Over the past weekend, I had no propane to cook or heat water. I did not have a microwave either.
I ate out of cans. I am so very thankful for Rick the maintenance man for loaning me a can opener. I have a P-38 (army can opener) in all vehicles and in camping gear but I did not bring one to Pt Hope.
My toilet worked fine when I arrived. There is a vacuum that sucks the crap out of the toilet. Saturday the flushing sound stopped. My toilet backed up. I got a plunger at school and plunged a lot. It did not work. I took a shower and it caused the toilet to get high. I got a bucket and took the water outside. I then did a load of wash and when it hit the drain cycle I thought' "Oh Crap". Sure enough - toilet overflow and my bathtub was filled with yuk as well.
I took water outside from the toilet again.
I got a mop and bucket from school and was walking home. I local with a 4 wheeler stopped and offered me a ride. So me with bucket and mop hopped on. He took me to my house and dropped me off and said, 'Welcome to Pt Hope.' What a great gesture.
I mopped up the mess as I was swearing a lot.
My neighbor teacher saw me at school and I told her of my messes and she said I could use her bathroom to shower. I told her I was feeling gross after cleaning shit. I went over, took my shower and then we went out to get something to eat at the restaurant. (Hamburger and fries is $13.00)
I reported the mess to maintenance and the Principal. They made a call to the city water department. All buildings are owned by the native corporation and the water, sewage and electrical are all part of the city maintenance bureau.
So, Monday morning - I was told they filled my Propane Tank - hooray. They said they hoped the Water Department did my Sewer.
I got home and the sewer was done. I cleaned the toilet, the bathtub (swearing all the while) and the floor. I still have the cleaning supplies from school until this weekend. Just to be safe.
I ate spaghetti which I cooked in the broiler pan. (The only pan I have.) I am having more sent from home.
I will write about the 2000 year old Pt Hope Village later.
