the budget released today is the question of whether the government can really ask coal miners or single mothers to pay for certain programs (i.e. the Corporation for Public Broadcasting).
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes asked Republican congressman Tom McClintock if he agrees with that. McClintock said he does because it is those families that “bear the burden” a lot of the time.
Hayes followed up by bringing up the costs of President Trump‘s weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago and asked, “Should we ask a coal miner in West Virginia to pay for the president to golf every weekend?”
McClintock said he wouldn’t criticize any president for the “security arrangements that are necessary to move them about the country.”
Hayes asked the question again and said previous presidents have not exactly had arrangements quite like this.
