We all know rich people love Republicans. And who can blame them? The GOP isn’t shy about where its priorities lie, and helping people who already have a lot of money keep more of their money is right at the top of the list.
Come campaign time, those priorities are well-rewarded. Since Citizens United created a scheme that allows unlimited donations to laughably fire-walled Super PACs, the rewards have been extraordinary. Every presidential campaign cycle sets new records, but the dollars raised this time around are genuinely mind-blowing.
According to an analysis from the Washington Post, about 80 percent of the money going to Republican campaigns isn’t going to the campaigns at all. It’s going to the Super PACs associated with campaigns, and it’s coming in huge chunks.
For Jeb Bush, the imbalance is even greater: he’s raised $11 million for his campaign, and a whopping $108 million into his Super PAC.
On the other side, Democrats flip the ratio; only 20 percent of their dollars raised are from Super PACs.
