Regardless of McConnell and Grassley’s intentions, it is still a feat that they have agreed to attend the meeting at all. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said that the meeting was finally scheduled “after a number of conversations, some more awkward than others.” He continued, reminding Republicans for the millionth time that President Obama intends to do his job.
‘Ultimately, the president is going to fulfill his duty and it will be up to the Senate to decide if they’re going to fulfill theirs.’
The antics of Senate Republicans like McConnell, Grassley, and presidential-hopeful Ted Cruz have truly been a testament to the severity of the bipartisan nature of American politics. These senators, who are supposed to be leaders, have been made so delusional by their own prejudices that they seem to have lost the ability to understand simple facts and reason.
Hopefully this meeting with President Obama will be a step in the right direction. Hopefully McConnell and Grassley, as well as other Senate Republicans who oppose the President fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities, can work with instead of against the President to fill the vacancy and give the American people what they deserve: a fully-functional Supreme Court.
