Meet Kai Kloepfer. This 18-year-old is on a quest, the quest for the
safest handgun in the world. On the second installment of Uproxx’s Webby
nominated series Luminaries, he outlines a solution which could make handguns a heck of a lot safer.
On a budget of $3,000, Kai developed and prototyped a smartgun fingerprint scanner able to store up to 999 users as authorized to use the firearm. He developed this in part with a grant from the Intel Corporation.
He gave a TED Talk late last year discussing the use of biometric
systems for gun safety, giving a demonstration of the technology
involved.
