There are actually like 4 glaciers around Juneau. This one is easy to get to though. It is receding at a fast rate. During the winter, the water freezes and a person can cross coutry ski up to the glacier. I am looking forward to that,
Here is the Mendenhall glacier. It is about 10 miles from downtown Juneau. It is a retreating Glacier. It has been retreating for at least 100 years. The rate of retreat is increasing in recent years.
Yes, they crap where ever they want to crap. I went for a hike today and on the trail I saw lots of bear poop. I did not see any bears though - just the poop.
The town you see is Douglas. You have to cross a bridge to get to it. I will be living over there next week. Instead of seagulls on light polls by the highway, we have eagles. Those are big birds to have sitting where seagulls are suppose to sit.
A fellow lives in this houseboat. When the tide is in, it floats on the water. When the tide is out, the house rests on the bank. See how the house is slanted.
It is raining today. They say we had Juneau weather today.
There is an Eagle on the post, do you see it. The Eagle was chirping at me as I was taking pictures of him. He just stayed on the stump and would not move. That is an old hull of a boat also.
I traveled, in my new, old truck, to the end of the road. 20 miles down the road the sign said Road Ends. This cove is at the end of the road. 70 degrees today. I was talking to one local and he said it was too warm, it made him feel like taking his coat off,
There are 3 or 4 cruise ships daily that drop in Juneau. About 5 or 6 blocks have little Alaska shops and the people are all over the place. Typical temperature here is 62 at 2:30 in the afternoon. I like it so far.
Lots of people are telling me that the sun is not normal. They say, "Get out and enjoy it, because we have had steady rain." It is supposed to rain more than Seattle or Portland. I have had 2 sunny days though. We even reached 70 degrees.
Here is my new (old) truck. It is a 99 Chevy 2500, V8. The longest drive you can do is 60 miles so I figure I will not put on tons of miles. Gas in $4.60 gallon.
These are 4 Blue Angels taking off at one time! The noise was amazing. It made my hair stand up on my arm! This was at Boeing Field during SeaFair. Behind them are 2 more jets that took off right after them.
