His frustration, only barely apparent, is understandable. Within an hour after he learned of Scalia’s death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell politicized it by saying that he has no plans on even allowing a vote till the next president is sworn in.

“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

Other Republicans in the Senate and the GOP presidential candidates were less macabre in their timing, but they also made it clear that they will not approve Obama’s candidate, no matter who it is.
