For months now, Donald Trump has made some of the most terrible and un-American statements heard from a presidential candidate since George Wallace and the era of the Civil Rights Movement.

Trump has given new life and form to the idea of the Southern strategy, by reshaping it in the era of the “war on terror” in a post-9/11 world.

There is a saying that goes “Not all Republicans are racists, but all racists are probably Republicans.” In the case of Trump, there is really nothing that could be more accurate.

According to a recent Washington Post-ABC poll, nearly half of Republican voters favor deporting all undocumented immigrants and barring all Syrian refugees from entering the United States. This fact helps explain Trump’s inability to be negatively affected by the absolutely disgusting bile that he spews out on a daily basis to anyone with a microphone.

First Trump went after Hispanic people by calling South American immigrants rapists and criminals. Then he turned on Syrian refugees, calling them terrorists and saying he would ban them from entering the country. Both times he was rewarded with stronger support. Trump took it up a notch again, by saying all Muslims should be tracked by the government and forced to carry special identification. His last and most incendiary remarks as of now rest with a call for an outright ban on any Muslim entering the U.S.
