Either Rubio and Cruz will kill Social Security

Got retirement savings? 63 percent of us can’t even save $500 for an emergency, and hope our social security benefits will help. That’s true, but unfortunately, Republicans have proven scarily adept at claiming government programs don’t work and then finding ways to slowly defund them until their dire predictions come true. The Motley Fool — a website for investors, not some fire-breathing liberal rag — warns that while Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders both want to shore up the system and expand Social Security benefits, Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have other plans. “Whether they are in pinpoint detail or glossed over, the Social Security proposals offered by Republicans Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, both have one thing in common: the potential to reduce lifetime benefits.” There’s one thing presidential candidates from both parties acknowledge: Something’s got to change by the year 2035, or the system will start bleeding red ink. Al Gore talks about Global Warming - video, well worth watching
http://ecowatch.com/2016/02/26/al-gore-ted-talk-climate-change/?utm_source=CR-FB&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=ClimateReality
There are now only three questions we have to answer about climate change and our future.
1. MUST we change?
Each day we spew 110 million tons of heat-trapping global warming pollution into the very thin shell of atmosphere surrounding the planet, using it as an open sewer for the gaseous waste of our industrial civilization as it is presently organized. The massive buildup of all that man-made global warming pollution is trapping as much extra heat energy every day as would be released by 400,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every 24 hours. That, in turn, is disrupting the hydrological cycle, evaporating much more water vapor from the oceans, leading to stronger storms, more extreme floods, deeper and longer droughts, among other climate related problems. Fourteen of the 15 hottest years ever measured have been in this young century. The hottest of all was last year. So YES, we must change!
2. CAN we change? And the answer, fortunately, is now YES!
We’re seeing a continuing sharp, exponential decline in the cost of renewable energy, energy efficiency, batteries and storage—and the spread of sustainable agriculture and forestry—giving nations around the world a historic opportunity to embrace a sustainable future, based on a low carbon, hyper-efficient economy. Indeed, in many parts of the world, renewable energy is already cheaper than that of fossil fuels— and in many developing regions of the world, renewable energy is leapfrogging fossil fuels altogether— the same way mobile phones leap-frogged land-line phones. And these dramatic cost reductions are continuing.
3. WILL we change?
While the answer to this question is up to all of us, the fact is that we already are beginning to change dramatically.
In December, 195 nations reached a historic agreement in Paris, which exceeded the highest end of the range of expectations. And the Paris Agreement is just the most recent example of our willingness to act. Much more change is needed, of course, but one of the binding provisions of the Paris agreement requires five-year transparent reviews of the action plans put forward by every nation, and the first will begin in less than two years, so now is the time to build the momentum for the actions needed.

International Gun Study: More Gun Laws generally means fewer gun deaths
http://www.vox.com/2016/2/29/11120184/gun-control-study-international-evidence
Santaella-Tenorio and his colleagues included the United States in their overall review, of course. They found something interesting here too: Generally speaking, there's strong consensus that restricting access to guns tends to reduce gun deaths.
One study, for example, looked at Missouri's 2007 repeal of its law requiring a permit to purchase a firearm (essentially, it had reduced background check requirements). This study found that after 2007, Missouri's homicide rate jumped by 25 percent. No other changes in law or circumstance appear to be able to explain the increase.
By contrast, laws favored by the National Rifle Association (such as concealed carry or stand your ground), when implemented, either had no effect on gun deaths or increased gun violence.
there is very good evidence — some of it from the same countries — thatreducing access to guns reduces overall suicides. Indeed, Santaella-Tenorio himself believes that despite the Canadian/Australian/Kiwi studies, limiting access to guns is very likely to reduce suicide rates overall.
"There's some other evidence that we didn't include in this review," he says, that finds attempting suicide is an impulsive decision that people regret (if they fail) and thus don't repeat. Firearms, because they're much more effective than taking pills or slashing your wrists, don't give people that option. Thus, reducing access to guns should (and empirically generally does) reduce the overall suicide rate.

WATCH: Leonardo DiCaprio Gave an Oscar Acceptance Speech That Put Republicans To Shame
·
He’s one of the most recognizable actors of his generation and he’s starred in some of the most memorable movies. Yet, he’s never won an Oscar — that is until Sunday night. Leonardo DiCaprio took in Best Actor at the 88th Annual Academy Awards Sunday night for his role in The Revenant. DiCaprio used the moment to highlight an issue that Republicans have refused to acknowledge: climate change. He said:
The Reverent was about man’s relationship with the world. 2015 was the hottest year in recorded history. Our production team needed to go to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together, and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations.

Chris Rock and his Brilliant Speech about racism at the Oscars
http://www.motherjones.com/mixed-media/2016/02/chris-rock-just-gave-brilliant-and-brave-oscar-speech-about-hollywood-racism
In his searing opening monologue for the 88th Academy Awards—what he dubbed the "White People's Choice Awards"—comedian Chris Rock relentlessly roasted Hollywood's racism, in a year criticized for only nominating white actors.
"We want opportunity," he said. "We want black actors to get the same opportunities as white actors. That's it." Watch the full clip above.
It was, in fact, a year marked by stellar performances from actors of color, including Michael B. Jordan, Abraham Attah, Idris Elba, Teyonah Parris,O'Shea Jackson, Ava DuVernay, and David Oyelowo. And Chris Rock, without pulling any punches, called the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences out on it: "If they nominated a host, I wouldn't even get this job."
He went on: "Is Hollywood racist? You damn right Hollywood’s racist," Rock said. "Hollywood is sorority racist: We like you Rhonda, but you're not a Kappa."
F-18s go through Death Valley - Great Video
http://worldwarwings.com/campers-go-crazy-when-pilots-show-off-inside-death-valley?a=mk&var=ww2-f18-deathvalley
Last year, some lucky guys were doing a cross country trip and camped out in Death Valley, California. It’s a beautiful place to visit and do some exploring, which is why these guys were there. While hiking, the cameraman actually said he was just taking some videos of the scenery and some cool rock formations, but then he got a surprise of a lifetime.
At the beginning of the video the cameraman’s reaction is beyond priceless!
While there, what they didn’t know is that Edwards Air Force base was just around the corner. Death Valley is typically used by pilots as training grounds for low level mountain flying which they would typically encounter in places like Afghanistan for example. They fly low, they fly fast and right between canyon walls making this a treat most people don’t get to experience in their lifetime.
Out of nowhere, a bunch of F/A-18 Hornets appear and buzz these guys. As you’ll hear from their reactions, they absolutely loved it and you can’t blame them. One guy screams in excitement as more and more of these jets fly by.
GOP MAY allow VOTE ON SCOTUS, after showing themselves as fools.
http://bipartisanreport.com/2016/02/28/republicans-face-reality-concede-to-president-obamas-demand-about-scotus-nominee/
Regardless of McConnell and Grassley’s intentions, it is still a feat that they have agreed to attend the meeting at all. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said that the meeting was finally scheduled “after a number of conversations, some more awkward than others.” He continued, reminding Republicans for the millionth time that President Obama intends to do his job.
‘Ultimately, the president is going to fulfill his duty and it will be up to the Senate to decide if they’re going to fulfill theirs.’
The antics of Senate Republicans like McConnell, Grassley, and presidential-hopeful Ted Cruz have truly been a testament to the severity of the bipartisan nature of American politics. These senators, who are supposed to be leaders, have been made so delusional by their own prejudices that they seem to have lost the ability to understand simple facts and reason.
Hopefully this meeting with President Obama will be a step in the right direction. Hopefully McConnell and Grassley, as well as other Senate Republicans who oppose the President fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities, can work with instead of against the President to fill the vacancy and give the American people what they deserve: a fully-functional Supreme Court.

Hillary Clinton Retweets Bernie Sanders, And For A Good Reason (IMAGE)
·
Over the course of this latest presidential campaign there has been a lot said about both sides by both sides of the Democratic primary. Both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are formidable candidates and stand heads above any Republican candidate running. Supporters on both sides are very passionate about their candidate, and for the most part, when it comes down to it, agree on what needs to be done, just differing on how to go about implementing those changes.
In another great example of both sides agreeing on something very important, Bernie Sanders tweeted out, “America’s first black president cannot and will not be succeeded by a hatemonger who refuses to condemn the KKK.” A statement that is absolutely true, and retweeting in agreement was none other than Hillary Clinton herself.

Fox News Host Trashes GOP Candidates, Says The Debate Was An Embarrassment (VIDEO)
·
The Republican Party is truly screwed if Fox News is thinking like this.
During an appearance on the O’Reilly Factor on Friday night, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace delivered a scathing analysis of the GOP Debate held on Thursday, calling it an “embarrassment for the Republican Party.”
“Let me just say first of all- big picture- I thought it was an embarrassment for the Republican party. There were a lot of shots taken, a lot of shots scored, but there was precious little vision. Almost no serious discussion of issues, you know, what are are you going to do, how are are you going to improve people’s lives? If you saw someone acting presidentially on that stage, you got better eyesight than I do.”

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin endorsing Trump - SNL - Very Good
http://americannewsx.com/politics/watch-tina-feys-sarah-palin-2-corinthians-short-bible-snl-video/
This week’s Saturday Night Live cold open saw the show bring back one of their best characters of all time, Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin caricature. After a brief introduction by Darrel Hammond’s ‘Donald Trump,’ Fey took over the stage delivering punchline after punchline. Then we have Trump giving some of his ‘sage wisdom’ in between her lines.
The combination is, of course, comedy gold.
Palin: ‘I’m here because we Americans here are struggling. So many of us are losing our jobs at the factory or our reality shows about Alaska. We’ve seen our own children targeted by the police for no reason other than they committed some crimes. We turn on the news every morning to see we’re not even on it cause we’ve been replaced by immigrants like Geraldo River-a.’Trump: She’s great. It’s like her mouth starts driving before her brain even gets in the car.
And that is just the beginning.

MSNBC going Right Wing - Melissa Harris-Perry quits and/or gets fired. Just the Latest
http://trofire.com/2016/02/28/the-new-msnbc-perry-is-fired/
When Melissa Harris-Perry made the announcement on Friday to her “Nerdland” crew that she would not be appearing on her show on Saturday or Sunday, she made it clear that she did not want to be a token figurehead, existing only to protect MSNBC corporate heads from her questioning fan-base who had been asking about her absence for weeks. Harris-Perry stood up for her strong journalistic voice, and as a result, she will no longer appear on the network. The network found other faces to fill her timeslot and Harris-Perry is in talks with lawyers to negotiate an exit deal. She still has not spoken to the henchmen on the Third Floor. But this is just business as usual at the new Comcast-controlled MSNBC. It turns out that MSNBC had previously struggled to gain the sort of audiences they wanted with their true liberal commentators and hosts, and so they decided to scrap their integrity and head in a direction that just felt “right” – far right, that is.
Yes, before Harris-Perry there was Phil Donahue who enjoyed a wildly successful show for decades before NBC’s GE connections made the suits of the third floor more than a bit uncomfortable with Donahue’s strong anti-war message. Donahue claims that his severance from the network was also spurred by the jealousy of Chris Matthews who felt threatened by his success. Donahue claimed that NBC’s network constantly controlled his content, having him bring on two conservative guests for every liberal one.
Keith Olbermann got the axe too.
In the same moment that MSNBC eliminated Ed Schultz from their lineup, they also canceled the popular Generation-X-appealing show “The Cycle” despite its leading ratings in the demographic. Hosts Krystal Ball, Abby Huntsman, and Tourewere all shown the door. “The Alex Wagner” show with host Alex Wagner was also axed.
Ted Cruz gets smacked down on FOX - video
http://www.rawstory.com/2016/02/oh-come-on-fox-host-utterly-destroys-ted-cruz-for-throwing-tantrum-about-tough-interview/
Fox News host Chris Wallace smacked down Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Sunday after the GOP hopeful suggested suggested that tough questions about dirty election tricks meant that the anchor was working for Donald Trump’s campaign.
“Your campaign has been involved in a series of incidents that people are calling dirty tricks,” Wallace noted during an interview on Fox News Sunday. “In Iowa, the Cruz campaign sent out tweets saying Ben Carson was suspending his campaign. That was false. The campaign put out fliers accusing people of voting violations, that was false. In South Carolina, a Cruz super PAC attacked Trump over the Confederate flag.”
“And your then-communications director posted a link this week accusing Rubio of disrespecting the Bible,” Wallace added. “That was false. Do you take personal responsibility — this was your campaign except for the super PAC — do you take personal responsibility for this series of incidents? And what does it say about the culture of the campaign you are running?”
The GOP's Desperate Mission to Stop Donald Trump
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/28/us/politics/donald-trump-republican-party.html?smid=fb-share
The scenario Karl Rove outlined was bleak.
Addressing a luncheon of Republican governors and donors in Washington on Feb. 19, he warned that Donald J. Trump’s increasingly likely nomination would be catastrophic, dooming the party in November. But Mr. Rove, the master strategist of George W. Bush’s campaigns, insisted it was not too late for them to stop Mr. Trump, according to three people present.
At a meeting of Republican governors the next morning, Paul R. LePage of Maine called for action. Seated at a long boardroom table at the Willard Hotel, he erupted in frustration over the state of the 2016 race, saying Mr. Trump’s nomination would deeply wound the Republican Party. Mr. LePage urged the governors to draft an open letter “to the people,” disavowing Mr. Trump and his divisive brand of politics.

We could easily write an opus just listing the shitty things Donald J. Trump has vomited out this week, hell, even in the last two days. Earlier in the week, of course, it was the priceless nugget after his victory in Nevada, “I love the poorly educated,” a saying that should be embroidered in gold thread on a throw pillow in Mar a Lago. Really one for the ages. Who says something like that? The Trumpster, that’s who. So, we’ll start with a few Trump gems and move on from there as everyone else on the rightward flank tried to keep up.
1. Trump compares Rubio to an inanimate object.
President Obama sings Ray Charles - Great!
http://winningdemocrats.com/watch-obama-sings-ray-charles-and-brings-soul-to-the-white-house-video/
On Wednesday night, after saying explicitly that he would not be singing, President Barack Obama couldn’t hold back from belting out a few notes during a Ray Charles tribute concert at the White House.
At the beginning of the event, Obama said he was not going to sing, before telling the packed crowd that it was a bitter sweet night, as it would be the last PBS In Performance concert of his administration. Then, he added:
It is fitting that we pay tribute one of the most brilliant and influential of our times: the late, great ‘Genius’ himself, Mr. Ray Charles.”
At the end of the evening though, the President was unable to restrain himself from singing any longer. When he got onstage to thank the performers at the close of the show, he was unable to resist the temptation. Caught up in the moment, Obama led the audience, and an assortment of talented musicians, in a rousing rendition of the Ray Charles favorite, What’d I Say.
A Common Sense Gun Law That protects Children - FINALLY!!
http://theimmoralminority.blogspot.com/2016/02/finally-somebody-introduces-common.html
Courtesy of CBS St. Louis:
Missouri adults who leave their guns in reach of children who end up shooting someone would face stiffer prosecution under a bill introduced by a St. Louis-area state lawmaker.
Rep. Stacey Newman wants the law changed so that if a loaded gun is unsecured and readily available in the presence of a minor, the adult can be charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Last year, Missouri led the nation for child gun tragedies, with five toddlers who shot themselves or others. Nationwide, there have been 13 children “accidentally” shot so far this year.
Conventional wisdom was always that the parents of children who kill themselves with guns have been punished enough and that making laws which punish them further are punitive.
However as we have seen the numerous deaths of young children by unsecured guns in the home has done nothing to reduce the number of gun deaths in this country.

KKK GOT their asses kicked in Anaheim. People did get stabbed
http://winningdemocrats.com/watch-these-californians-kick-the-kkks-racist-es-send-them-home-crying-to-mommy-video/
In Anaheim, the KKK decided it was a good idea to have a rally, so they could make the point that “white lives matter too,” in an ignorant and obviously racist response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
What they didn’t bank on, was dozens of counter-protesters showing up and kicking their asses up and down the block.
A melee broke out of fist fighting and other improvised weapons, that ultimately came to an end when a KKK member used a sharp flagpole as a spear to impale some of the protesters, leaving one of them in critical condition, and injuring the others. 13 people were arrested during the street fight.
Climate Change: The many signs in the far north - There are many and they are very concerning
http://www.newsminer.com/features/sundays/alaska_science_forum/the-many-signs-of-climate-change-in-the-far-north/article_be3f0724-dcfe-11e5-a8d1-cb88757431aa.html
FAIRBANKS - In anticipation of an arctic science conference happening next month in Fairbanks, an editor asked me to write a column on climate change in the North.
I told her climate stability would be the bigger story, since basswood trees used to grow in Fairbanks and redwoods once dropped their cones into the Porcupine River. Climate is always changing.
But we have gotten much better at measuring those changes. We people and our scientific instruments have now occupied the top of the globe for long enough to record what has happened during the last few decades. Long-term data sets have some punch.
I asked people smarter than me for their all-star Northern sets of data — enduring observations of emotion-free instruments set out to record what is happening. Here are a few, each related to things frozen:
Sea ice The 1979 launch of satellites that could transmit reliable pictures of Earth allowed us to look at the ice floating on the Arctic Ocean. While 36 years isn’t very long, it has been enough to show that the white toupee of ice on top of the world is thinning and shrinking. Ice that reflected sunlight like a mirror is now dark water that absorbs heat. Because sea ice has not been fusing itself to Alaska’s northern coastline as it once was, Barrow has become more like Norway. Every October there since 2001 has been much warmer than the years when sea ice formed earlier and stayed later. And the ocean sucking all that heat isn’t just showing local effects. Scientists are blaming wacky weather events all over the globe on waning northern sea ice.
Permafrost
Ground that became frozen during a colder period and has remained that way through the heat of at least two summers (sometimes thousands of summers). The earth deep beneath our feet doesn’t react to a warm summer or a snowless winter with human alarm. It calmly transitions, after years of warm or cold temperatures. It shows a trend. That’s why it was surprising to see a longtime permafrost scientist at a major conference in December saying he has changed his mind regarding the coldest permafrost in Alaska, beneath the North Slope. “Now, I can’t say that near-surface permafrost is safe (from thawing) during this century,” Vladimir Romanovsky said. “I used to say it was OK for this century.” What’s the big deal if permafrost thaws? Not only would some of the North Slope sink as much as 20 feet (and not in an orderly fashion), but the warmth would awaken soil microbes. Those hungry organisms will feast on prehistoric plant and animal remains and belch out molecules of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane.
Glaciers Alaska’s thousands of glaciers are the resting place of snows that fell yesterday and many years ago. Those ribbons of ice worm along in trenches between mountains all over Alaska. Almost all of them are shrinking fast. After a few decades of continued study, glaciologists say this: During the last 20 years or so, Alaska’s glaciers melted as much as all of Antarctica’s glaciers (Antarctica is as large as eight Alaskas). Alaska glaciers added one-third as much water to the ocean as did Greenland’s ice sheet from 2005 to 2010. This is despite Alaska’s ice having 1/20th the area of Greenland’s. UAF’s Chris Larsen and many colleagues have made these calculations by measuring glaciers each year with instruments mounted on aircraft and satellites. Alaska’s extreme weight loss is showing up as sea spray in a storm topping a levee in New Orleans.

Mass Shootings ahead of last years pace
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/mass-shootings-are-already-far-ahead-of-last-years-pace/
Mass shootings are happening at a faster pace in 2016 than last year, data show.
So far in 2016, 49 mass shootings in the United States have left 73 people dead and 178 wounded, according to data collected from a Reddit thread that chronicles gun violence through crowdsourcing news reports. The subreddit’s criteria counts a shooting if a minimum of four people are wounded by gunfire. The combined total is up by one-third compared to the same time last year.
Hesston, Kansas, witnessed the latest shooting after alleged gunman Cedric Ford shot and killed three people before entering an Excel Industries plant. There, he opened fire and wounded 14 more before law enforcement shot and killed him. According to the data, this shooting was the year’s deadliest.
While this shooting erupted in a workplace, data shows that homes, birthday parties, restaurants and strip clubs elsewhere nationwide weren’t immune to gunfire this year.
GOP Debate Disaster: Bill Maher wanted to shoot the TV
http://www.examiner.com/article/bill-maher-slams-childish-gop-debate-admits-he-wanted-to-shoot-the-tv
By the time Thursday night's Republican debate was over, it gave viewers a glimpse at who could become the next President of the United States. Following the debate's conclusion, the reaction from the media and potential voters was negative, as the candidate's childlike clashes were universally panned.
With Donald Trump's commanding lead in both national and state wide polls, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz were forced to change their debate style as they headed to Houston, Texas. Rubio attacked Trump for highering foreign workers in the past, while pointing out the current lawsuit against him in regards to "Trump University." The billionaire real estate fired back, calling Cruz a "basket case" and Rubio a "liar." This issue was discussed on the Feb 26 edition of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO.
"When exactly did America end?" Maher asked his panel, referring to the previous night's debate as a "childish display." "The idea that these people are running for president," Maher said, noting "I stopped laughing at some point and I really wanted to shoot the TV like Elvis."

TRUMP BUSINESS DEALS: Lots of negative in his business dealings. (Many suits against him)
http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-02-24/a-look-inside-trump-s-global-deals-exposes-trouble-in-many-spots
- Millions made on name but there are losses and lawsuits too
- He says his deal-making abroad is a model for when president
In Panama, his condominium owners are trying to fire him. In Canada and Turkey, his business partners want to cut him loose. In Scotland and Ireland he claims to be making millions but so far is losing money.
Donald Trump says his organization is in talks on more than 100 deals, 85 percent of them outside the U.S., and that if elected president he will bring to international relations the savvy he has demonstrated as a global deal maker.
But an examination of his operations abroad reveals that, while he has made many millions selling his name, he has chosen a number of inexperienced -- even questionable -- partners, sometimes infuriated buyers and associates and moved late into saturated markets, producing less income than advertised.
A number of naming-rights deals over the past decade have involved investors paying him multimillion-dollar sums, sometimes with a percentage of condo sales or a management fee to run hotel operations. In some places, such as the Philippines, there are strong early sales with projects due to be completed in the next few years. But others have gone far less well, descending into legal conflicts amid claims of broken promises and empty apartments.

If you missed it, the GOP debate in Houston—the last one before super Tuesday—happened live on CNN, Thursday night. The Republican Debates this election cycle have been a nonstop entertainment in the classic vaudevillian sense—bunch of guys who act like they’re drunk and make people laugh at their own expense. Yelling, putdowns, red faces, interrupting and Wolf Blitzer’s beard! Also, Ben Carson was there.
Watch a supercut of the night when you realized that the “moderate Republican” wants to start a war with North Korea.
Ted Cruz single handedly blocking aid to Poisoned Flint Residents. Scumbag

A package to provide $850 million in federal aid to address the infrastructure and health crises surrounding the lead-tainted water Flint, Michigan has hit a stumbling block on its way to a floor vote in the Senate: Ted Cruz placed a “soft hold” on the proposal so he could study it, a representative told Politico Thursday.
Republicans had agreed to fund the aid package after Senate Democrats conceded to slashing a loan program for vehicle manufacturing, a program for which Michigan’s senators had advocated.

Republicans faced off Thursday night in their tenth debate of the 2016 election.
Donald Trump found himself deflecting attacks from all sides as opponents tried to dethrone the front-runner in Houston, Texas. There was a fiery exchange with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and a verbal lashing of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, both of whom are competing to rally the rest of the party around themselves in an attempt to be the Republican nominee.
Lighter moments of the debate include Ben Carson’s comments about fruit salad.

President Obama vs GOP Congress: Supreme Court: Obama has the upper hand now

When the storyline surfaced yesterday that President Obama was considering nominating Nevada republican governor Brian Sandoval to the Supreme Court, it seemed immediately apparentto me what he was doing. Obama was floating the name of a somewhat moderate republican whom he was never going to nominate anyway, in the hope of getting republican leadership in the senate to admit that they won’t approve his nominee even if it is one of their own. Today’s that’s precisely what happened. And now Obama’s job just got much easier.
The GOP Debate last night was embarrassing

CNN Republican Presidential Debate Was An Embarrassment To The United States February 25, 2016 By Allen Clifton 15 Comments Heading into Super Tuesday on March 1st, the stakes could not have been higher going into Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate. With four states down, and Donald Trump running away with it thus far, the GOP seems to be in full panic mode to do whatever they can to try to topple the candidate who seems incapable of being defeated by pesky things like facts, truth or reality.

7 GOP Best Parts of the Debate in TX last night
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/02/best-moments-gop-debate-houston-trump-cruz-rubio
Here are the top highlights from the debate:
Rubio dumps his entire oppo file on Trump. Rubio has decided to take on the front-runner. So the first chance he got, he practically unloaded his entire binder of opposition research on Trump, starting with the issue of immigration.
Cruz: Donald funded the Gang of Eight. Attempting to paint himself as the most hardline candidate on immigration, Cruz accused Trump of funding the Gang of Eight—the eight senators who crafted the failed comprehensive immigration reform bill in 2013.
Trump's wall just got 10 feet higher…again. Trump was asked about the feasibility of his plan to build a wall along the southern border and force Mexico to pay for it, given former Mexican President Vicente Fox's recent comments that "I'm not going to pay for that f-ing wall." The real estate mogul responded—as he has in the past when current and former Mexican officials have scoffed at his proposal—by saying, "The wall just got 10 feet taller."
Trump defends Planned Parenthood. You heard that right. First Trump goes after John McCain, then Megyn Kelly. He blamed 9/11 on George W. Bush, and now he's defending Planned Parenthood. While Trump went along with the rest of the Republicans in saying that he would defund the group because he is pro-life, he defended the work they do providing reproductive care and cancer screenings. His position may not make a lot of sense, but like much of what he says, it's not often you hear it on a GOP debate stage.
Rubio-bot tries to nail Trump for repeating himself. After Trump made several similar comments about health care, Rubio tried to go after him with thesame line of attack that Chris Christie had used so effectively against Rubio earlier this month. "Now he's repeating himself," Rubio exclaimed.
"No, no, no," Trump responded. The two then hurled insults at each other while the moderators tried to stop the argument.
Trump: "I want to release my tax returns, but…" A day after Mitt Romney went on Fox News to suggest there might be a "bombshell" in Trump's tax returns, Trump declared Thursday that he would love to release his returns but…there's a hiccup. Trump explained he has for years been audited by the IRS, which he claimed prevents him from releasing four or five years' worth of returns.

How Student Debt hurts school performance and the US Economy!
http://www.alternet.org/education/how-student-debt-hurts-everything-school-performance-us-economy?akid=14008.294211.I7hiL6&rd=1&src=newsletter1051277&t=22
This is why I want to talk about how student debt levels today are not only hurting students and recent graduates, but are hurting our businesses—and our country.
Success starts with failure
Is the world too complex for people to predict global events?
Philip Tetlock asked this question in his 2005 bookExpert Political Judgment. Tetlock looked at expert opinions from 1984 to 2003 and quantified how well their forecasts turned out compared to amateurs. Three hundred experts submitted more than 28,000 specific, quantifiable predictions about the future. Tetlock then followed the predictions to see if they came true.
Tetlock came to some startling conclusions. First, experts performed better than random chance—but only marginally better. And second, what mattered more was not what they thought, but how they thought.
The problem is not the experts. It is the complexity of the world we live in.
Paul Ormerod, a British economist, compared the extinction model of dinosaurs to that of businesses. He found that, although the timelines were different, extinction patterns were similar. He also found that when he modeled corporations as successful planners, he wasn’t able to duplicate what happened to businesses in real life. Patterns of extinction were completely different in models that viewed corporations as successful planners.
What Ormerod’s models imply is that there is little correlation between a firm’s amount of planning and its success. What both Tetlock’s and Ormerod’s results suggest is that in these situations where the future is largely unknown, trial and error—and the ability to learn from experience—is essential.
