The horse had to be put down.

Today, I was working on some farm property either remodeling in the house or burning tons of stuff which has been piled up over the winter.

I heard a horse screaming either in pain or anger somewhat close to the farm.  A man started yelling 'Help' and we heard some serious kicking of metal at the same time.  I figured the horse must be freaking out about being trailered.  I yelled, 'You need help?' but there was no return yell.

Finally someone else from our farm yelled 'You need help" after he yelled for help again.  He said, 'yes'

We got in two trucks and drove down the road.  We stopped at the first property but it was not there.  I then drove to the 2nd property down and there was a horse who was down.  The horse had gotten excited when another horse was taken for a ride and he did not go.  This strong and very healthy horse started running around and put its front legs on the gate and got it stuck between two gates and he could not get it out.

The horse kicked and fell down onto the ground so his one leg was stuck high up on the fence while his body was down on the ground.  When I got there, the fellow had just cut the chain to open the gate to release the horse and the horse was walking around.  The horse was hurt.  The more the horse walked around the more pronounced the limp.  In talking to people who saw the horse down and kicking with the foot stuck way up in the fence, it was painful to watch.

The man said he might have to shoot the horse.  A couple of hours later, I heard a single shot.

That was a beautiful horse.  That screaming the horse made was terrifying.  It is not a sound I want to hear often.
