John Oliver on the Justice Scalia replacement flap: Very Good Thurmond Rule

Mtch McConnel (R-KY), citing an “informal” rule, called the “Thurmond Rule,” is swearing to do the only thing that most conservatives have actually been good at for the last 7 years — obstruct needed actions in Congress because there is a scary black president. But Last Week Tonight‘s John Oliver eviscerates the hypocrite with one short video clip: McConnel himself preventing Liberals from using that same rule because it “doesn’t exist.”
Oliver said:
It seems the ‘Thurmond Rule’ is a lot like God, when things are going your way you don’t bring it up a lot. But as soon as you’re in trouble it is all that you talk about.
Once again Republicans appear to be trying desperately to prove that the GOP only relies on the rule of law when it benefits them, and they are willing to interpret every rule in a different way if they can twist it to apply to their agenda. An agenda that has been nothing more than stopping any form of progress under Barack Obama since he was elected the first time in 2008.
John Oliver pulls no punches here, and proves in less than 5 minutes that Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnel, Donald Trump (who doesn’t know any better, if we are being honest — he is behind the curve and just parrots what his poll-humping advisors tell him) and the rest of the conservatives jumping on the bandwagon to obstruct the president’s SCOTUS choice have all missed something: the Constitution.
